Cory is awesome. My husband and I were visiting and wanted to get tattoos as a souvenir. Cory fit us in a day before we left (which ensured we wouldn't be tempted to take a dip in the ocean with our new ink.) We showed him some ideas and he designed us some great pieces. Highly recommend
WOW!! What a great experience. I went to Kawaii for my honey moon. wanted our anniversary date in a rose petal on a existing tattoo I have. I also decided to add a Polynesian shark to my sleeve I'm building. Danny with Tried and true, is a true professional. Not only is the work amazing. He was so easy going and fun to talk with. Light on the needle, I really couldn't even tell he was there. A lot of artists are honestly smug. This man was humble to the bone. If I'm ever back I will see him again. Thanks for everything.

I called to see if there was the possibility of a same day appointment and Cory just happened to have some time open up. I was in the shop having him create my tattoo within 30 minutes of our phone conversation. I totally appreciate his honesty about the type and location of my initial tattoo idea. Once I thought I had made my mind up, I decided to change just about everything including the location. He came up with an even better idea than I thought! I keep memories of my travels in the form of tattoos from everywhere I go. This is my 3rd from the Hawaiian Islands and I couldn't be happier!! Thank you so very much Cory for such an amazing tattoo!!
Tried and True tattoo is a great shop to get your tattoo while in Kauai! The owner Cory is friendly and easy to talk to. Danny is the artist who did ring tattoos to celebrate my husband and my 30th wedding anniversary. They turned out great and by the next day, no pain. I highly recommend Tried and True tattoo to anyone interested in getting a tattoo while on Kauai! The employees are great and shop is comfortable. Thank you!!
They took us in on the same day, did the design quickly customized and got us going! He's courteous and thoughtful unlike what you "may" expect from a typical tattoo artist. He seems very humble and has a good head on his shoulders and definitely knows what he's doing. I could tell that the safety and hygiene practice were his top priority and I appreciated that very much. Their store minimum was a $100 so even though I got a small one it was still $100 +tax. I guess it's the cost of getting it done in HI, where everything is imported. My husband got a Hawaiian Island chain with Hawaiian flag incorporated across his back and it was just shy of $350ish I think. That's a deal I think!! FUI- they only accept cash or Venmo. It was super quick to download and set up Venmo so if you're tech savvy you'll be ok cashless (just tell him to add the tip in requesting amount). Oh and ask for WiFi password so it'll go much faster. Without WiFi, you'll get to reminisce the good ol' dial up days. Just sayin' I'm happy with my honu I got with my bestie. Thank you for taking good care of three of us today!!
After some extensive Yelp research my wife and I decided to check out Tried & True to memorialize our trip. Cory was extremely professional, and friendly. During our consultation the day before our appointment Cory was both receptive to our design ideas while providing excellent honest feedback based upon his decades of experience to ensure the best results. Unlike some shops there were no pretentious vibes here. Cory was able to take my design ideas and create a piece that was even better than I had imagined. I can't say for sure but I also have to imagine the extremely smooth healing process and comfort had to do with the high quality of the workmanship. Honestly I couldn't possibly be happier with the results. The only negative is that I can't imagine going anywhere else now! (Guess that means more trips to Kauai, bummer

They took us as walk ins they were patient and helpful with info we were So satisfied. No regrets. Even came back the next day for them to help cover it up. Cuz I messed up the covering.
I wanted a Hawaiian tat in Kauai as we have spent time here every year for a long time. This shop was great. I watched an artist finish a client, and do a thorough clean up and sterilization of his space and instruments to prepare for the next client. I saw their work and spoke to Cory (the owner) because I was a walk in. He gave me space after his current client. He took my design and tweaked it as per our conversation. I was so happy with it. Cory had such a great sense of humor and was very engaging in conversation. My husband and I both appreciated his expertise and down home way of making us comfortable. I would recommend this shop highly.
Came here back in November on an anniversary trip. I am not compulsive with tattoos and never got one spur of the moment - usually I sit on it for about 5 to 7 years. Glad I did! I worked with Evan and he was super nice and really helped ease my worried mind. I came in with a couple of concepts and let him add on creatively. I am so grateful I found this place before leaving the island. I love my new tattoo and I get compliments from a lot of people who enjoy it too. Thank you sooo much, :D . Best tattoo experience I've ever had! Cory made me feel so welcome and comfortable the entire process. I've been wanting a tattoo of a plumeria for years and promised myself I would get one the next time I came to Kauai. My friends came to Tried & True a few years ago so I was familiar with the place. My husband and I were driving in the area and saw the shop and decided- what the heck? Let's set an appointment! Cory helped me figure out the best day for me to get my tattoo before I head back home to San Diego, and we booked with a deposit. The day of my appointment, Cory was so professional but personable. He showed me all of their sterilized instruments and explained the process and post care in detail and made sure I knew I could contact him if I had any questions or concerns. I'm in love with the plumeria he created and am so happy to take home a piece of Kauai with me! Thanks Cory for the best experience and send off home!

