Great concept, very unethical business practices. I wish I could have stayed as it seems it would have been a great way to get in shape and join a community, but it's not worth it. They'll start you off with $180/month but have a clause in the contract that gives them the right to charge you $1000/month without your consent. That is ridiculous! I called to get this situation rectified and to get this clause out of the contact (that I didn't even know I was signing--they generate a signature to contracts without your consent), but the owner never responded. This place is a hidden gem. First off all, it really is hidden. If you don't know to look for it, you'll drive right past. Once you turn into the parking lot, the gym is down a hidden stairway on the left. As a member, you have a choice to sign up for boxing, strength & conditioning, Muay Thai, kickboxing, or jiu jitsu classes. The trainers push you hard, in the best way. By and large, they move around the room keeping an eye on everyone...making form corrections and gently encouraging to push yourself further. They are accepting of members of all shapes and sizes, and seem to take in consideration the physical and strength abilities of each individual. There is a great variety of DBs, KBs, BBs, and cardio machines (much bought in the past year) to use on your own and on your own timetable, if you choose. You also have the option to take classes at any of the other five locations, for added variety. The Sandy Springs location has the added bonus of having a dry sauna for post-workout "cooldown". The truth is that I have gym at home with much of the equipment found here, but I will never be able to get the results I get by coming to this gym. Having a trainer (most have been there several years) to push you past your preconceived limits is priceless. Add to that a great group of other participants (all on various journeys of their own) to offer additional encouraging words or fist bumps. I feel that the monthly fee is pricey, but I believe it's still in line with what most other gyms of this type charge. And the fact that they have continued to purchase new equipment (small and large), shows that they are willing to continuously invest in what they have to offer. Ultimately, Team Octopus - Sandy Springs has become a home-away-from-home. I, regularly, look forward to seeing the trainers and my new friends there...and to seeing the physical and mental limits that I'm able to push (or be pushed) past. After some soul-searching, I decided recently that there was no better investment than my physical, mental, and emotional well-being, and purchased a lifetime membership. Team Octopus is an amazing gym with incredibly helpful, friendly, and supportive staff and coaches. I signed up for their 28 day challenge after seeing an ad on Facebook, and it was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. The challenge is to lose 4% body fat or 18 lbs in 28 days. They provide you with unlimited gym access to any and all their classes at any of the locations, a meal plan, an accountability coach, and weekly weigh ins. All this for a $398 deposit that you get back if you succeed. When I initially signed up, I thought there was no way this was possible. I also thought I was going to end up being miserable and regretted my impulse decision to put down $400 on a crazy challenge. As someone who is active and goes to the gym 5-6 days a week, losing weight and body fat has always been hard for me. Until I found this gym. I lost 9 lbs and 5.6% body fat doing this challenge. That being said, these classes and coaches are incredible. Each class is unique to each instructor. You'll find ones you'll like more than others, and each have their own style. They all push you though. They get to know you on a personal level and actually care about your success. Every class incorporates upper body, lower body, core, and cardio exercises somehow. They have many different class times and instructors for you to choose from as well. In addition to the amazing staff and classes, the facility is also really clean and includes a weight lifting area and sauna! There's free lockers, shower, and bathroom as well. First day workout on 3.2 and went to do a weigh in get my picture taken and go over my meal plan. Your plan is designed just for you based on your weight and body fat. I did the kick boxing class and it was amazing. I recommend doing this class. All the workers and trainers are very friendly and there to help you. I've never been into high intensity, contact-like sports, including boxing or kickboxing, but under (gentle) pressure from my wife, we both joined the 6-week challenge at the Sandy Springs location. The inside of the gym is very spacious, though it may be difficult to find the location while driving by on Roswell Road. The entrance is down a steep path of stairs, where you are greeted by a giant mural of an octopus. The employees were always very, very kind and helpful with us and they instructed us on the do's and don'ts of the gym and of the classes. The 