We went on a…read moreWednesday and despite showing up early the parking lot was already filling in steadily and the room was full when the event started. I can only imagine what it's like Christmas Eve or Day. The building is very large and modern, a vast difference from the Catholic churches I grew up in and Greek ones I've visited here and in Europe. As an artist I always appreciated how detailed they were, full of stained glass, statues, painted ceilings, stonework, candles, rows of pews, etc. Warm, dark, historic, holy feeling; you definitely knew you were in a place of worship. This, however, definitely gives me evangelical megachurch vibes, feeling more akin to my high school/college auditoriums. In fact I don't think I saw a single picture of Jesus, Mary/Joseph, saints, or apostles anywhere in the main areas we were kept to. Very unusual in my experiences at other churches with lots of iconography, but perhaps that's common at these kinds of nondenominational places? I understand though that a 'church' can be anywhere, and modern features and expectations will result in a different kind of venue. But hey that's just my preference. Catholics definitely have that graphic imagery beaten into them of a defeated looking Jesus on a cross statue with a bloody hole in his side, haha. The lobby is spacious with lots of seating areas and entrances to various other parts of the building. The theater room has two levels and sloped floors, providing everyone a good view of the stage. Two large screens are of either side, and were always changing views using the cameras situated around the room. The lighting was also very good too, and was timed well with the program. My only gripe was the audio, it was fine when the pastor was speaking or when one person was singing. But if the whole group on stage began to sing it seemed to become muddled and was perhaps just too much for the system? Maybe an instance like those I seem to encounter at too many music events where the urge to just make things louder doesn't necessarily make the experience better. Overall it was a nice event, especially involving the kids on stage to reenact the nativity, and passing out candles for the audience to light.

Then, they had Water day which was the best because you could go down 30 foot waterslides and on the last water day they brought In a foam truck. They still have Bible story though which was interesting. Finally, that was how Kidsfest ended up for me this year.

I'm going to talk about my experience here in hopes maybe it helps someone else. First, I am a member of Triumph. I just officially joined on Easter Sunday, but I had been going while I was dating my husband for a couple of years when I was in town. Triumph was actually one of the reasons we stayed in Pittsburgh when we had the opportunity to move away. It's like a home away from home. There are 2 Sunday services: 8:30 and 10 am. Facility - I like that there is ample parking spaces for all guests. When you arrive there is only one clear and visible place to enter and exit so you won't be flustered on trying to figure out where to go. There are typically greeters at the door. If you have any questions you can ask them. Pastor - Pastor Giles is probably one of the nicest men you will ever meet. And you can tell he is passionate about the Lord. He will be the first to tell you he's not perfect either because he is humble. I enjoy the Word coming from him too. Fellowship - l think the other members of Triumph are very nice and welcoming. In Pittsburgh it can be hard to find friends, and I feel like they welcomed me and took me in. Have you ever been to a church and try to sit somewhere and then someone tells you seats are saved, so you're just flustered trying to find somewhere anywhere to sit? Yeah, this isn't the place for that either. The people are nice. That's what I like . Kid Friendly - I don't have kids, but i wanted to make sure that if (or when) I did they would have a place to grow and learn about Christ. There are a lot of children and they're so cute and seem to get along so well. During church they will call for the kids to go to basically "children's church" so they can learn about God together. I personally like that. I plan on being more active down the line so I can definitely make updates or answer any questions. I'll post a pic or 2 when I go on Sunday.

Pros: Northway is a great church with many opportunities and ministries available for all ages. The…read moremusic is outstanding and services are transforming. Greeters and ushers are extremely welcoming and the prayer teams after service do a nice job. The safety team does a great job at protecting the campus at all times and I felt extremely safe going to Northway. Cons: The church statement and beliefs. Northway is a great church overall, but I confess we left extremely hurt. Everything was going well until we asked the Wexford campus pastor, Ryan Paskey to marry us. If you want to get married there, don't live together before marriage-my fiancée and I didn't realize this. We didn't know this was frowned upon with living together before marriage under the same roof. We were uneducated. Pastor Ryan refused to marry us unless we either (A.) moved the wedding date to the next week or (B.) he said we would have to move out of our home together, live apart and wait till our wedding date to move back in together. In addition to moving out, the Wexford Pastor said if we continued to live together, we both must resign immediately and give up our leadership positions within the church. There's a leadership covenant that you are expected to sign and we had no idea about this. This was never communicated till we approached the Wexford pastor. The last thing Paskey said that hurt the most was how the man needs to run the house and be in charge and women have 0 power and must be homemakers. Otherwise God was not present in our home. Remember that speech the Kansas City Chiefs kicker gave? That's what Northway believes and how the Wexford preacher spoke to us. Also, they don't remember you since it's a mega church and forget the new people. With all this being said, we stepped away and found a new church home thankfully. We were deeply hurt, confused, angry and disappointed. We believe God wasn't angry at us. We forgive pastor Ryan, but we highly disagree with the views he displayed. We felt compelled to write this review to prevent others from making the same mistakes we did. We will respect Northway, the staff and the people for who they are, but we highly disagree with the views and church statement of values. We wish them all the best moving forward. We just don't plan to attend there unless serious changes of modernization are made.

It was founded by several "mothers" and friends from a north side Episcopal Church who sensed a need for Episcopal presence in the "new" north hills due to "increasing population there because of the new Interstate 279. They took the risk and planted this inclusive worshipping community in Franklin Park. The church building itself is contemporary with lots of mobility and opportunities for creative worshipping and gathering space. There's an outdoor amphitheater for a variety of activities--an awesome 250 y/o tree protects this space as it offers a reminder to safeguard all gifts of nature and supports us as we do what we can to protect our environment and climate. We welcome all as neighbors and friends. We strive for inclusivity in all ways. We ordain all who are called by God as we welcome to active participation all couple ships and single persons and families. The worship band was wonderful and fun with an occasional rock and roll flare which appealed to my husband and my boys, with some tender moments that my soul was craving. But the highlight for me was the message. He probably doesn't know it, but Pastor Bill was speaking directly to me today with his discussion of Daniel. He preached about remaining in integrity and obedience in public as well as private, even when it's uncomfortable. He spoke about how God may not change our circumstances or our consequences for obedience but He is always faithful and He will never abandon us. Man I really needed that reassurance today and I appreciated all the biblical references between Thessalonians and Daniel. Everyone there was kind and friendly and I can tell that they are working hard in service for the community here. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Pittsburgh and I highly recommend you check them out also. Thank you Impact Church!
