It's on East 12th and Walnut (see what they did there?) and it's about 20 or so food trucks. It runs from 11:30-1:30 so make sure you gauge your time right! Everything from Taco trucks to pizza mobiles to desserts. It really is a free for all and you can probably find just about any type of food you might be craving. The lines aren't as long as I would expect, and 90% of the trucks take credit cards which is a huge plus! Get there early because parking is just like anywhere else in downtown Cleveland IMPOSSIBLE! I'm not sure if they operate rain or shine but I sure hope so cause I would get soaked to have these food options again. My only little minor gripe is that I wish there was more tables available, that's more so on the city of Cleveland and not the food truck owners but I thought I should put it out there that there is very limited seating if you plan on soaking up some sun I went with the good ole fired up taco truck and I wasn't disappointed. Three tacos for $10, can't beat that. I wanted to try the donut truck as well but their line was too much for me, I will definitely be back though it's definitely a lot to soak up in one trip!

I arrived with 2 friends after leaving church. We arrived just before 1:30pm. They had some activities for kids such as a jumping castle. FOOD -- There was one big food line. There were starters (such as grape leaves, fatayer which is a spinach pie, grape leaves, kibbie - seasoned ground beef in a ball like shape, hummus, etc) and there were pita sandwiches (such as chicken tawook and beef shawarma). I had the Kibbie ($10) and then I tried the beef and chicken pita sandwiches that my friends had got. I enjoyed the kibbie alot because I've had it before so I knew what to expect. It's very flavourful. It has seasoned ground beef, bulgur, onions, and pine nuts in it. The pita sandwiches were tasty too. The food tasted authentic enough. I don't like onions but the onions inside the Kibbie were finely chopped so I could barely taste it. My friend Rachel commented that she would rate the festival 3/5 and her friend commented that she would rate it 4/5. Rachel said the food didn't taste authentic enough (the chicken pita sandwich that she had plus she mentioned that the sandwich wasn't worth $12). They also had a dessert table where bakalava was sold but I decided not to buy any dessert. Music is played most of the time under the picnic grove. Overall, this was a fun and family friendly festival. I'll be back next year. I felt safe and it was nice to see the community participating. The second event was a fall festival where there was a petting zoo, some vendors, food, candle making, etc. We had a lot of fun and it was really neat to be able to go inside the buildings. It's taken care of very well and I'm glad it's a part of our community.

I liked the drum that lit the tree up, it reminded me of the tree Ewa on the movie Avatar. You get exercise and steps in while observing wonderful art. It's a win-win. Tip: park close to the exit so you don't wait forever to leave when the festival ends.

St. Mary's Romanian Festival is Fri-Sun in the middle of August and has been happening for the past 13 years. They have food, beer, wine, one of those bouncy house playgrounds, tours of the church, and live entertainment (music, dancing kids, etc). Also tons of people walking around dressed in authentic Romanian attire. I recommend going when they first open as parking can fill up fast and treats disappear just as fast. The wine garden is in a closed off area so it's nice and chill with no kids around. For desserts you can find things like large cream puffs, torts, rum balls, fruit and nut bars. Food wise they have stuffed cabbage, chicken stew, sausages & kraut, roasted pork and mamaliga this cheesy polenta stuff. There are also special stations for crepes, elephant ears, and mititei this grilled ground meat you top with onions and mustard. You can also purchase some Romanian souvenirs like religious looking pictures and knick knacks, clothing, and jewelry. I'm not really one for crowds and the heat so I was only there about an hour and took food to-go, but it was nice to explore, learn a little bit about others, and support local. Add them to your list of summer festivals to check out!

Our ethnic churches and organizations divide the summer into weekend trips that bring us the food, the dance, the music, and the culture of each of our sister nations. Perhaps St. Mary's festival best represents the many others. There are no Ferris wheels or cotton candy. Those things are for the WASPS. Here the music and dances tell folk stories from various regions of Romania. Unlike the Lord of the Dance where a mishmash of steps are performed to wow an audience these dances portray tales of love or bravery or struggle. In the church hall lines form to buy baked goods that are not seen in such variety or prices in any bakery in Paris, New York or Miami. Everyone knows no professional baker can compete with a bunch of grandmothers. Lines also form to buy the cheese rich polenta, cabbage rolls, sausages, chicken and dumplings. The food is similar to the offerings at the other nationality festivals yet different enuff that one can identify each nation's special touches. Going to as many of these festivals as I can but always St. Mary's does what is intended. At each my eyes well with tears and I think I am so glad I grew up an eastern European in Cleveland, Ohio. It does not matter to us that western Europeans see us as Eurotrash or that Cleveland is made fun of by those living on either coast.. We are going to keep on dancing to our own music.