6-week challenge promises to help members lose either 6% of their body fat or 25 pounds within that time frame. They offer nutritional guidance and a coach who calls regularly to ensure you show up to the gym at a minimum of 3 times a week. While I definitely enjoyed myself and the classes, unfortunately due to an injury we could no longer attend. Team Octopus worked with us through-and-through ensuring that we were satisfied and that we received a partial refund due to the circumstance. Nothing but rave reviews on a business that stands by their word and works with their members, especially considering gyms are notorious for not. I truly enjoy the classes, the coaches, and the people along side me working out. Let's talk about variety - this place has it all! Strength and conditioning, kickboxing (cardio), boxing, aerial silks, and this location specifically has a sauna. The other location in Chamblee has a more crossfit based strength and conditioning there are more options at other locations, but that's pretty much what I do. There is no just a variety in activities/work out styles, but variety in coaches as well. We all have our favorites lol but all the coaches are laid back and open to answer questions. Never heard of a gym who threatens to send me to collections because I moved out of the area for a new job and I want to cancel my membership. Sad that this gym ends up being like this after having my friends join Team Octopus too because I raved about it so much. Great coaches... horrible system. You would think they would care about their customers when I relocated for work and there's nothing I can do but be forced to pay $300 or go to collections. wow I am truly shocked at the level of unprofessional and unethical business behavior this gym turned out to have. I had a membership paid through my job and I attended for a while. I called to cancel in december of 2021 to the actual Gym and was sent on a roller coaster ride for how to cancel membership. I paid January membership and again called to make sure my membership would be cancelled, I sent an email request as they wanted but they insisted I pay the fee to put my membership on hold instead of cancel it. I was travelling abroad and there was no need for the membership anymore because i wasnt sure how long i would be gone for and away from the gym when i returned. i have received a bill for $644.00 im assuming from february to current. what a joke. I will let any employee i work with who attends this gym know and i hope they find membership elsewhere because this is just theft at this point. read more

We love Team Octopus! We have been members for 3 years and always have the best experience when we come in. I enjoy the kickboxing classes and my 17 year old son loves Jiu Jitsu with Coach G. My two sons (13 and 17) and I train with Dave Vitkay every week. He is the best! He is very encouraging, knowledgeable about nutrition, and is great at mixing up the exercises during the training sessions. Personally, I can tell a big difference in my energy level and my overall strength. Working out regularly has been a very positive experience for my sons. They love to go to the gym and they are exhausted after every workout. The gym is very clean and they always check temps when we come in. read more

OVERVIEW: So I am not sure if I am the best person to write a review for this kind of enterprise since I don't have a lot of experience with gyms, memberships, or the pricing of their related services. More to that point, this is only the second such institution that I have ever belonged to and the first one could perhaps be categorized as something that looked like it came out of a Rocky movie. Accordingly, I am not sure how much perspective I can provide when it comes to the quality of the facilities--as those kind of assessments are all going to be relative to the individual and your personal expectations--but to me the provided amenities and the inclusion of niceties like a sauna seem rather plush and upscale. Furthermore, I greatly appreciate the high degree of cleanliness that is exhibited on the premises, and how well everything seems to be taken care of. STAFF: Accoutrements aside, by far the best feature that Team Octopus seems to offer their customers is their staff. Admittedly, I cannot comment directly as to the quality of their trainers in areas outside of boxing, but so far my experience with their personnel has been nothing short of exemplary. As someone that came into this pathetically out of shape: I appreciate the fact that they encourage you to push yourself but rarely if ever come across as harsh or overbearing. Furthermore, the variety in drills helps to keep the classes fresh and interesting, and the recent addition of some the staff members like Bryan and Alex from Delgado Boxing (where I was a member until they regrettably closed) has definitely contributed to the overall feeling of professionalism. Beyond that, going to the facility kind of reminds me of Cheers, in that it seems like everyone there knows your name and greets