Our experience with Northern Neck Insurance has now reached the point where the underlying dispute…read morewill be addressed in court this week. Because litigation is pending, I am intentionally not going to debate the evidence or merits of the case here. Those issues belong before the court, where both sides will have the opportunity to present their evidence and arguments. We didn't begin this process looking for a lawsuit or a legal fight. We began as policyholders asking questions and raising concerns about how our claim was being handled. Northern Neck's response to those inquiries included a letter from an attorney, before a lawsuit was ever filed. What I can fairly say is that this experience has reinforced something I believe every policyholder should remember: ask questions, keep detailed records, save every communication, understand how your claim is being evaluated, and advocate for yourself when you believe something isn't right. Insurance is something families faithfully pay for year after year with the expectation that when a significant loss occurs, the claim will receive a thorough, fair, and impartial review. When a policyholder has legitimate questions about that process, those questions deserve clear answers. Insurance companies ask their customers to trust that they will be there when they're needed. With that trust comes a responsibility to treat policyholders' questions and concerns seriously. Our experience with Northern Neck has left us with significant concerns about whether the claim process we experienced lived up to that expectation. We've asked our questions. Northern Neck has taken its position. We respect that process and on Wednesday, we'll put the evidence in front of the court.
