As parents we also love that we get to be involved so much, from volunteering in class, to being included in Friday Chapel, to helping with field trips and holiday activities, it's all amazing. I'm also very grateful for the school's success in instilling a strong moral compass, Christian values, and an understanding of Christianity. That was truly top-tier. That said, we've unenrolled and will be attending public school for the 2026-2027 school year, along with what I understand to be at least 100 other families. The primary reason is that the general sentiment is that the cost of tuition no longer matches the quality of education being provided. We've experienced tuition increases every year for the past 3-4 years, maybe even the last 5 years. This includes increases of 9%, 6%, 5%... There is no indication these increases are slowing down, yet the educational experience has not kept pace with what families should reasonably expect from such an expensive private school. Academically, students transitioning to public school have often been behind in math to the point that the school has since improved its math curriculum, starting this school year. That's great for future students, but for the tuition being charged, this should never have been an issue in the first place. The same can be said for Spanish. My oldest attended Legacy from K-4 and my youngest from K-2. They took Spanish every year, yet neither can speak or understand more than a few basic words. This seems to be common among students who are not already bilingual. After years of paying for Spanish instruction, there should be significantly more to show for it. There has also been a noticeable change in the school's culture since its partnership with Grace Community Church in Sunland (not to be confused with Grace Baptist here in SCV) and the increased involvement of The Master's University (TMU). Many families feel the school has become more business-oriented and that hiring increasingly favors individuals connected to Grace or TMU, creating a perception of nepotism. Security is another major concern. With more than 500 students across a K-12 campus consisting of multiple buildings, having only one security guard during school hours is simply inadequate. A campus of this size should have at least two guards to provide meaningful coverage. Then there's a lack of law enforcement experience with the guard for the last 2 years. When Legacy first implemented armed security, law-enforcement experience was mandatory. That standard has since changed, and the current guard does not have any kind of law-enforcement background and is limited to basic security experience. By comparison, Trinity Classical Academy has multiple guards on campus and their security personnel have law-enforcement backgrounds. For a school charging premium tuition, I believe that level of security should be the minimum expectation. Ultimately, the biggest issue is value. Going into 2026-2027, tuition for my two elementary-age children would have been $4,500 per month, before future increases. High school tuition is already around $3,000 per month per student, before future increases. At those prices, families should expect an exceptional academic experience, strong college preparation, and a robust security program that is consistent with a premium private school. Instead, many graduates are attending schools such as TMU or UC campuses. There is nothing wrong with those schools, but when Legacy presents itself as a premier, prestigious private Christian school and charges premium tuition, it is reasonable for parents to question whether the overall educational value and outcomes justify the price. Legacy does many things well--particularly its Christian foundation, teachers, and family involvement-- The question is no longer whether Legacy is a good school. The question is whether it is a $30,000-$50,000-per-year school. Based on our experience, we no longer believe it is.