you cordially every time you show up for class. It is such a small thing but it just makes you feel like you belong and like they value you as a customer and individual. Again as someone that feels more out of shape: I greatly appreciate that since it makes the prospect of going to a gym seem less daunting and more friendly and welcoming. EFFECTIVENESS OF PROGRAMS: When I originally started to take up boxing at Delgado's I had allowed myself to balloon up to a ludicrously unhealthy 354lbs. I had never thought that I would ever get that heavy but when I was told how much I weighed... well I knew something had to change. Accordingly after leaving the doctor's office I drove to Delgado's boxing and enrolled for membership that very afternoon. Since then, using a concentrated one-punch of diet and exercise, I have managed to drop 88.2lbs or almost exactly 25% of my body weight in a period of 129 days; as I weighed in at 265.8lbs this morning. Perhaps more importantly, with the help and guidance of staff members at both Delgado's Boxing and Team Octopus, I have done it in a healthy way. I will not say that these types of results are typical, but I will say that if your goal is to get in better shape that boxing can definitely help you to achieve that. That said, I did struggle with the classes at first due to how fat I was. In fact, I basically felt like I could not keep up with the rest of the class and as such I spent a lot of the first two months just walking around my neighborhood and surrounding area just to get to the point that I could handle a full session. In spite of this, every time I did come in for a particular course the trainers always encouraged me to stay, go at my own pace, and perhaps most importantly breathe. Through a lot of time and dedication both in and out of the gym now I can attend any course and make it through the whole thing. I am almost the sweatiest one there admittedly, but I can make it now and that in and of itself feels like an accomplishment in and of itself. VALUE: I can't really comment on this too much since I don't know much about what other gyms charge, but to me--given the quality of the facilities and the staff--the prices seem incredibly reasonable. Assuming you go to one program a day with one day off as a rest day: it works out to something around $3 per a class... which really is not that bad. Additionally I do appreciate that they offer non-contract based options and a free trial week as well as loaner gear. If you are considering joining and are not sure how much you are going to like it: it is nice that they provide that have those kinds of option. CRITICISMS: My only real critique is that I wish there was a more technically oriented boxing courses available. As it is, all of the courses are primarily focused on cardio-boxing style training, but I suppose they do offer private lessons (at an additional cost) if you want that. Additional boxing classes would be welcome as well, but they seem to be adjusting their schedule currently as some of the staff members from Delgado's boxing transition over. read more

I can't even imagine why in the 21st century a gym that is 100% legit and has good classes taught by good instructors that will make you sweat feels the need for scummy sales tactics more befitting a used car dealership. $100-150 "registration fee"? Hard push for annual contracts? "free" fitness challenge that's not really free? And to top it off, an "annual fee" snuck in???? Why why why? This gym has a good service, with fitness, boxing, bjj all under one roof, it would have been a good value at a normal month-to-month rate of $150 per month with no scummy contracts, but all these things leave an awful aftertaste when dealing with the gym. read more

Not necessarily a bad place, but bad business practices. Unfortunately they have a long-term contract that has a substantial penalty(even if u complete the initial year). I paid my final balance by check and cancelled their ability to debit my credit card (thank goodness). They called and claimed I didn't pay. I had to send them the cancelled check. I love Team Octopus! The instructors are top-notch: skilled, friendly, and approachable. I have taken the Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes at this location. There are tons of classes everyday - morning, afternoon, and evening. Whether your goal is to lose weight, get faster / stronger, or learn new skills, you are bound to find a class for you. Kickboxing - Kickboxing is suited for those who want to lose weight or get fit. There isn't as much focus on technique or skill as the other classes. Each class is a mix of intense cardio and strength exercises. There are a few different instructors depending on the day and time. If you want a challenge, try JB's class. He has the most difficult, but most rewarding kickboxing class of all the Team Octopus locations. He is extremely encouraging and pushes you to your limits. Every workout with him is different, so you never get bored. Muay Thai - Muay Thai is a striking martial art suited for those who want to learn new skills (for self-defense or competition), but weight loss and improved fitness are some positive side effects. It is usually less intensive than kickboxing, because there is more time spent on learning and drilling technique. Gary Brown is a superb instructor. He has a lot of experience and explains the reasons behind each movement - "We do this, because...", "If you do this, it would lead to...", etc. It helps you actually apply techniques in a given scenario. