Good coffee and service. Not exactly a prime location but away from the sales bustle it's pretty pleasant. Definitely worth a visit.

You really cannot purchase anything close to the quality of a Cornish pasty outside of Cornwell…read more It's a real treat to bite into that thick golden pastry, hit a steak deposit. Have your tonsils tickled by the black pepper and enjoy the silken smooth texture of the Potato and carrot. Best enjoyed from a paper bag whilst relaxing on a beach after a swim or surf, casually looking out over the Atlantic ocean, waves crashing. For the ultimate experience you should get up early and hit the Pasty shop as the golden bastards are transferred fresh from the oven to the counter. But equally looking in your bag for a pasty at the end of hard day hiking the coastal paths, which has had time to vintage much like a bottle of fine wine, find a rock and recharge on this special eat. There's quite a history behind the humble pasty and I'd like to share with you a story that's stuck with me since I was a child. The pasty came about as with all wonderful inventions due to necessity, the Cornish tin industry would see men and boys sent underground to work tirelessly, and the family's of the miners came up with the Cornish Pasty. You see as with most mining the fella's under the earth would be covered in dirt, the metal deposit and general grime from a career, deep, deep down in the ground. That crunchy plait we know and love today, on the side of the pasty, never used to be the Shangri la of pastry (as you call it) with its delicious golden exterior and doughy pale core. It was functional, so the miners could hold the hallowed pasty without covering the main event in soot and crud. It was then discarded, so legend tells to the Knockers, whom Cornish folklore describe as little creatures who lived in the tin mines and seemingly enjoyed eating pastry covered in crap. If the Knockers weren't given their sacrificial pastry crusts, strange noises would be heard in the mines, sometimes a knocking noise, and if ignored, the miners believed they were in danger of shaft collapse (a fear men carry to this very day). The fair partners of these stoic Cornish miners would also pack into one end of their pasty's a sweet treat, stewed apples or a blob of jam. Desert if you will, wrapped up in the generous fold of pastry, brushed with butter and baked for their loved ones. And here we find Cousin jacks, Bondi Junction paved Mall. You caught my eye as I passed you, I am a sceptic, (see opening lines) however Cousin Jacks I was not disappointed in your traditional Cornish pasty (although I would like to sweep your counters clear of all the other pretender pasties you offer, and I'll only look sideways at your vegetarian offering with a stress induced tick in the corner of my eye, what would the Knockers say!) you've achieved something where many have previously tried and failed. You've made the best traditional Cornish Pasty, I've tasted outside the secret corners of old granite villages in deepest Cornwall, no mean feat. It even has that sweet desert at the end. Grab a couple on your way to the beach, Cousin Jacks traditional Cornish pasties, I highly recommend.

From the outside this place doesn't look anything special but once you walk inside its very big and spacious. The cafe has a very homely feel to it and the cafe has two separate rooms and an outdoor eating area. The rooms are full of paintings that I think are also for sale, will need to look closer next time. I ordered the soup as I wasn't too hungry but just wanted to sample something from the menu. The soup special was vegtable which was jam packed with kidney beans and capsicums and celery. It was tasty and came with a side of cheesy toast. Yum yum. This is a new place and talked to the owners Dustin and Carolyn who seemed very nice and told me they serve scones fresh everyday. I wanted one but unfortunately they were all sold out for the day. They also do week day specials of burgers for $10 which includes a drink and a breakfast fry. I'm definitely keen to find out how the scones taste. Nice place and will definitely visit again to explore the menu more.

The decor is classy - I love their tables!! The walls are full of beautiful art - for sale by various artists. And on Mondays, they have a weekly market with stalls from various small businesses and vendors called Monday Markets. Try the amazing cupcakes made by Maria - they are divine!! My son couldn't stop asking for more!! ;) This place is a hidden gem. Once you discover it, you won't want to go anywhere else!

Public has been renovated in the last 6 months, I never took any note prior to the renos, but it sure looks flash now. The decor is quite on trend, bare brick and chalk boards (are they serving drinks in jars? I didn't notice to be honest). The coffee is tasty good and I want to marry their breakfast bruschetta. It's a little disappointing to receive the Bircher in The same plastic takeaway cup if you're dining in but maybe it's because they know they are super generous and you'll want to take your leftovers away with you. Being on the street out the front of Westfields, it can feel a bit like a wind tunnel inside the cafe, but if you are lucky enough to score a seat along the back wall, you'll be sweet. There is outdoor seating with gas heaters as well as some inside/outside seats (outside the cafe but inside the westfields). ***nil payment was received from westfields for mentioning their name so often ***

I have walked past this busy cafe numerous times before on my way to the Prince Of Wales Hospital…read morein Randwick. There are always cues of people waiting for the freshly roasted coffees and delicious cakes and muffins. I was always put off from going inside because the cafe is small in size and usually there are no free tables. However, last week around 10am, I spied a free table inside. There are also tables outside if you prefer that sort of thing. I have finally found a new breakfast place to hang out at and it also serves my breakfast favourite - Corn Fritters, Avo Smash and Tomato Salsa. ($13.50) I've been on the hunt at many a breakfast cafe looking for the best Corn Fritters and this is the winner! The dish comes out presented as if it was featured in a MKR episode. I devoured it and wanted more, that's how good it was. The coffees are generous in size and tasted full bodied and the creamer delightful. There are plenty of other healthy breakfast options starting with Muesli served with Yogurt and Apple Sticks or Granola with Berries, Grapefruit and Yogurt ($9) On the egg side of things, plain poached, scrambled or fried eggs served with Sourdough ($10) Fancier breakfast choices such as Goat's Cheese and Basil Scrambled Eggs ($13) or Poached Eggs with Smashed Avocado and Caramelised Tomatoes ($14) and the must try Spicy Chipotle Scrambled Eggs with Sour Cream and Coriander ($13) An Egg and Bacon Panini with Spicy Roast Tomato Mayo ($9.50), but if you start adding on items, it gets a bit expensive. Extras cost: one extra egg $3, tomato $3, avocado $4, bacon $5, smoked salmon $6. Your choice. Salads are available after 11am. Tuna Salad with beans, olives, Fetta and a softly boiled egg ($14) Chicken Salad with Avocado, grapefruit, Parmesan and Pistachios ($15) Roast Butternut and Quinoa with Fetta, olives and Pesto ($13.50) Also soups available as well. An array of coffee beans to choose from for your daily cuppa - and if you still have room, add some muffins, cake or pastry to your order. The place is crowded (you can see why), a bit over priced- but I don't care and it is easily the best new cafe in Randwick. I can feel another breakfast coming on now.