This review comes super late. But my husband and I had such a good experience here with Danny! We were on the island for our honeymoon back in sept 2021 and we had wanted to get a couple's tattoo, but made the mistake of not planning in advance. We called up Tried & True and were able to schedule a last minute consultation & appointment. Danny was very nice and accommodating and worked with us to bring our vision to life. The line work was exceptional and didn't take too long to complete both of ours! I would definitely recommend coming here and going to Danny if you have something with finer details! read more

It's not easy to find someone who can do good, light line work especially on an island. Danny is up for the task. Tried & True is run by a couple local guys and it checks out. With a laid back atmosphere, you can tell they are in it for the art rather than just cranking out a ton of sea turtles for tourists (unless that's what you want in which case they can do that, too!) After care was a breeze as his light touch meant no bleed at all. Picture is 6 months on. Give them a call to set up your time. You won't be disappointed! read more

Got a great tattoo from Danny for a very fair price. Both guys at the shop were very friendly and excited to tattoo. Danny did a great job of taking my idea and adding his ideas to make it an amazing work of art that I'm proud to wear forever. I'm 3 days post-session and it is healing way better than any other tattoo I've ever got. I'm not an expert but I imagine the smooth healing has something to do with Danny's technique and application. I will definitely be back next time I visit Kauai. read more

My husband and I came here to Kauai for our 10 year anniversary. We wanted to get similar tattoos but needed help with the design. Cory helped us come up with an idea and drew up our designs. He had some obstacles to work around, such as an existing tattoo and the script fitting on the areas we requested. He didn't stop until it was perfect. The results were beyond what we imagined. We are thrilled with the results!! We can't recommend Cory enough, he is so nice, knowledgeable, and funny. We had a great time hanging out with him and Danny today. Thank yo again! read more

Came here with my boyfriend and our good friend while we were vacationing on Kaua'i. They were both set on getting tattoos at the end of our trip but I waited until I saw the shop to make my final decision. When we arrived just Evan was there, but the shop is spacious and clean, with lots of the artists work for you to peruse. Once I saw our friends tattoo, I was confident that Evan really knew what he was doing. It was my first tattoo but he made sure I was fully informed, comfortable, and relaxed which was awesome. The tattoo itself took less than thirty minutes, so all in all it was maybe an hour long process with sketching and everything. Evan is very efficient, but obviously takes the time he needs to make sure you're satisfied with your tat. I really appreciate his kindness and patience with us goofballs. We all had a fantastic first tattoo experience thanks to him, and I would totally come back and get more of his work if I'm in town! Check this place out and you won't regret it! First time in Kauai, we wanted to get tattoos to represent our time on the island...Tried and True was recommended from a local woman and we decided to give it a try. My bestie and her daughter went first with similar tattoos...they were so beautifully done that I knew I would be back for mine. I haven't ventured out from my tattoo artist back home for over 15 years...Jason created an amazing sea turtle design with some representations of my children...our last day on the island we are going to get second tattoos just because Jason's work was so wonderful. Stopped by and talked with Danny for the consultation, who was awesome and informative. Got tattooed by Evan, and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. My family and I looked all around Kauai for a shop to get our tattoos at. My sister and I settled for this shop due to the awesome atmosphere and talented artist. Could not be happier with the outcome. This was my first tattoo and certainly not my last. Evan was the artist behind my tattoo and he was super cool and very professional. Had my mermaid done today by Cory, the owner of this shop. What a talented tattoo artist he is, beautiful work. It is 3/4 finished, and I love it! I have 7 other tattoos by Cory, highly professional and great business person. Just as an aside, I was in the shop when Sharri came in with her daughter, she wasn't very polite to the shop owner. I highly recommend this shop to all. Very easy to work with, very accommodating, talented, beautiful work!!! read more