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling martial art suited for those who want to learn new skills (for self-defense or competition), but practice naturally incorporates cardio and strength (more strength than the other technique classes in my opinion). There are both kid and adult classes available. These are my favorite classes to attend, because you don't even realize how hard you're working out. As you learn and build your internal database of techniques, the class turns into a combination of a workout and problem-solving. Gui is the primary instructor at this location, and he is amazing! I always recommend Team Octopus new joiners to try his class, because he is great at teaching beginners. He explains the small details that other instructors tend to glaze over, which helps build a strong foundation for your basic techniques. Overall, everyone in BJJ has been friendly and welcoming to the new joiners. You will end up being part of a huge family. I think the pricing is average for the Atlanta market of MMA gyms. They have detailed pricing for different programs available on their website. The Kickboxing ONLY program is the cheapest, and the combination of all programs is the most expensive. I suggest a free trial week to decide what programs you enjoy the most. read more

I did the 28 day challenge challenge and I'm a current member here as well. I lost 10.8 pounds and 4.9% body fat in the challenge. My experience here has been very positive. Jose Santiago, Jesus Portilla (Boxing), and Terry Kim (Kickboxing) are outstanding coaches whom pushed me mentally and physically. Technique was very important for all of these coaches. Not only will you get in the best shape of your life you're learning the techniques of boxing and kickboxing. All the coaches would stop you if your technique needed some adjustments. The layout of the gym is great as well. The showers and bathrooms are always clean. I would highly recommend this gym. Workouts might be great but good luck if you ever plan on cancelling your membership. I've called and emailed over 10 times in a week to cancel. I've gone in the studio in person and "the person who handles these issues" is never there. It wasn't until I went public in posting a review that they finally called and emailed me back a week later. They told me only 1 person can cancel the membership and she had no idea about my requests and then proceeded to ask that I take down my bad review. I have an email from her and a contract that states I will not be charged again. Yet I am still getting charged for a monthly membership. Reached back out about it and they haven't responded to that yet either. This is the most unethical gym I've ever been to and so sad because the coaches are great. read more

I had never boxed a day in my life before March of this year. Coaches Jesus and Joe are awesome and the reason I take the boxing class at Team Octopus regularly. It can be intimidating to start something new like this but they are accommodating, encouraging, and take the time to teach beginners while continuing to educate and train the more experienced members. My life changed by saying yes to a 4 week challenge at Team Octopus in Sandy Springs. I was skeptical and did not believe things they publicized, especially when they said their gym has a family like relationship and feel. I was also unsure if I'd lose weight because everything else I tried I would basically yo-yo with minimal results and then fluctuations in weight. Between the accountability, encouragement and positive reinforcements at Team O in 4 weeks I lost 10.4 pounds and 3.3% body fat. My husband lost 11.9 pounds and 5.8% body fat! I am motivated to continue until I reach my ultimate goal! Billy who signed us up was always a breath of fresh air and encouragement... Jahmar is the best kickboxing instructor ever who really works with you and modifies moves as necessary especially since I get nacreous with floor exercises. He is super attentive and you can tell he genuinely cares. I owe much of my success to him because he not only pushed me but helped to to find alternatives so I can succeed! I make it a point to take his classes because I get the quality teaching I need to succeed!......Meghan gave me the best motivational talk when I thought I would not hit my goal and helped me to realize how much I accomplished and that I did not break stride in my meal plan for 28 days and also was in the gym almost 5 days every week......her boxing workout also made me throw up but she makes you want to keep going.....
