Tremont is decent for the price. There is a lot of space in the apartment and it's mostly updated but my place has quite a few problems. There was a leak in the light in the kitchen within the first two weeks moving in and it pours water all over our floor every time the people above us shower and it also caused the light to break. Our sink in the kitchen only works on one side since the pipe is not connected, the ceiling in our bathroom is falling in, our mirror is cracked in the bathroom, our front door didn't lock when we first moved in, our blinds were broken and couch was scratched, and there are bubbles of water under the paint in our walls. We reported these issues to maintenance but they only fixed the blinds. We like it here but we have some issues maintenance wise. Really hoping we won't be charged for damage since they are not our fault. read more

We've had an extremely disappointing experience at Tremont. The apartment was dirty and visibly worn when we moved in--filthy floors, dusty vents, and an overall lack of care in maintenance. But what's truly unacceptable is how we were fined $250 each (a total of $500) because a friend visiting for just a few hours brought their dog. This dog didn't belong to either roommate, wasn't staying in the unit, and left the same day. The lease clearly states that for an unauthorized animal, the first step is a written warning, and only if the pet is not removed would a fine apply. We never received any warning--they went straight to charging both roommates, even though only one had the guest. No transparency, no fairness, and absolutely no accountability. If you're considering living here, be prepared to be charged for things that go against their own written policies. read more

The apartment flooded in the winter because the washing machine leaked. The carpet was not changed nor did anyone check for mold. Add this to the list. Update 8/27/21: regarding the overflowing toilet. My daughter did put in a maintenance request and nobody showed up. That's why I updated my comment. Have you ever had a toxic relationship? Living at Tremont is pretty much the same experience. The pictures look great, the apartment tour soothes all those fears, hey they even give you a snack and goodies. That's phase 1 remember? All the gifts and compliments make you feel sooo good and the reviews make them look phenomenal, I should know after all I rented here after reading the reviews. You may have heard words like these before, promises that the apartment will be clean and charges will not be made against the tenants for things that were there before move-in. If you've never been attempted to be gaslighted or manipulated then I'd say trusting Tremont would be a good place to start. I won't go into the gory details of my apartment, but we had more things alive in our apartment than those who paid rent. My room in particular had smoke stains all over the walls and furniture, my asthma went from mild to severe in 2 months of living there. Maintenance wasn't unreliable, but it did take several of the same requests to be made on top of labeling the requests as 'emergency' for anything to be taken seriously by Tremont. So imagine waiting for something like mold everywhere in your apartment to be taken care of and you see Tremont posting about a taco station in the office and people posting reviews about how Tremont cares sooo much about them. Honestly, I wouldn't have made a review at all, but the final straw was being slapped with a nearly $1k in damages and then proceeding to be ignored for almost 3 weeks. Tremont claims that we have multiple damages to the apartments, tons of trash left behind, and clean so much of the apartment because of how it was left. You can see for yourself in the photos I have attached all the damages. Words of advice? Take a really good look at your apartment when you move in, and document everything (pictures, video, etc.). From experience though, they could still charge you up to one month's rent as damages, my friends and I have roughly $1k in damages. Pretty rough for a place with such good reviews right? Take all those reviews with a grain of salt. As someone who also took part in them pretty much all the positive reviews had an incentivized motive. (giveaways, prizes, etc.). My son arrived on move in day and because 2 of his roommates had lived there the previous school year they did not clean the apartment. The common areas and two uninhabited bedrooms and their shared bath were absolutely disgusting. After pressure from us, they finally cleaned it, but be aware if your student is moving in to an occupied unit. The first time they ran the dishwasher it clogged because there was so much food debris in it. Took maintenance 2 weeks to fix meanwhile the unit smelled awful- musty and mildest. My son fell and broke a window, they charged him over $1700! $1000 for the window (which they had to custom order and it took two weeks), $400 for installation, taxes fees and a fee for a lease violation. Tell me how a place with 100's of units has custom windows? Oh, and once again, took them 2 weeks to repair. Just skip this place and live somewhere else! read more

