My sons mother enrolled him in Triad school, she signed a contract with the school stating she would give 30 days notice which she did not. She removed my son from the school and owes a balance. I purchased my son a laptop at the apple store for his class, being she pulled him out of school I went to retrieve my property. I was told they were keeping my laptop and had it locked up and would not give it back to me because an entirely different person signed a binding contact with them and owes them money. Basically they told me straight up they are keeping my brand new MacBook and absolutely will not return it. What a terrible organization. I have filed a police report for stolen property and will sue them in court for the price of the MacBook and lost wages to attend court. Steer clear of this school. read more

We have really appreciated Triad School for our older child, who is now finishing up her second year there. We are sending our other child to this school this fall. One of the biggest advantages to us of Triad is the educational model, where for core subjects students are moved to the academic level that best suits them. For example, math is at the same hour for the entire school, so a child who is more advanced or needs more help can float to the level and small group that best suits them. This happens very seamlessly and (as far as I can tell) without stigmatizing students. Small group assignments can shift quite easily as needs change. Not having to spend time and energy advocating for just the right amount of challenge for my child is huge. The curriculum is varied, including Spanish, science, art, social emotional learning, PE, and a theater-like session with Kidscape. The physical campus has nice classrooms that each has some slightly different nice features. The outdoor area is not huge but is well maintained and seems adequate for the size of school. The teachers are really engaged and design interesting class material. As an example, my child (who is in one of the younger grades) is currently working on a year-end research project of a major public figure, using both reading and video material to learn more about this figure. This is a culmination of progress made this year in reading and social studies. My child will also get practice in synthesizing and presenting real-world information to her class. Another example is in PE, which could easily be cursory and boring. Instead, the teacher varies the PE curriculum. She used the winter Olympics as a way to create games mimicking different athletic events, which my child enjoyed so much even though she is really not a sports lover. The staff (such as the director and the main admin as the main individuals who interface with the parents) are smart and capable. Interacting with them always makes me think my kids are in good hands. As a non-academic example, my child has some severe food allergies, and all the teachers (not just her homeroom teacher) are great about alerting me ahead of time about any food being offered in the classroom. So there is clearly a policy about this and it's adhered to. Bottom line, my experience has been that Triad is a well-run and organized school that offers excellent, well-rounded programming and has been a great fit for my child. My child truly loves school and really hates when she has to miss due to the occasional illness. I'm hopeful we will have as great of an experience with our (very different) other incoming child! read more

Triad School is the best private K-8 school in the Reno area. They have small class sizes and individualized learning, which has been the most beneficial for my son. From what I have seen in over two years at Triad is the staff is what makes this school amazing. They truly care about the students and the majority of them are continuing their own education in the field. If you are looking for a place for your child to flourish then I highly recommend scheduling a tour with Triad School. If you ask any student I am sure they will tell you that they love it at Triad. My child started at Triad a couple months ago and although I loved the school from the beginning, I wanted to give it a while before writing anything on here. Bottom line: I could not be happier with this school. We moved here from out of the area and did a lot of research about the schools. We were willing to commute for the right school and the decision to pay for a private school is not one we took lightly. We did a tour of Triad and were so impressed with their program and thought it was definitely worth enrolling and seeing how things went. From an academic perspective, as others have said on here, the school is incredible. Far beyond just memorization and basic concepts, the time is taken with each student to ensure they have a solid grasp of what is being taught so they have a great educational foundation upon which to build. Also HUGE amounts of time goes into building critical thinking skills which, I don't need to tell you, are crucial. Every single teacher and staff member is engaged and dedicated to really caring for the kids and helping them to grow and mature into great human beings. The growth we have seen in our child in just these first couple of months not just academically, but socially has been great! The social/emotional learning aspect has really helped in more ways than one. Again, it's definitely an investment and it's certainly not "cheap" as far as tuition goes. However, I can honestly say there is not a single day that goes by that I am not so grateful for this school. They are worth their weight in gold and we are so lucky to have them. read more

I am giving my honest review because I truly wished someone did for me - I know its stressful trying to find the right school for your family. Background on us: my child is attending 2nd grade at Triad this 2017/2018 school year, I home schooled 1st grade, and kindergarten & daycare (starting at 2 years old) she was at Brookfield. My review of Triad in a nutshell: Top notch school and education and excellent all around. 1. The beauty of this school is that it doesn't matter where your child is at academically, the custom curriculum is for every single child. During each subject like math and language arts the children are grouped according to ability (not age nor grade). Throughout the school year some kids may grasp concepts faster than others so the groups are constantly changing. This was key for us as my child had a great start and was ahead academically for her grade. 2. Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) is a part of the curriculum not just a tool. They get an actual grade on SEL. The SEL has a licensed Phycologist that is also one of the approved groups that does the public school GATE testing. During SEL the regular school teachers are not present so it's a safe environment for children to discuss things. 3. Triad is like a homeschool education (but better because of trained educators as teachers) without the struggles of doing it yourself. At Triad my daughter has many teachers and is exposed to different teaching styles and personalities. 4. I am constantly impressed by how behavior conflicts are handled. It actually makes me doubt my Parenting Skills. If there is an issue in class and the child has had their fair share of warnings, they can be sent to the Principal's office for a reset or reflection. This is not a bad thing. It allows the class to continue and gives the child an opportunity to take a break and reflect what has happened. 5. The Owner/Principal is Yvonne Blinde. She is an amazing Parent, excellent Principal, and very smart Business Woman. These 3 things are very hard to be all at the same time when you have children at the school, have to make decisions for the good of the school, and own it as a business. 6. You have 30 day notice policy verse having to sign a contract to pay a full school year. I love the "If you are not happy here, we don't want you to have to stay" philosophy. 7. One of the best things I LOVE about Triad is that I can see where every penny of tuition goes. It's physically visible on the facilities, security system, software to communicate to parents of the progress of kids is great, and equipment. I have also seen how one curriculum may not be working for the kids so the Teacher talked with the Principal and together they switched it - custom curriculum. 8. There are only a few negatives for me. A) One is the cost of tuition, it is hard for me. But I see that my child is getting more than what I pay. I do the math of tuition and how many children and I don't see how it is all paying for the high number of adults per child ratio or top notch education. B) I'm not a fan of the children having their own mac laptops. Luckily we had an old one that we could let my daughter use. I just don't think a 7 year old can appreciate the value of a mac laptop. They do not have a computer lab, so I do see why they prefer students to have the laptops. read more

