There is pickup and drop off parking on the street in front of the station. It was busy, but we got there early enough to find a space. We were picking up friends arriving from Fort Lauderdale. Outside, there's seating and a bicycle rack. Inside, downstairs, there are a couple seats, and a sanitizer station, and bathrooms. Also inside downstairs, is a posting with all the trains for that day organized by direction and routings. They also tell you whether the specific train is on time or not. When I came in to check out the station, I was immediately greeted and welcomed and offered assistance. Those that need help are directed to the customer service desk. To access the trains, you need to go up the escalator right next to the service desk. Inside, everything was spotlessly clean and comfortably air conditioned. It was suggested that you download their app for the easiest convenience. Our friends liked their trip experience so much, that they plan to take Brightline to Orlando sometime.

It might not necessarily be Amtrak's fault, but surrounding trains and other complexities make the Amtrak not a great way to get around. This has been my go-to mode of transportation lately when traveling to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport or Miami International Airport. Parking is simple, the staff is knowledgeable, and prices are low (typically $6-$10 max). It's also easy to navigate with luggage and small children. As with any situation these days, you must stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings while traveling, but I've honestly had no issues. This is not a luxury experience but it is cost effective. I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the low-cost public transportation we deserve as tax-paying citizens.

The Seaboard Air Line Railroad was an American railroad which existed from April 14, 1900, until July 1, 1967 when it merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. AIr Line does not refer to air travel but instead is a common term for the shortest distance between two points. The railroad operated 4,000 miles of track running from Richmond, Virginia down through Jacksonville and ending in West Palm Beach. Solomon Davies Warfield, chairman of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad at the time, extended the railroad further into South Florida to Miami in 1925 and to Homestead in 1927 where it ended. Solomon Davies Warfield was the uncle of Bessie Wallis Warfield Simplson, the woman whose love affair with King Edward forced him to abdicate the throne. This train station, like all of the Seaboard Air Line Stations, was designed by architect L. Philipps Clarke. It opened on January 25, 1925 with the arrival of the Orange Blossom Express, a train that ran from 1925 to 1953 between New York and Miami in the winter. This was one of 40 stations built around this time frame for the railroad. The Mediterranean Revival style building was built by the largest firm in Palm Beach, Harvey & Clark. The train station was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 19, 1973. In 1988 the City of Palm Beach purchased the building. After a 4.3 million dollar renovation the station was reopened in a ceremony attended by Florida's governor in 1991. Only two of the Seaboard Air Line Stations have been destroyed. The Boynton Beach station was torn down in 2006 and the Delray Station was destroyed by arson a few months ago. Thanks to the care taken by the City of West Palm Beach, this majestic station still maintains it's beauty today while serving Amtrak and Tri Rail travelers.

We rarely make it down to Miami for a flight, but West Palm is usually worth going north to that airport for a flight. We planned a weekend trip to New York last month and with a bit cross checking, Palm Beach International Airport had the best flight based on flight time and cost. It is nice to be able to just walk into a airport that's not crazy at all. within minutes after walking in we are almost always gateside. They have a quick TSA area, and once by the gate there is always spot to grab a bite or drink. This last trip there was a open space bar in the middle of the rotunda where we could see our gate and about four others, so it was easy to time our check grab and getting in line for our flight. We generally fly out of Fort Lauderdale, but when its close to a tie which to go with, we got Palm Beach.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by confusion, disorder, and a level of cleanliness that suggests housekeeping is more of a suggestion than a job. Nothing seems to flow the way an airport should. It's almost impressive how such a simple concept--moving passengers efficiently--can be turned into such a disorganized production. One thing that stood out was the number of adults lingering around the children's restroom area. Maybe there was a perfectly innocent explanation, but seeing it happen repeatedly wasn't exactly reassuring. It would be nice if someone whose job it is to monitor the airport actually... monitored the airport. The staff seemed to have mastered the art of looking busy while accomplishing very little. Customer service felt optional, accountability appeared mythical, and professionalism was nowhere to be found. Congratulations to whoever is running this place. Turning an airport into what feels like a DMV, bus station, and abandoned warehouse all rolled into one is quite an achievement. I'll gladly pay extra to fly somewhere else next time. I purchased my ticket at the kiosk and borded the next train for the Fort Lauderdale airport. It was roughly a 40-minute ride. Once I got off the train I followed the signs to the airport shuttle on the first floor of the parking garage. Please note, the shuttle bus does not have a shuttle sign on it. If you don't know you better ask somebody which is what I did;) The shuttle bus ride to the Fort Lauderdale airport was about 10 minutes. The signs on the bus indicated Caribbean Airlines was Terminal 4. PLEASE NOTE, they moved to Terminal 1. Imagine my shock and surprise when I get inside the terminal to find out the airline is not there. I was taking an international flight and it was getting pretty close to the 2-hour window of arrival. I ended up catching a cab back to Terminal 1 as it would have taken me too long to walk and the shuttle bus was long gone. The taxi cost roughly $10. I highly recommend this mode of transportation so you don't have to leave your car at the airport and pay the extra expense. But I highly recommend you check the airport website beforehand to verify which terminal hosts your airline.

The service operates with an app very similar to Uber/Lyft. The service is generally Free unless you plan a trip to the beach. There is a fee for that ride. The service uses GEM electric vehicles - overpriced golf carts. The ride is surprisingly comfortable and safe. It has no air conditioning but it does keep you out of the rain. Great affordable service. Remember to tip the driver. NOTE: Remember this is a ride share service.... expect to wait.

Shortly after, the driver called and assured me he would arrive in 15 minutes. Despite this, by 5:20PM the driver still not arrived, forcing me to cancel the ride after waiting over 50 minutes. BTW I got a ride home with a colleague and there was no traffic in Palm Beach and no traffic over the bridge and along Flagler Drive. This level of serivce is unacceptable. Accurate wait times and reliable service are basic expectations. You either need to hire more drivers to significantly improve you system so customers are not misled and left waiting indefinitely. This has occurred many times.