I love it here! It is super convenient to campus if you have a car or a bike. To get downtown, it's only a ten minute drive. Affordable and very spacious! Its also really nice to have in unit laundry. My only complaint is that weve had a couple of maintenance issues and sometimes it takes a while to get fixed. read more

the worst place possible to live. our water tank blew, our whole apartment was flooded and they barely did anything. they aren't cutting our rent and still charging us for our electricity bill when it wasn't our fault the water tank blew. our bill is so high because we have all these fans running 24/7. after labor day weekend we came back to see that they took all the baseboards out and there is black mold everywhere. they told us they can't do anything and that we need to live in it because they can't do anything. we are living in black mold and also with our apartment being 90 degrees. this is ridiculous and unsafe for me and my roommates. they are awful people and will charge you for extra stuff and never fix anything. dont live here. read more

YOU CAN FIND BETTER FOR CHEAPER. I've lived at Lion's Crossing for close to 2 years now, and i can honestly say i only enjoyed the first 2 months. My lease ends in July, but i'm quiting my job and leaving town in May specifically because i can no longer tollerate living here. Its very difficult resisting the urge to rant so i will keep myself to clipped, factual sentances. My rent is over 500 a month. Its nice having individual leasing, but not worth the hassle of living here. Apartment itself was disturbingly filthier than the model. Jaquzzi is NOT open year round. Never has been dispite advertisement. Pool only opens in late june. Gym doesnt have as much equiptment as i wish. Apartment walls are dramatically thin. Management staff positions have a high rate of turn around. Dont expect your problems to be fixed. Maintenance is timely on repairs, but theres a LOT of repairs. Usually the same issue repeated. Our plumbing gets clogged often. Most staff is very friendly, but are all inexperienced college kids. Management will try to upcharge you for damaged furnishings. Bus route is the most difficult in town. Between the hours of 8-11, expect to be crammed in like Sardines. Walmart and other shops are within 20 min. walking distance. I signed on the lease to be roomed with strangers and was paired up with a psychopath. Screaming (and i mean full throated screaming!) at late night hours, rancid cleanliness habits, direct threats to me and others, compulsive theft, loud music, substance abuse, and goes into fits of rage for seemingly no reason. He has droven two different roomates from the apartment with his extreme actions. I and other roomates have kept apartment management informed throughout this conflict and have recieved little to no concern, even when they are being called in repeatedly for repairs and loosing money through it. At one time the head manager, one other roomate, and I all had a conference call with a crisis help agency during which our problem roomate was described as having an "abusive personality and terroristic methods." by the consultant. If you do decide to rent here, keep a strong back bone and document EVERYTHING. read more

The living space is very nice for student living, but the toilets need to be updated because they break and overflow too often. Every now and then maintenance decided to block some vehicles from pulling out with there equipment or test the hoses and leave an icy walkway from your apartment. Overall the place is good stay. read more