I don't post very many reviews on Yelp. But this school was a very bad experience for our family. It looked like the perfect fit for our special needs child. We met with them several times prior to enrolling and were very clear on our child's needs and learning disability. We even provided a report from a licensed psychologist stating his deficits and needs. They were eager and excited to work with him, as we were. We were on board as a family to be involved and help our child adjust in all ways, Our child had been through some major life changes including his Grandfather's death and a divorce and was having some behavior problems. But, for a school that promotes SEL..it is not practiced or used to help the children. The director is not experienced in handling challenging behavior from children and demands that the parents are on-site to help with any issues. For a school to even expect a parent to be at school for six hours a day is ridiculous. So...not only do you have to pay a very high tuition, but we also had to be there to help with any behavior problems. Over the course of a whole month..there was only one time that we had to talk to our child and then send him back to class. Yes, we actually took turns to be at the school just in case they needed our help. This has happened several times with other students. I, for one, believe if a school is unable to discipline a child on their own; then perhaps they are in the wrong line of work. Unfortunately, for our child he was treated unfairly and it has affected him negatively since then. They would not enroll him for the next year and claimed it was In the best interest of the school. I would not recommend this school to anyone whether your child is gifted or not. read more

Triad has been a complete game changer for our son. We are so grateful to Ms. Blinde and her staff for creating such a welcoming and positive environment. My son has done a complete 180; now he enjoys school, participates, and feels safe because he is in a respectful environment. The curriculum is engaging, and based on my conversations with Ms. Blinde, it is clear to see she is always on the lookout for current research to better serve the students. Our grandson is starting his second year at Triad School. He transferred from another Reno private school last January. We have seen such a positive difference in him since he started school there. He is more confident and engaged in his classes. He has referred to the folks at Triad as his "Triad Family" The director, Yvonne, spends so much time talking with parents, explaining the educational philosophy and answering questions. You never go away with unanswered questions. Parental involvement is encouraged and welcomed by both the director and teachers. The school is bright and clean with both indoor and outdoor playgrounds. Each classroom is inviting with sitting areas where kids can climb high or relax into a covered bean bag sitting area. Their library is exceptional. The overall atmosphere is calm yet lively. The students have a Spanish teacher, an art teacher, music studies led by Jampro, SEL group weekly along with daily studies in very small groups--sometimes one-on-one. The teachers are able to focus on each child, know how they are doing in their classes and customize learning where needed. With the public schools becoming more crowded each year, we consider ourselves fortunate to have gotten our grandson in while there were still openings in his grade level. read more

Triad offers a unique approach to learning. This is not "meet the standards & move on" type of learning. The small classes, individualized curriculum paths, Social Emotional instruction, Spanish, Art and Music - it all goes above and beyond. I see happy, engaged, well adjusted, socially intelligent little dynamos going from subject to subject in non-crowded, fun classrooms. The teachers are supported in forward thinking learning concepts and the kids get to have some input on what they learn. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking skills, ask questions, and make mistakes so they can then learn from those mistakes. Resiliency and respect are practiced by both students and staff. The kids have plenty of time to just play - the indoor and out door play areas look really fun. But since I'm a lame grown-up I am told that I can't judge the play part. The Administration and their marketing like to highlight "school fitness." I am so happy to have found the right "fit" for my student. I am glad there are some choices in Reno as every kid learns differently and finding the right fit is hard. read more

My son joined Triad about a month ago and we have already see a tremendous improvement in his confidence, his willingness to communicate with others, and his overall happiness. Our son has attended several other schools in Reno and we feel relieved to finally see our son thriving. Triad's small class size is providing our son a comfortable and quiet environment that is often difficult to find at other schools. Our son's anxiety has nearly diminissed and he no longer has to were head phones becuause the classroom it too loud. Triad is a school where children are given the individual attention they need and a curriculum that is suited for each child. We feel fortunate to have found such a gem of a school! It is unfortunate that a school with so much potential would act in such an unprofessional, uncaring manner. You would like to think that a school would have the best interest of the child at heart, but that was not our experience. Parent/administrator personality problems aside, the very least that should be expected of a school is to treat the child in a professional manner. Is it right to deny registration to a current student one week before a public school alternative is to open, leaving that special medical needs student with no place to go? How do you tell a family that they cannot re-register their child for school? At Triad they do it by e-mail with no phone or personal one on one communication with the parent. Triad School has made a huge difference in our son's life, and our lives as parents, in just the few short months he has been there. He is finally being challenged in a way that excites him to learn. He loves and thoughtfully engages in his favorite subjects and enjoys participating in the Fine Arts, which was previously a struggle. We were delighted to see him singing and playing the violin on stage at Jam Pro, as well as bringing home works of art that he is proud of. Behavior issues have improved dramatically due to the exciting and individually customized curriculum, small class sizes (no more than 10!), and emotional support/interpersonal coaching that all kids should be getting.
