L'Affresco is a local Gastonomia (Gastronomy) that I came across completely by accident. When I…read morelooked up what Gastronomy meant (because at first it sounded to me like a mix between an illness and a science) I found that it really means : 1. the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food. the cookery of a particular area. At L'affresco you will eat really good Tuscan food. When I walked in it smelled like grandma's kitchen. NOw, I came here completely by chance because I was in the area and I was looking for an internet point and the two bars here in Piazza della Liberta' where I go for internet and a caffe' BOTH were having Wifi Technical problems ... so when I walked by L'Affresco (a place that I've walked by a thousand times) and saw an ILLY coffee sign, I thought hmmm where there is coffee, there could be WiFi and .... I was right! Wahooo FAst Wifi ... a rarity these days for me . When I walked into the back room where I plopped down my gear : computer, coats, purse etc. I thought wow this place is really cute, how come I've never came here before? It's so close to where I live and so I looked at all the vintage photographs of Firenze , famous people eating spaghetti ... this place is nice super cute. The two people behind the counter took my order right away and gave me the code for the wifi, very nice people! Even though I already ate lunch, after 20 minutes of seeing all the other customers around me with their amazingly looking/smelling food, I couldn't resist... Yuup ... I had a second lunch ; 0 Their food is so good, I highly recommend the ribollita or one of the lasagna dishes AND they have a bunch of fresh cooked veggies, bean soups, meats and cheeses, it all looks so good. If you don't eat meat, you can still put together a great meal here. The ribollita has no animal product and there are a ton of sides to put together all of which are animal free ; ) Yay !! If you are visiting Florence for the first time (or tenth) and want to taste some traditional Tuscan dishes, while you surf the web AND people watch in a place that is full of local Florentines pausing for a lunch break and catching up with friends ... L'Affresco's is your place.

Lots of outdoor seating, quick service despite only a few servers waiting on all the tables. Cons: Crowded indoors when getting food - the setup is a little inefficient, too narrow. Since they cannot provide warmers for each dish, most of the food was colder than I would have liked. Even some pizzas that we got immediately as they came out were not hot. However, the selection and low cost made up for this. One other thing - there are no labels on any food. Most of it is pretty easy to identify, but as a vegetarian, it was slightly annoying to guess whether or not something would have meat in it. I imagine for someone with allergies, this would be a bigger issue. Overall, great place for aperitivo. They are constantly switching out dishes. I went up for food twice, the second time probably half the dishes had been switched out for other ones, so it is a great way to try many things and sample. Yes, there are cheaper aperitivi in Bologna but the magnitude of Lab 16's is worth the extra few euros compared to other places.
