Last year we filed separately as well and it cost $500 less! Nothing complex about the taxes either..standard interest mortage..etc. Only difference from last year to this year were a set of stock options that were cashed that were captured in our W2s...so hardly warrants the fee tripling! Shame on me for not asking the fees up front, but he was recommended by a good friend, so didn't think I had to worry about it.