I would honestly give 0 stars if possible since that's what they deserve. This place is an awful place to live with horrible and uncooperative staff. First the place is gross it was not cleaned at all any dirt they paint over. I was repeatedly sick and I'm pretty sure it's because of how dirty it is. You can tell they don't care about their tenets or their well being at all. But living here only got worse as they year went on. I had horrible roommates who were awful to me and tried to move and they wouldn't let me unless I relet my unit and then found one. Even though they let other people do the same thing. Then summer comes, they're doing renovations on the kitchen and bathroom. They told me they would start these renovations. I am moving out on July 31 they started remodeling the apartments two weeks before I moved out to get it ready for the next tenants. When they have like 20 days in between the next lease.They are so greedy they want to get the place ready for new tenants to move in when and didn't care about the current tenants. I've been paying rent for the past year. They told me one day before at 5 pm on last Tuesday they are coming tomorrow to work on the kitchen and Thursday if needed . I was away so couldn't move my stuff. I got back to my apartment on Saturday night and my apartment looks like a tornado. Pictures attached below. They said they would put my stuff back to the best of their ability. Instead I am left without my microwave hooked up, drywall is still all over my stove, all my stuff thrown everywhere and they still refuse to put it back. Finally on Tuesday they come and put back my microwave and claim to clean the stove which they did not. I asked them repeatedly and that's the only reason they came to fix my microwave. I asked them to stop doing renovations until I move out July 31st and they refuse. They then are going to start doing renovations on my bathroom and I can't use my roommates bathroom because they're insane. So I will be stuck without a bathroom while they work on it. I am still paying for my apartment and deserve to be treated with respect and allowed the services I paid for, but Tremont has made that nearly impossible. I recommend you DO NOT live here. For starters we moved into our apartment, which was just renovated or so it looks but we've ran into multiple issues. The first being that the apartment below complained of leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom which lead to two holes being cut in our wall which maintenance then left a note "We will be back to fix this after the Holiday weekend-Mgmnt", well it's been a month since then and we still have tape just covering it. Next we move to the microwave which has to big of a plate that doesn't even fit the microwave so it's split, no response and that was put in two weeks ago. My sisters room light went out and was given a light bulb by the office but also told it probably wasn't even the right one and told her to change it herself with no knowledge of how to even get through the light cover to even change it. I'm not too sure what the problem is or if maintenance is backed up but it would nice to made aware rather than cancelling a second request that was put in because they couldn't even respond to the first. Son received letter of outstanding charges on a Saturday, August 26 from Tremont Student Living at Penn State in State College, PA. Charges were described as Move-out-damages-cleaning. After discussing, we agreed these charges were excessive and unfounded and he filed a dispute per the contract within the 30days, still on September 25. Son said was told dispute was not on time and now his account was sent to collections, impacting his credit. I called Tremont myself and was told although his email came in on the 30th day, it was in the evening and so technically "it was after hours on a business day." Are you kidding me? they sent the letter on a Saturday - nonbusiness day, but are ruining your kid's credit on a technicality that they responded after business hours the last day ?? She said there was nothing further to discuss or that they would do saying "it is his fault and kids are not innocent." This company's poor reviews don't do it justice. Tremont Student Living PREYS ON YOUNG, UNSUPECTING COLLEGE STUDENTS, OVERCHARGING THEM AND WORSE - NEGATIVELY IMPACTING THEIR CREDIT!! Don't do it to your kids, find reputable living alternatives for your kids or at least guide them to find more reputable companies to do business with. I lived at Tremont for two years. Do not live here. From the day I moved in, I was disappointed. It was nothing like the demo unit, and while that was somewhat to be expected since I rented a standard unit rather than deluxe, it was pretty awful. Mildew on the bathroom ceiling, paint splatters on the floor, stains on the living room carpet, and black soot-like stuff on the living room ceiling. The door to the apartment had to be locked at all times or it would blow open in the wind, and to lock the door from the outside, you had to grab the handle and pull it shut as hard as you could before the key would turn. Just generally terrible construction (I swear you could hear your neighbor sneeze through the walls). Generally, maintenance was good at coming and fixing simple things in a timely manner. They were probably one of the best things about this property, as they were friendly and quick to fix things when asked, as long as they were fairly simple tasks. HOWEVER, for a more complex problem, it won't get fixed until a new tenant is coming. In the spring, the dishwasher stopped draining, and the warm water plus food particles made for a lovely smell akin to that of something between vomit and sewage that was enough to make you gag every time you opened it. My roommates and I complained repeatedly. Maintenance came and showed us to turn the knob on the dishwasher a certain way, but even then, it only successfully drained part of the time and did nothing for the putrid smell that remained. Maintenance insisted there was nothing else they could do, ad it wasn't until my old roommates moved out and new tenants were moving in that the issue was finally fixed. I found the general business practices of this property to be scummy and predatory as well. They are happy to dish out fees whenever possible. If you plan to pay rent by credit card, there is a fee just for keeping your credit card on file, let alone the fee for using your credit card to pay. They also heavily push a program where you pay a fee to have on-time payments reported to credit bureaus to build a credit score. When the county was doing code inspections, Tremont made sure to take advantage of the opportunity by threatening to also impose personal fines if the county fined the unit. They also screwed me one more time when I moved out by hitting me with a $150 move-out fee, claiming that they had to paint the bedroom and bathroom and replace the blinds, despite the fact that I had evidence that there were no issues with these areas. In another example, one roommate had issues with others in the unit and complained to the office in retaliation. Rather than look into the issue, the office made matters worse by sending an email threatening fees. It's a better place to live if you're friends with your roommates, but if they hate you, they can leverage the leasing office against you and the leasing office will be more than happy to oblige. And certainly, don't trust Tremont to pick compatible roommates for you--it can quickly become a small slice of hell. Finally, don't fall for their scare tactics when it comes to signing/renewing a lease. In the weeks leading up to the end of the official renewal period, the office ramped up their campaign and insinuated that rent would increase, so on the last possible day of the renewal period, I signed a lease. The next day, they announced that leases could be signed for $200 less/month than I had just signed for. Tremont in general is very aggressive about their leasing campaign and will always say that they're running out of space and you need to sign your lease because xyz. Don't let them pressure you--nobody wants to live here that badly. They weren't 100% sold out this year until July 19th, yet they had been saying that they were 'almost sold out' for months. read more

