Don't waste your time. Too small, too expensive, unreasonable hours of operation if you work.

**Birthday Party Review**…read more I was pleasantly surprised! The instructor and his helper were very involved with the 3-6 year olds. They taught the kids some different moves which the kids all loved. They had the kids do some stretches first which I thought was cute. Then the kids had snacks and cake. The cake cutting is really cool (kind of scary too). The instructor helps the birthday kid hold a Samurai sword to make the 1st cut. Then the kids break boards and the instructor writes their name on it. Then they do a pinata and the instructor has a ton of extra candy for the kids so everyone gets a lunch. Goodie Bags are included too. There is plenty of party here and the place is well lit with a lot of natural light. No hats or shoes allowed in the studio which has a mirrored wall.

Last night, we got an email from Master Mast telling us that ATL UTKD is now on Yelp. I told my…read more5-year-old daughter, who has been a student there for nearly a year. After explaining to her what Yelp is, she instructed me, "GO ON THERE AND GIVE MASTER MAST 100 STARS!!" I explained to her that 5 stars is the highest possible rating, and she was not pleased, as 5 is apparently not enough stars. I could not agree more. Master Mast is, from an observer's perspective, an outstanding teacher. He has a way with his students, be they 4 years old (as my daughter was when she started) or full-grown adults (as are many in the school). My daughter loves going to class and has learned a lot about Tae Kwon Do as well as about herself. I am consistently impressed at the confidence and self-discipline she shows in class. And, as a parent, it is hard not to be proud of someone accomplishing such things. But, I have to say also that it is hard not to give a great deal of the credit to Master Mast, as well as my daughter. Master Mast's ability to be stern, clear, confident and direct while also approachable, friendly, and engaging with the students is remarkable. My daughter often suffers from a fear of failing. But, in his class, she tries everything and actually enjoys being pushed to do her best while also improving. Here's an example. During her first color belt test, she was asked to break boards with her punches and kicks. She had never seen anyone else do it and was clearly afraid. After a few attempts, Master Mast let her go without having to break them. But, he said to her, "don't worry, we'll get them broken." The next day, in class, one of the first things he did was bring out those boards again, and, with the confidence of having passed her test, she broke them on the first try. So, the bottom line is, this school is outstanding, and though I'm not a student there, I can see how thrilled the students are. My daughter usually attends three days a week, but recently, upon learning there is a fourth class she can attend (the Saturday family class), she has begun to insist that we take her four times a week. We will do so happily! So, take it from her, 5 stars are not enough.

I was training here for about 2-3 years and loved it. If you're serious about martial arts and…read morelike the idea of training in several different styles, this is the best place in the area. Sifu Alan is an intelligent, supportive, and skilled instructor. His staff are qualified professionals, and their kid programs are great without interfering with the adult classes. They have a super flexible schedule and several different levels of membership. Some might quibble that they're pricey, but you are getting what you pay for. The facility is gorgeous, and everyone there is very positive. I know I sound like a bit of a tool for saying this, but you really do get a sense of belonging while being active there. I'd encourage you to try a demo class of each of the different styles. My favorites were Jeet Kun Do and Kung Fu. As a side note, they are one of the only places in the country to teach the Keysi Fighting Method, and if you are looking for realistic combat training against multiple opponents, this is your best bet.

AMAC is more than a place to learn martial arts; it is a new found family. As a "newb" to the world…read moreof martial arts I was very intimidated to sign up, however. Let me assure you these guys and gals welcome you with open arms. I have met some of the nicest and knowledgeable people at AMAC. If you have a question, they have an answer. Any time a student is having a hard time understanding or performing, they go out of their way to assist until you have eliminated your weakness. I personally love the fact that the staff, including Sifu, will take the time to call and check on you if you have been missing class. They really do care and this is what it takes for a leader to ensure your success. AMAC truly is an ego-free environment providing the best martial arts training. If you are willing to apply yourself, you are guaranteed to succeed and the staff/senior students will make sure you do no matter what it takes. I can personally recall multiple times that I have been training and senior students drop everything they are doing in order to correct my flaws. I feel honored to be a part of AMAC.

I have a full time job, so I try to make at least 2 classes a week, & practice at home as much as I can. It takes some dedication and appreciation for learning, but it has been really fun being able to tell people I'm learning the sword over the past year. The instructors are absolutely amazing, and each of them have their own way of pointing out how to get better in an encouraging way. The class is fairly small usually, so getting personal attention is pretty regular. I would totally recommend learning some basic Japanese before starting if you can help it (numbers 1-10 for sure, basic directions like right and left, and check out shinkendo.com for some other vocab & general info). Get the book that they recommend immediately - it's helpful for reference. Overall, I'm super happy I ended up here & looking forward to continuing my training!

Most importantly, the bjj classes aren't huge but there are still quite a few folks in every one. 5) The support staff was welcoming and friendly from the time I walked up til now. There are quite a few folks that I've talked with who are much more experienced and skilled (in bjj) than I am and they give the place a thumbs up.

Having trained at multiple gyms in New York and now in San Francisco over the last 5 years, I wasn't sure what to expect walking into Tsunami, but I was pleasantly surprised! First, the gym/mats/locker rooms are all clean and in great shape (just to get that out of the way). The class size was around 12-15 students and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Mohammad is an active and accomplished competitive grappler, and as such, he is the exact type of instructor that you would want to learn from if you're trying to progress rapidly in this sport. He observes all his students and takes time to give everyone something they can adjust or work on to improve their game. It's a testament to his character and the kind of instructor he is that he would take the time to watch me roll and give me personalized advice while knowing that there was no chance of me becoming a regular student in his class. You can tell he enjoys what he's doing 100% and genuinely wants to help you improve. I rolled with a few of the other students and after chatting with them afterwards, I was consistently surprised by how little they said they've trained because they were honestly some of the most well-rounded 'beginners' I've come across. Solid students, solid class, solid instructor, and everyone trained safely. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my home gym.
