This review is targeted at the business practices of CFHC. We have used CFHC for an elderly family…read moremember before and had satisfactory results with the health care provided. However, when I needed an office visit for a prescription refill consultation that the VA did not cover, I called and asked about the cost of the visit. I was told it would be about $50. I went, brought in all of my documentation/records, and the visit lasted about 15 minutes or less. No lab, no exam, no drugs, just history taken. I exited to pay my bill WITH CASH and they told me it was not ready yet and they would send it to me. The visit was in July. I received my first bill in September. I paid my bill one day after receiving it at the CFHC office. The bill was for $165 and the statement said it was 60-90 days over due. WTF? I called, waited for 25 minutes on hold and the bookkeeper told me 1) they should not have given me a price of $50 when I called, 2) their billing company sends out the bills two months later, 3) they work off of a sliding scale and it could be as high as $160 for a visit. I trusted these people from a previous experience with them billing Medicare, and so when I moved I tried them out instead of Merit who charged me $40 for the same thing (a mile down the road) when I moved to a new TINY town. So lessons to be noted: MAKE SURE you have a set price BEFORE you do business with these people. Bring in your proof of income because if you don't, they will charge you as much as they want to. Don't expect that they will even tell you how billing works--they did not tell me. If you don't have some sort of insurance and are not very low income, you could be paying about $660 an hour like I was charged. God only knows what they charged Medicare, and being a disabled veteran you can't bet on these folks to be very ethical or honest.