Tremont is an ok place to live. However even with the management changes they are still incredibly unorganized. If you just keep contacting them, they finally get annoyed and actually do what you ask. However, I shouldn't even need to ask about half of this stuff. The rent is decent, the community is great, and everything is super close, but the management just needs to get their s**t together. read more

I am a Sublet "tenant" who was told by original leasee that the people here are helpful and understanding of student's needs. My experiences at Tremont have been the opposite. Staff here are incompetent and clueless. Call in one day with an explanation of process and fees due and a promise of immediate move in, come in the next being given the run around (trying to get forms that were never mentioned to be signed by people who aren't even in town) an extra "service fee" of 200 dollars ("It's for the bus pass. You can't move in until it's paid") and then when you come back with everything ready they'll take your money and tell you "We're closed" read more

If you're living in State College and need somewhere to live do yourself a favor and pick any other place besides Tremont. Tremont is EXTREMELY unprofessional, unorganized, and filthy. For starters, they can't keep any of their deadlines. When I signed the lease they said we would be assigned an apartment by the end of June. Then, it switched to the end of July. Well August comes around and still no update so they tell us by August 10th (multiple times). My roommate and I still haven't received a room confirmation and we were supposed to move in today. No one who works here can do their job. For example, they sent us the incorrect name of our fourth roommate. And, when we did call the office to find out answers they were NOT helpful. They would tell my roommates and I different stories every time and couldn't keep their answers the same. They should be getting 0 stars because of their rudeness and how unhelpful they were. We asked for a manager to call us back on multiple occasions and they couldn't even do that. Then, emails with move-in times were sent out the day we were supposed to move-in but we were still clueless about where we were even living. Attached are just some of the pictures of this disgusting apartment my roommates and I just moved into. Words can't describe how appalling this place is (by the way, that's not our food in those pictures). We were told it would be cleaned prior to moving in. The ONLY person who works here willing to help was Carl. He came bright and early to work on repairing and cleaning the rust and mold. Also, was able to inform us about getting new, clean appliances. He was extremely friendly and the only person here who cares about the residents. Any other apartment complex should hire him because Tremont doesn't deserve him. Edit: Although their reply indicated that they wanted me to stay in contact, they have not given me any means to reach "Lo" and have not reached out to me otherwise. They are trying to make it look as though the problem will be resolved. I was very excited to live here, as the rates are pretty reasonable and the location was convenient for me. However, I was very disappointed with the management's communication and the condition of the apartment when I arrived. I moved in on the 23rd, and found hair, dirt, and toilet paper scraps in the bathroom, and old food, grease, burnt crumbs, and a microwave that did not appear food safe in the kitchen. Shortly after moving in, I contacted the management to see what could be done, and had to wait over a week for a reply. They apologized that the apartment was "not up to [my] standards," as if wanting a clean bathroom and kitchen was an astronomical request. They did offer a replacement microwave, but I was told that the apartment had been "professionally cleaned," and so they would not be able to come back and clean or offer any sort of reimbursement. When I went to the office to address the issue in person, I was informed that all of the units were cleaned, inspected, and re-cleaned if necessary during the turnover period. Obviously, whoever inspected either barely glanced at the unit, or skipped it entirely. They then offered to send a cleaning crew, but at this point, my roommates and I have been living here for almost two weeks. Unless they expected us to live in the filth for that time while we waited for communication from the office, then I don't understand how that could be helpful. All we requested was for the management to acknowledge that the unit was not in reasonable condition upon move-in, and some sort of recompense for the additional work we had to do upon move-in so that the unit was habitable. If you expect to have issues listened to and addressed, I would not recommend Tremont. All the negative reviews are correct and not an isolated incident. They encourage renters to make good reviews to be entered for prizes, so most of the good ones are because of that. Horrible experience, rent went up by 30% for me. I'm not coming back. There are better apartments in the same price range and even at a lower price range. Property not maintained in the winter. I have slipped multiple times and the office is headbaningly annoying. I think it's more the management group than the individual people. 1 Star, they used to be a good company that actually listened to their residents concerns but they recently switched to new management and are awful. I lived there for 3 years and always paid my rent on time and never had an issue now the new management is desperate for money. They are still reaching out to me after I moved out and cleaned my entire room of anything. The apartments are ok, but not as good as they seem. The windows and doors leak air very badly. It is almost as if they have no windows in these apartments for how cold it gets near the windows. The micro climate in parts of the apartment force you to turn the heat up to inefficiently high levels. The hot tub has not worked since I moved in. It is essentially a cold tub which isn't very fun. The positive thing about them though is the free computer lab (with free printing ink) and gym with a variety of workout equipment. The apartment does force you to sign a 12 month lease, meaning you need to pay rent all year no matter if you are living there or not. Overall, they are one of the most affordable off campus apartments, so you can't complain too much. They just have a lot of upgrades and repairs to make in order to receive a higher rating. (New Insulted Windows, door insulation, etc.) read more