If you are vocal about the quality of their staff or your child is being bullied, they will unenroll you through email and delete you like you never existed. My son went to this school for 5 years. We started in kindergarten and had a wonderful experience our first year. The next year we had a teacher who had no business teaching kids, even 1st graders. She was socially awkward and had no idea how to handle parents or children. I volunteered in that class weekly and let me tell you it was chaos. I had to speak to the dean about a couple situations and they blew me off and acted like I was the only one having problems. 4 other moms that I know of complained that year about that teacher and luckily she didn't return. The following year we got a new teacher and she seemed much better for it being her first year. However, there was a situation where she called my son a liar in front of the whole class over a prayer he requested and made him say it wasn't true before she would let it go. They never ended up praying for my son and his story wasn't a lie. I tried emailing her regarding it and even sent her the flyer for the program he was in and she refused to accept our story although what my son was saying was an accurate statement. That year changed him. She really destroyed his confidence and no one from the school seemed to care. We prayed for a better year in 3rd grade and again got a brand new teacher to the school who was awful to boys! Many of us complained and our sons cried most of the year. While they did not ask her to return to teaching the following year, they never checked on us or our kids after meeting with admin and just moved on. Several families did not return. I decided to give it one more year(I feel like a failure admitting that) hoping we could turn it around but in 4th grade while the teacher was great, my son started getting bullied. He had boys physically attack him multiple times. I would get notified with a text or email but nothing ever changed. After bringing it to the dean and admins attention after several incidents going unresolved, they unenrolled through email! Deleted us from the system as if we never existed! I was a mom who wanted the best education possible for my child and they failed us every turn! When I vocalized my displeasure, they in turn treated us like the disappointments. To unenroll a child in the middle of the year without once trying to make things right or meet with us regarding this situation shows a lack of empathy and quality of care that any person should be ashamed of let alone a Christian school. The craziest part, is I'm not the first family to be unenrolled in their school via email. They hide their failures and just try to pray us away. While my heart was originally broken, this school failed my son and sadly I allowed it to happen longer than a parent should have. My hesitation comes from the fact that there are many staff members at the school who care deeply about the children under their care. My son was enrolled at SCCS for four years, starting in Kindergarten, and my daughter went for two years through first grade. Kindergarten was a fantastic experience, but we began to hit trouble during his first-grade year. His teacher didn't seem to have a knack for teaching young kids - which was reflected when most of the class had fallen severely behind in their state testing. I kept quiet for the duration of the year, knowing that we click with every teacher, but could find value nonetheless. Then my son began to be physically hurt by another student in class and didn't have the emotional tools to speak up for himself. There were many documented reports from other staff members, yet the teacher and administration did not step in until I had to send more than one heavy-handed email. The next issue happened when he reached third grade. His teacher began to covertly tear down my son verbally. He would come home defeated, crying, and saying things like, "Please homeschool me - at least you'll be nice to me." I began a dialogue with the administration from the first sign of a problem. I was ignored and told that I was just a "busy parent" who didn't have an accurate read on the situation. When my son begged me not to send him to school, I decided to make a public statement that they could no longer ignore, insulate from, or sweep under the rug. When it was their reputation on the line, they paid attention. Instead of taking an introspective look at their staff, the administrators were simply angry that I had called them out. Even though there was an entire classroom of parents coming to them with concerns, they still took zero action. My daughter began to be bullied by a group of boys. She would react explosively to their teasing, and then she would get in trouble. While there was so much grace bestowed on those like my son's bully, or his problematic teacher, there was no grace for my daughter. I cried in the principal's office, asking them to acknowledge how much my neurodivergent daughter, who already struggles to fit in, had grown and matured rather than picking at every fault and flaw. The superintendent pressured my 7 year old, who was already devastated over her behavior, to "ask God for forgiveness for her sins." I've been a Christian for a long time, and the interaction was a bizarre one. We endured the rest of the year. The parents in the class triangulated against my daughter purposely leaving her out of social events. I was hoping that I could quietly bear the brunt of the burden, shielding her from the purely nasty, vindictive behavior of these so-called "adults." It wasn't until the last day of school that I experienced an explosive interaction with another parent. I was pulled into the principal's office. I cried, asking them to mediate the situation. I was assured that they had also had a heart to bring reconciliation, telling me how much they "loved my family." We were informed the following day that they had prayed about it, and my children would be promptly unenrolled. When pressed on the issue, they had no cause other than God had told them. I am still shaken to this day that the institution would side with adults who would go out of their way to bully a little girl. I'm bringing this to the light, so that hopefully no other families are hurt. It seems like they believe they hold some sort of divine authority, and there appears to be no checks and balances in place. From what I've seen, there is little regard for the emotional health and safety of the children under their care. If your family does not fit into their rigid box, you are not welcome. They talk a big game about "partnership" -- they want you to partner with them, but they will NOT partner with you.

The bigger dogs have a lot more room so this doesn't really impact them I would say. However, the shaded area with benches took up a good 60% of the small dog area. They left a huge drop off between where the "grass" ends and the benches begin, our dog is a rocket that will jump anything, however I have seen various other dogs struggle with the jump up from the concrete to the grass because of this. Not very well designed. Otherwise, overall this is a very nice park to walk in with plenty of open fields for sports.
