I've been using Tr-State for servicing of my boats for about 15 years and I live about 1 hour and 45 minutes away. I've accepted their policy of no appointments just drop the boat off and they will get to it when the can. I've also paid what I feel is above market price for their service. I called to check the lead time for a 100 hour service and was told about a week. When I dropped the boat off the next morning it was now a week to week and a half lead time. Two days before the week and a half was up called to see where I was in the schedule and was told I was close. The guy got a bit rude when I asked for a better answer than "close" and said maybe tomorrow or the next day or possibly the following week and that he wouldn't make any guarantees. He did offer to take me off his schedule when I told him I was going to call around to see if another dealer could fit me in. At this point it was no longer acceptable for me to stay with a company that did not value me as a customer and doesn't appreciate customer loyalty so I said yes please take me off the schedule. I made an appointment with another authorized Yamaha dealer who will now be getting all of my business. Just a side note, this coming spring I will probably be buying a new $200k+ boat and was seriously considering their dealership. Now I will not be buying it from Tri-State. read more

Think twice before you decide to broker your boat with Tri-State. Tried to make an offer on a brokerage boat today and was advised that b/c I was out of state, I would need to drive 8 hours to make the offer in person as brokered boats could not be sold without being physically present. Then was advised that they would make an exception - the rep agreed to take an offer to the owner. Rep then called back to say he was unable to present the offer to the boat owner as it was against company policy= this after just saying an exception would be made. I then asked "If I had offered a higher price were initially offered would it have been presented to the seller?" and was told "yes". Unbelievable!! A broker's has a responsibility to take all offers to the owner. It's called a negotiation for a reason-that was my initial offer. Very questionable business practices to say the least. I took my boat in for bottom paint. When the fork lift guy set the boat back on the trailer he broke the bumper board. The clerk called to tell me that my bumper board was rotten and that they could fix it for only $180. I refused because it was a new trailer and there was no rot. When I looked at it it became obvious the the boat had been placed incorrectly. When I complained, they offered me a new bumper board which was 8 inches too short. These guys are liars and cheats. read more