I wish I could give this place a lower rating. But honestly every 1 star review on here touches on an exact experience I've had so far with this "community." 1. My first complaint upon move in during August 2017 - the place was lived in, barely cleaned for my arrival, and very plain compared to any models they show you. I don't even know anyone who has the "Deluxe" model they sell/show you, so don't buy that BS. 2. They will constantly nag you to renew your lease (which I did for the 2018-2019 year) claiming it's the lowest rate they'll offer, then you'll renew. Next week, they'll send another email with a LOWER RATE AND FREE GIFT CARDS that wow you can't get it in on because they screwed you. Really shitty way to get rushed students to sign onto a lease they'll seriously regret in a month or two. 3. I sublet my room for the months of May-thru end of July 2018 to a friend of mine. We paid in full for those 3 months and they came up with a "$250 sublease" fee that isn't even mentioned in my lease. I was forced to pay that. 4. When said friend moved into my subleased room, they changed the deadbolt (actually right thing) but THEY GAVE HER AN UNCUT KEY. 5. I tried transferring apartments but never was given a full confirmation on if I was transferred into the apartment I requested. It took 4 different people, and finally the property manager to finally tell me I was placed into my requested apartment. Every time I called, they acted like it was my first time mentioning it, when it was something I requested in April 2018. 6. They say in their emails "Call for Details!" about move in processes. But I was told by the manager that their phone lines are not working. 7. We had a leak in our kitchen ceiling from the apartment above over winter break, it wasn't major. But it took maintenance 7 weeks to fix the gaping hole in the ceiling. They also cut a hole in my bedroom closet, left dust all over my desk and clothes; it also took close to 7 weeks to fix that hole and they never cleaned up anywhere. On the positive side: 1. The V and VE bus are decent. I've never been late to class and I always have a seat on the bus. 2. The room sizes are generous, with nice closets and full (almost Queen) size beds. Having your own room (it's lockable) is a HUGE benefit in State College, and unfortunately you're roped into this place because it's pretty affordable at face value. 3. Parking included and lots of visitor's spaces is also rare in State College. 4. The community is generally quiet at night and I always feel safe. OTHERWISE... there are more complaints than what is mentioned above. Look elsewhere if you can, and if you can't afford anything else, make sure you get a room with people you know (they say they have roommate matching but they just put you in any random room.) read more

