I called several home care providers who told me it would take as many as five days to find care givers. I needed someone to drive me home and begin care the next day. We Care could provide what I needed. They helped me complete the necessary forms, line by line. I was extremley anxious about being home. Diane and Sonia were able to support and encourage me through my anxious moments. They provided both physical and emotional support as I adjusted to being home. In addition, all my laundry was done, my bed changed, dishes washed, and my meals were prepared. They both went "above and beyond". I valued their companionship as I adjusted to being on my own. They became like surrogate family members, and I appreciate their caring and kindness above all.

RUN, don't walk from the Visiting Angels location for Baltimore. The franchise owner/"manager" is…read morehands down THE WORST "professional" I have ever had the misfortune to meet. The highlight of our association was on our first meeting when she walked right into my father-in-law's house without knocking or being invited in. In our experience with her and Visiting Angels, Gina was rude, incompetent, extremely lazy, and a tad shady. She refuses to provide timely invoices, if she provides them at all. She also refuses to respond to emails. Whenever you do get the opportunity to speak to her, her only response is "to keep costs low." Most of the aides she employees were good but Gina is so horrible, it's just not worth it. We went to another company for a substantial rate increase just to end our nightmare with Gina. I can't stress enough how HORRIBLE Gina is and the Corporate Office of Visiting Angels really needs to re-evaluate their connection to Gina.

We were, in fact, looking at ways to bring Gracie back a few times a week. They were actually referred to us by the Alzheimer's and Dementia Center at Johns Hopkins. Now, I would never trust this franchise of Visiting Angels, would never recommend them to anyone and fully intend on informing John's Hopkins of our experience with this franchise. I met with Gina, the owner, to sign the paperwork and go over things the day before my husband and I had to go out of town for a wedding. I specifically asked her to send the invoice to my work address and she said it was no problem, she could even email it to me. She then said that she needed a credit card because she had been stiffed in the past, which I understood. I've been checking my email and my spam folder since we got back, no sign of an invoice. Wednesday morning, my husband tells me the entire amount has been charged to our credit card. I called the office, wanting an invoice, but no one ever answers the phone there and the billing extension isn't set up. I finally get Gina on the phone, after calling the main Visiting Angels number. She acts like I'm insane for wanting an invoice and goes "Oh, you wanted an invoice?" Yes, I generally don't give carte blanche for anyone to just charge my card without knowing how much I'm being charged. What really spurred this review, was her reaction when my husband called her to see if we could a) get an invoice and b) split the payment up into 2 cards. She was dismissive and then told him "Your wife never asked for an invoice, you must be getting a different story." Thanks for insinuating that I'm lying to my husband. I was looking forward to working with them, again the care my mother received was excellent. But I will never give my money to a company that thinks it can charge your credit card, without an invoice, and then lie to cover their own behind.

I needed cooking and cleaning twice a week by lower level healthcare professionals (really just capable, kind, people), and then I knew I would need visits by a nurse practitioner on perhaps a monthly basis when I had health crises. Sarah, the owner, appears to be a CNA or layperson. My understanding is that she used to do home health care at one point before deciding to go into business for herself. At any rate, she was pleasant enough, but the process for arranging appointments soon proved cumbersome. She has no electronic method for either making or confirming appointments. This meant that it took four phone calls for each visit we set up. In addition, we set up visits that she then changed by mistake, and subsequently raised her voice at me about for an extended period of time. Overall, I spent more than 100 minutes on the phone with her, and only saw one provider one time. This was irritating in general, but one day, when my pain was extremely high (definite 8-I had taken all the pain medicine I could, I was lying on multiple ice packs, and I still was in burning nerve agony and writhing with nausea), she called and insisted on a drawn out conversation to go over the schedule yet again. I told her I just couldn't. Not that day. But i could text. And that I probably would be able to talk the next day, but not right then. She told me she couldn't be my provider if I refused to carry out business over the phone. That "everyone is texting" and that's not how she conducts business. I don't know what sorts of patients she has worked with in the past, but obviously she hasn't worked with patients in severe pain before or those patients have had caretakers who dealt with her for them. I texted her a copy of a pain scale that delineates what happens at pain of 8 and 9. Conversations become impossible at those levels. But no, she "had been caring for patients for 25 years," understood pain management, and suggested I get a nurse specifically to manage my pain. I do not need a nurse to come to my house to manage my pain. I have a team of doctors, nurses, and physical therapists already doing all they can. What I need is someone to come to my home to help me do things I cannot do for myself, and to do so without adding to my problems. I expect "regular" people to have difficulty with the concept of pain, but I am saddened that a home nursing agency cannot comprehend what a pain patient would need. I will be looking for new agencies. This time I will hire a more professional cleaning and cooking outfit, and will hire a much more professional home nurse. Perhaps it is my fault for believing that someone without a solid understanding of my illness would be able to have empathy toward me, and thus adequately meet my needs. I will specifically look for a nursing agency run by a MD, DO, or NP--someone who might realize that the pain of my illness is known to be worse than that of cancer and just about any other disease out there. And when I say I just can't, I really mean I can't.
