Troila home renovations did a great job with my bathroom remodel. Mike the owner was very personable and got our renovation done quickly. It came out better than I envisioned. I highly recommend and will be utilizing their services in the future!

I'm sadly updating my recent five-star review. My apologies for the length of this review, I needed to be detailed to establish why we are so frustrated with our situation, and why I felt the review with fewer stars was warranted. I will continue to maintain that Mike's work is very high quality, our new kitchen is very beautiful and well-built, however, clients better hope they don't have any issues that require follow-up once he considers the job done. When we discussed the bathroom design process, we decided to replace the existing shower/tub combo with a smaller shower stall. This left a space between the tub and wall. Mike indicated he could put a "nice closet" in that space. Clearly there was miscommunication somewhere, because it didn't include a door, and as a "closet", we were expecting it to, especially since it was going to be used as storage, and having exposed toiletries is not ideal. We hesitated to say anything, but ultimately approached Mike, since it was going to be an issue for us. He indicated that he could build us a custom door. Not wanting to inconvenience him, and recognizing the lack of understanding could have been on our end, we paid $260 to have one special ordered, so that he would only have to install it, not build it, too. After not hearing from him at all, on the third week, we attempted to reach Mike via text several times simply to understand his time frame, so that we could plan being home accordingly. He would respond back, a few days later, with a "reason" for not contacting us back each time. would certainly explain his reluctance to come back. He did pin down a weekend date, June 3rd, which was last weekend. My husband nicely offered to buy Mike's team lunch for coming back out, recognizing working on a weekend is not desirable, and had fully intended to pay him for the work. My husband attempted to confirm with him Friday and Saturday of last week, with no luck, so he called Sunday morning, the day he was expected to come. His wife answered the phone with "Who's calling?" My husband identified himself and she put Mike on the phone. Mike indicated he was having car troubles, and would likely be here by 10, and left it at that. We waited around until noon. Again, no show, and no call, which showed a complete lack of respect for our time. My husband called at noon to check in, now knowing full well he wasn't intending on coming that day. He received a text back from his wife, who said they "Can't carry on without a truck. Sorry." Nothing about rescheduling. My husband, who is a very even-keeled guy is now unhappy, and asked them to pick another date. They said "June 10th?", and my husband confirmed that would work for us, and asked them to contact us if anything changed, and they couldn't make it. June 10th is today. Not surprisingly, they have not shown up. We asked them if they minded coming early because we have an afternoon commitment. In the past, they had been here by 9 at the very latest. It's now 10:30, and we have received no phone call or message letting us know not to expect them. I think it's safe to assume they are not coming, and the lack of communication is inexcusable. We will make other arrangements with a different contractor, since they have proven to be unreliable on several occasions, and are very clearly disregarding us. If he doesn't want to finish the job, stand behind his word, or make sure things are copacetic, that is his choice, but should understand that it reflects poorly on his business. I would have preferred honesty to excuses, so we could have at least known where things stood and made other arrangements sooner. He readily returned calls when he first had our business. His wife asked me (on several occasions) to please write a review if we were happy with the work, and I did, without hesitation. I hope she understands that feedback works both ways, and that it's not just about the work, but how you treat your clients as well. We didn't appreciate, understand, or deserve the lack of common courtesy. We had recommended several friends to contact them for significant home renovations, but now longer feel comfortable doing so.

His subcontractor said, upon finishing screwing in the dry wall: "Well, I have to go home to look up mudding on youtube. I've never done it before." I'm sure the visible straight line trowel marks on the ceiling are elsewhere in the house, but I can't find them. Excellent work! As for the job of putting mortar between the tile and shower enclosure to give the the caulking something to adhere to [our shower pan was installed incorrectly, and they cut the lip off to fit it in the bathroom, causing a leaking problem], the caulking job lasted six weeks! Hooray! When I removed the old caulk to re-do it, my spatula went into the wall all the way in various places around the shower enclosure. I recaulked it without incident, but didn't put more mortar behind it. At $413 for the job, we paid $68 per week for no leaks! A bargain, I'm sure.

I also had the experience like others stated in their complaints of constant excuses why they can not do the job at the times they were supposed to due to Accidents, hospitals, illnesses, I heard them all! Then after all my aggravation as a customer trying to get an answer, they said they would finish the project and then we could review what I might have coming back to me from my deposit since we were not happy! Of course they said due to changes in the proposed project, the total due was a little more than my deposit, but they would call it even at that point! I am still waiting to pick up the debris several weeks after they finished that st project! After several promises to come and pick it up which they never did, they will not respond to any of my emails! Worst of all, I just found out the stairs are not built to code , so I have to pay someone else to take them down and build new ones! That is what I got for my $920! Nothing but aggravation! In August, we signed a contract and I put down 50% to begin work. He came in and ripped out my old bathroom down to the studs and then just stopped showing up for days or even weeks at a time. Every week he made promises about returning to work, every week he failed to show, giving me lie after lie after lie, until after 2 months had passed with no bathroom, he told me that he would not do any more work until I gave him more money. When I said no, he refused to come back and stopped talking to me - leaving this space in my bedroom that not only had no floor (or door to close it off) so was incredibly dangerous, it was filled with construction debris, including food wrappers (think: bugs!) and nails sticking out of boards. At this point, his assistant called and offered to get someone to come out to install the floor and tile what was to be the shower if I agreed to pay the next 25% in return and, I was assured, in writing, they would then be out the next week to complete the bathroom. They sent a sub to do the tile and floor that weekend, so I held my side of the agreement and gave them the next check, which they immediately cashed and then never returned again (except 1 morning, a month later, when they sent 3 guys to sit in my driveway for 20 minutes and refuse to come in, at which point I seriously feared for my safety). The next day (this was now in December - nearly 4 months after ripping out my bathroom) they sent me a letter stating that they would no longer work for me. I asked for my money back and they sent me a 2nd letter saying they would not return any of my money to me. ps - the name of his carpenter is Ray.

Under those circumstances, clear and consistent communication was absolutely critical. Several aspects of our experience stood out. First and foremost, the quality of the work was exceptional. The finished product is beautiful, and the attention to detail is evident throughout the entire house. Second, during the planning phase, Prime Design provided a comprehensive list of decisions we needed to make--from flooring and countertops to every light fixture and faucet. This created a clear roadmap for the project, helped us select items that complemented one another, and documented every choice along the way. As a result, there were no surprises when the project was completed. Finally, because we were still living out of state during much of the construction, regular communication was essential. We received frequent progress updates and photos, which allowed us to monitor the work, confirm that everything met our expectations, and feel confident that the project was moving in the right direction. We are extremely happy with both the process and the finished result. We recommend them to anyone considering a remodeling project.
