Within minutes Debbie had us in our room and settled. It is a 3 room boutique style B&B in a lovely house right in the midst of St. Ives down on the harbour. It is a short 5 minute walk from the train station. Our room had a spectacular view of the harbour, and the sunrise the following morning. It was truly a million dollar view. The bed was beyond comfortable with fantastic pillows and bedding. The room was well equipped with a mini fridge, tea and coffee, and a modern en-suite bathroom. The breakfast room was bright and spacious, with a fantastic view of St. Ives harbour to inspire you to get out and enjoy the fresh sea air. Breakfast had a good variety of choice with fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and a choice of fry up. The bread used for the toast has to be mentioned so yummy and such nice thick slices. Debbie and Carl our hosts were lovely, very welcoming and professional.

We stayed here recently on a stag do. The hotel came as part of a package, so I have no idea how…read moremuch it actually costs to stay. In terms of the building, this is probably one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. Our 4 person room had a bunk bed and two additional beds, crammed in so tightly that you had to side step between them. We were lucky (!) enough to have an en-suite, which had a slide door which did not shut probably. The shower started off freezing cold for the first few minutes before, in a mater of seconds, changing to being painfully hot. Dangerously so in fact; I would not want to let a child use this shower. The other rooms in the hotel share bathrooms, each broken in their own way (toilet impossible to flush, shower hose broken off wall etc.). The place seemed generally dirty. When we arrived we each had to pay a £30 cash deposit, which was only returned after inspection and waiting around for 45 minutes on departure. They made a big fuss about how good their English breakfasts were: sadly these fell well below expectations, featuring only the bear minimum of beans, eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato and toast (no mushrooms, black pudding, hash browns here!). The ingredients all seemed to be from an economy/value supermarket range, and no-one in our group could stomach the sausages. They have a pool table in the front longe, and also an outside picnic table. The front of the hotel offers nice sea views. They also have a licensed bar (drinks poured from cans but at pub prices). On a positive note, the staff were genuinely friendly people, and seemed interested in where we were planning to go out, and what activities we had planned during the day (surfing). As such, I think this saved The Ridge from being 1 star - however, if it costs more than about £20 pppn to stay there I would definitely give this place a miss.

It was originally a 17th-century rectory. It's now a luxurious place, from bedroom to bathroom (with some bathtubs overlooking the ocean) to heated swimming pool. Hosts are attentive, food and drink is great. It's a wonderful place to chill out, Cornish-style. We spent a day picking up part of the South West Coastal Path (http://www.swcp.org.uk/) here, and it was really nice. Breakfast is something special here: they have a Michelin chef. It's not cheap (check the web site for prices), but it's great for a special weekend away.

A lovely Georgian house with beautiful gardens set out by Marion & Peter Stanley over a ten year…read moreperiod from 1994, this bed & breakfast was recently taken over by Erik & Sue Thorbek, originally from Kent, and their live-in chef, Anthony Taylor. The hosts invite you to roam the immaculate house as if it was your own, but personally we felt very aware that it was their house and not ours, and never could get very comfortable. It's quite a posh establishment, full of silver nick knacks and antique furniture, and topped off with a surprisingly large amount of chintz. Rooms are smallish and a bit creaky (well it is an old house) but well supplied, although we found the beds too soft for a good nights sleep. The food ranged from above average to very good, but the one dinner we had never reached the promised Michelin starred level we had hoped for. The wine on the other hand did, even though we only had the chance to sample the house wine. Apparently the house boasts an extensive cellar. Overall it's an expensive place to stay and we didn't feel it was worth the money. It seemed to be aimed at a 'posher' visitor than us and with so many other recommended places to stay nearby it's hard to see why you would choose Landewednack House over others. If you're particularly posh yourself it'll probably suit, otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

Located in a secluded spot, it's quiet enough for a noiseless night's sleep while only 3 minutes walk to pubs, restaurants, bakeries, butcher and grocery store. The kitchen is fully equipped (the host put eggs, bacon, milk and jam in the fridge along with a loaf of crusty bakery bread) with all the necessary crockery and pots and pans. Plenty of tea and coffee too. WiFi worked great, flat panel TV, plenty of heat and hot water, we couldn't have been happier. Everything is in walking distance, we walked to Penzance via the marine promenade, through Newlyn and around the shoreline. Penzance was decorated for Christmas, with a street fair in full swing. The host (Tiggy) was the most charming and helpful person we've encountered in many years of travel...she alone makes staying at the Cottage worthwhile. We will stay there again!

When my friend asked me to be his best man, I had the unenviable task of deciding quite what to do…read morefor his stag do. In the end, we went to Cornwall, and stayed at Whitesands Lodge. In a tee-pee. This place is fantastic, if you need to get away for a long weekend or even an extended break - because while they have standard accommodation in student, backpacker style dorm rooms with powershowers and fully fitted kitchens, they also provide a camping area for tents, and more importantly they have several authentic tee-pees. These things are not just for show, they are real, and built in almost the same way as native americans build theirs. There were 5 of us staying in one of the tee-pees, and it's fantastic. They are large, with comfortable sleep mats for your sleeping bags, and plenty of room. If you need the loo in the middle of the night, that can be tricky since you have to walk back into the main building, but if you're lucky and it's a clear night with a full moon, you'll have no problems finding your way. It was so much fun - and that was just the tee-pees. On saturday nights the lodge organises a barbeque for all the guests, with a selection of meat and fresh fish, often caught that day from the local town, Sennen. There are loads of things to do - Sennen Beach is a long, beautiful sandy beach with some of the best surfing in the UK. Land's End, the west-most point of England, is only a half hour walk away from the camping ground, and passing back through Sennen on the return leg you can stop for some authentic Cornish Cream Tea. There is a good pub a short distance south from the Lodge, with live music and great company. Everyone is so friendly and everything feels so fresh. Check out the photos for this place, the description that I've given hardly does it justice. I highly recommend that if you're looking for some way of relaxing for a few days, get down to Whitesands Lodge, take your sleeping bag and a few friends, and leave everything else behind.

The owners and staff could not do enough for you; the room we stayed in was fantastic with views over Lands End and the surrounding coast. The only down side to this hotel is that its 450+ miles away from my house in Darlington. We have already enquired about stay again for our wedding anniversary later on in the year. Amazing

We've been in Cornwall before but didn't have time for Land's End. This time around we made sure to…read morevisit. Came here a little before lunchtime. Busy, but not too busy. Still plenty of parking left. It was a nice, sunny, picture-perfect day. There is no entrance fee for Land's End. Just the fixed fair priced parking rate. I've read many reviews stating that Land's End became like a theme park, a circus. And I would say that's too harsh. Yes, there are shops, selling lots of souvenirs and touristy stuff. There are games, attractions too. But there are some fun items to be found in the shops. We bought some, we had fun. And there are several food options. Some stalls for a quick bit or a sit-down restaurant with more options. We just grabbed some cornish pasty and a seat outside. And if you're not interested in the museums and the attractions then just skip them. Because Land's End is well worth a visit for the views and the walks. The SW Coast path is just behind the village. Views are spectacular. Walk north toward the "First & Last House" and keep walking along the coast. Or choose to go south from the village. We tried out both. But ended up walking longer on the path going south. Lots of wonderful photo ops, amazing views of the coastline. And not that many walkers even along the way. Would recommend at least sneakers (and not Flip-Flops as we've seen). All in all a very nice visit. Pet-friendly as well! Surely a must-do when in Cornwall if you've never been.