This place is managed and run horribly, you've just completed a transaction, visit your apartment you've been assigned to and noticed they're major issues. Returned to the office which was closed but notice someone inside and knocked on the door but was ignored. I kept on knocking and the lady came out and I explained I was just there checking ( moving in) in and her response was they're closed and she will call the cops if I keep knocking. Instead of excellent customer service / customer experience. I was unable to fully explain the situation before she will call the cops. Apparently, she forgot they just took two months rent, forgot to give a receipt, then for someone that did not complete my transaction to write me a receipt. My family and I have experienced the same Racism as the guys that were in Starbucks in Philadelphia. This is a total shame how this was handled. Shame on the owners!!! Stay away from this place. They only care about the money, they will never take responsibility for what they do wrong and if they ever change management they will blame everything on the others and runaway with your money. You may even have to pay twice. But this is not only about the money, I've been living in updated apartments for 2 years, guess they were updated 15 years ago, they are old, dirty, the dresser had one drawer broken, they didn't replace it, the mirror in the bathroom is stuck to the wall with glue and I could go on with the amount of disgusting updated things. But sure, they won't do anything about it, just charge you when you move out for cleaning and repairs they will not do. Save yourself the stress and do not live here! My roommates and I have had so many issues here. Our apartment flooded over winter break due to their poor isolation and ruined most of my one roommates belongings. A pipe burst on one side of the apartment and the water made its way over to the other side of the apartment. That's how long it too staff to even notice there was a problem, since none of us were there. We never even got an I'm sorry out of Tremont and were left with no where to stay. We had to beg them to find us an empty unit we could stay in and had to fight for a new carpet even though ours was destroyed and smelled awful. They also have TERRIBLE communication skills and enter your apartment whenever they feel like it. They are very sneaky in the way they handle things. Over spring break we were never even notified they were in our apartment and we came back to one of our showers completely ripped out for no reason. We still never got a reason and it took them 3 weeks to fix the problem THEY created. Also the apartments are disgusting, they just paint over dirt instead of actually cleaning it. The price may sound good, but pay the extra money and live somewhere else, anywhere but here. read more

I had the worst experience ever. Management sucks. The maintenance employees walk into your apartment whenever they please. They have no shame. My alarm clock now is the maintenance walking into my apartment at 9 am. Every time they want to upgrade something in my apartment, they leave dust everywhere and good luck cleaning it out. Also, when you complain about it, they don't do shit. If you have a concern, just contact the supervisor or the owner of the complex. Otherwise, nothing will get resolved. read more

If you don't care about having a decent apartment where all of your belongs are kept in good condition, then by all means, live here. However, I have had the worst experience here. First of all, management nagged my roommates and I to renew our lease back in November claiming that it was lowest possible rate. Months later, they release renewal rates at $45 less A MONTH than what my roommates and I signed for. Over winter break, a pipe burst in my bedroom and all of my belongings were destroyed and my entire apartment flooded. The pipes weren't insulated. Multiple apartments had pipe bursts as well. Management didn't even have the courtesy to contact me about the problem. Strangers were in and out of the apartment for weeks while the problems were being fixed. Then management didn't want to replace the destroyed carpet and we had to beg them to replace it. Management didn't even offer any compensation for the inconvenience of THEIR construction failure. One of my roommates dropped out and management had the audacity to ask my other roommates and I if we were willing to pay for her utilities...which is a breach of contract since she signed her lease agreeing to pay for her utilities until the end of the lease. Over spring break maintenance broke my shower, and it took them two weeks to replace. I was using my roommates' shower the whole time and again, management didn't have any courtesy to apologize and offer some sort of rent discount (since I wasn't getting the "4 bedroom, 2 bathroom" apartment I was paying for). One time I came back from class and my apartment and bedroom were completely unlocked and wide open, and I was never informed that maintenance was coming in to work in my room. To this day I still do not know who entered my bedroom. I called the office immediately and they informed me the regional manager would be contacting me that day but she never did. Pretty positive that my problems here resulted in the firing of multiple managers/assistants since my dad had to end up reaching out to corporate about my problems. Every time I walk into the office I don't recognize anyone working. Oh and don't believe any of the amenities - if you're only here for the school year then the pool isn't worth it. The Retreat opens their pool during spring semester so if the pool matters to you - live there. The one here is disgusting and dirty and the hot tub isn't even hot....it's lukewarm. Feels like a bath. And the volleyball court? The net has been down for months so basically we just have a giant sandbox. The amenities exist but don't let those win you over when making your decision. The Pointe is probably your best bet if you're trying to live out on Vairo, since the Bryn is owned by the same company that owns Tremont. However, I wouldn't recommend living on Vairo considering N. Atherton has road work EVERY DAY and is continuing to have roadwork into mid-2019. Overall, Tremont sucks and I wish I could terminate my lease for next year but I already signed. Good luck if you have already signed as well. It's not worth the cheap price. It's dirty, old, and has horrible communication. read more
