The brief:
Lars did absolutely A+ tree work for me in a very tricky tree-falling environment -- climbing and piecing down large, standing dead ohi'a (from ROD) in the midst of my home and beloved gardenscape. Timely, hard-working, friendly, communicative, expert at his craft, and reasonably priced to boot. Where have you been all my life, Lars? :P
Extended testimony:
I'm an experienced tree faller and I've worked with several climbers and many sawyers over the years, both hired on other people's land as a client on my own land in Puna since the Ohi'a Death began killing my forest in 2014. I do much the work on my land myself, and usually hire out only when I need chipping or climbing and I can afford it. I know good tree work when I see it, which is not as often as I'd like. Lars pieced down a range of tricky dead trees, in very tight quarters around my house and in the midst of my dense gardens, which are everywhere, having planted them under the forest canopy when the canopy was still alive. I have been putting off the worst of this work for fear of the destruction I thought it would cause, and my limited budget, but miraculously, we barely damaged any of my plants...
Besides excellent and efficient tree work, Lars returned my phone calls and texts promptly, confirmed our scheduled work day 2 days in advance, showed up early, was very easy to communicate with about exactly what I wanted done, safe to work with when assisting him, and enjoyed what he was doing. A very rare experience in Puna, or anywhere, really :P And all of this for a very reasonable daily rate, for a very productive day. Always more tree work to do, though, in my sick Ohi'a forest -- but knowing that I've found a go-to climber makes it all seem much more manageable... Thanks! read more
