He had grabbed new items still in plastic to replicate the items that I had taken from the shelf which I found so considerate. Definitely stop in if you are in the area! We actually went in because my husband was curious. I almost didn't go in but I am so glad I did! Across the Way has lots of unique gifty items. I left with some cool things like a zipper pouch with a gnome on it, a tin that looks like a legit 1980s mixed tape and a Calico cat notepad. I also had fun looking at socks, books, cards, jewelry, candles and such. A lot of gift stores carry the same brands but I can tell that Across the Way has worked hard to differentiate their merchandise. Great stuff!

Unfortunately, I had to take a plane to come here, so buying anything larger was off the table-- I do so wish they had an online store!-- but the small items I bought were both adorable and incredibly well priced. On top of that, I was greeted as soon as I entered, and the easygoing conversation I shared with the cashier while checking out brought the entire shopping experience to a perfect end. Equally unique as the almost black sided exterior is the warm and rich wood tones of the interior. A lot of stores on the pedestrian-friendly Washington Street Mall blur together in my head but this shop was very memorable. Aside from the fabulous exterior and interior, I really liked the staff! They were welcoming and friendly, very laid back and conversational but not over-bearing or pushy. That is totally the way to do it. Kinda like you're just having conversation at a cocktail party. A lot of the merchandise sold at Quirk & Co is made by local artisans and other merchandise is proudly made in the USA. They have an awesome collection of candles, jewelry, scarves, tote bags, mugs, pillows and such. I also think I saw some cool vintage painted furniture. It feels like it goes on forever from one unique vendor to the next. Jewelry, records, furniture, pieces of history - you name it!
