I have been a fan of the Harrison Center for several years now after taking a walking tour of the…read morefacility. So, when I heard they had a pop-up shop for items, mostly made by artists at the Center, I made plans to attend. Located at 15th and Delaware, the Harrison Center consists of three buildings (including a gym and a church!). There is convenient parking in their lot accessible from 15th or 16th to the east of the Center. The pop-up shop is located in the City Gallery which is located on the west side of the southern most building. You may have to use the intercom to have them "buzz you in", but the wait is usually very brief. The shop/gallery is located on your left as you enter. There were a wide variety of items available though the shop is small. I saw ornaments, jewelry, and scarves. Soaps and postcards too! I also bought a calendar, a "paper doll" book that is more of a behind the scenes look at the Center than a real paper doll book. I also grabbed some coloring books and post cards. All that I picked up were affordable and reasonably priced. Truly unique too. The pop-up runs Monday-Friday through Dec 24th. Hours are from 9 to 5. Overpriced boutique with greedy owners that won't offer returns. They apparently have a small sign…read moreby the cash register that is not clearly visible with all the clutter on the counter and the employees dont tell you no returns either as they are more concerned with being on the phone then give you customer service. Sad when you have to ask for a bag and your items just get shoved into a cheap plastic bag. Typically around the holidays, most stores make exceptions to their return policies but not greedy sisters.... I like to shop small business but next time I'll stick with pottery barn and save my money and receive better customer service

Lux & Ivy is that store for those of us who love unique clothing and want other people to do the heavy lifting. I saw so many items that I loved (including some gold sandals), but I left with a long black skirt that had cork buttons running down it. See what I mean about unique?! It fit perfectly, and even better: It was 20% off! Even without the discount, the skirt (and the other thrifted clothing on the racks) were priced reasonably. Lux & Ivy offers not just clothing and shoes, but also jewelry made by local artists, beauty products, vintage home goods, bags and lots more. The store is cute and smells good, the clothing and products are all arranged nicely, and it's just a pleasant place to shop.

This Japanese Pop Up ends on September 1st, 2019, so try it while it's there! The portion of the ramen is very small for $12 a bowl even though I ordered a large; it took 3 bites for me to finish the entire bowl. The broth was clear and refreshing, but it would be nice to have a little more flavor or salty to bring out the taste more. In the ramen had a slice of pork belly, egg, one small piece of seaweed and radish. It's nice that this museum has different pop ups every month that also brings the culture's food for people to try, but wouldn't go here just for food.

Though I still like the idea of celebrating the cooking arts and their connection to specific cultures/countries around the world, I felt this one was a step down from commitment that the first two pop ups had. If you read the promotional information on the Newfield's website, it describes a "diner" and seems to promote a certain connection to "americana". But because of the open spacing and surrounding environment, there is none of the intimacy of a diner here. No aromas of fresh baked pies. There wasn't the commitment to the aesthetic as in the earlier pop ups. And frankly, the American Apple Pie wasn't my favorite. Too much spice (I smelled the nutmeg before taking a bite) and not enough sweetness to make me reminisce of days gone by. Fortunately, the scoop of vanilla ice cream added just enough sweetness to balance out the savory. And the bottomless cup of coffee was really good: full flavor, no bitterness, and served ready to drink. They also have other sweet pies, three savory pies, some gluten free and vegan options, and milk shakes (with and without booze). Understand before you go here that this is a fund raising event for the museum. So don't complain about prices because this isn't a regular business. The prices are clearly listed, so if you think it cost too much, that's your own fault for not preparing. Know that you have to pay for admission to the museum to be able to dine at the pop up as well. But once you pay, you can explore all the exhibits before or after dining here (including the outdoor gardens.) This pop up will be open through May 24th, 2020. Rev. #52
