I haven't been to a tropical smoothie cafe chain in a while, only because I find their smoothies to be expensive. I decided to stop by and I've noticed their menu has expanded a bit as they now offer bowls (yogurt/acai) I decided to try one of these new bowls--green dream yogurt. The first thing I noticed was the size of the bowl. It was rather small, maybe a diameter of 4 inches and about 2 inches tall. The yogurt base was supposed to have flavors of avocado, lime, honey, spinach and kale. I didn't quite taste all of these but it was a sweet base with a pretty green color. The fruit on top was fresh and I think they all worked together to give a creamy (coconut), sweet (mango), tangy (blueberries) crunchy (granola) experience. I remember trying one of their breakfast wraps a while ago and was not impressed so I was skeptical of trying their food again but I did have the Baja chicken wrap and it was very delicious (especially for a smoothie place with limited cooking supplies). The rice was a bit bland and the chicken was pale but the onions gave it a limey taste which I think was the highlight. The beans were good, the avocado helped make the wrap creamy tasting. The lettuce was fresh and so was the tomato salsa. It would've been better if they grilled it like a panini so I would recommend asking. The wrap came with a side and I had the kale slaw. It was actually good. It tasted a lot like the cole slaw from KFC because of the sweet dressing it had. You couldn't taste the sometimes very green taste that kale gives off. The green apples also helped not only provide a crunch but also some sour and sweet contrast. With the wrap, you can add a smoothie for $5 which I did. I had the mango one and it was good. One thing I wish tropical smoothie cafe offered were smaller sizes of smoothies in case you're not in the mood for a very tall cup--seems they only have one size. Parking is good because it's in the garden city plaza but depending on the day of the week you go, you might make a few turns trying to find something. There are shops all around and some restaurants which makes for a perfect day of smoothies, food, and shopping. The employees here were nice and attentive. read more

Second and final time at this location. First, the good: Plenty of parking in garden city, the line moves pretty fast. Annnnnd that's it. The bad: I ordered two chicken flat bread sandwiches and wanted to order a smoothie. Now when you add a smoothie to any food item, it's supposed to be 3.50. I pointed this out and the cashier said "it won't let me make it a combo". I said "is it a computer issue? Because you have a sign right there (see picture)" and, with the energy of a hungover-and-high sloth, she answers "yea. No. We can't do a combo" So I said, never mind cancel the smoothie. I guess my expectations were too high because she still put the order through. At this point I had been at the register longer than I should have been (mostly due to the whisper level responses from the cashier that made it nearly Impossible to hear over the roar of vitamixes in the back, so I just went ahead and took the smoothie. Cashier remained totally indifferent and didnt seem to want to fix the issue. So while waiting for my order, I began writing this review. 15mins pass and people after me are getting their drinks. I go back up to the counter to find my smoothie and sandwiches have been sitting on the counter. No one bothered to call it out. Different girl at the counter so I asked about my order and they were able to fix the issue and supposedly give me a refund. While waiting, also witness girl in the back drop a spatula...she picked it up. Got a new spatula, great. But did not change gloves after picking something off the floor. Gross. Lots of smoothie choices and sandwiches. They have minimal seating and its very loud due to the blenders. At one point I must have been daydreaming and I thought I was being serenaded by a group of elephants. The prices are reasonable, but I wished they used more protein powder in my drink. I had a strawberry, banana smoothie with soy protein powder. The order process could be improved so that people ordering just smoothies get their drinks before people ordering food. The staff is predominantly young kids so I understand the learning curve but the staff was slow doing most everything while I was waiting. More disappointing was the actual smoothie. It was small for a "large", pricey, and lacked much flavor. I love smoothies but this place is not on the return list. I can think of a half dozen places that are better. Waiiiiiittttt smoothies for under $6!? That's unheard of. Also, I can't believe how big their sizes are! Even the kid size is large enough for a small adult. This is my first time and we got the paradise point, chocolate chimp and super green blast. They're all delicious (of course the chocolate is the most delicious lol). What in the world is going on over there at Tropical Smoothie Cafe?! They are understaffed. The staff they do have is mismanaged. Today 7/20/2022, at around noon, this place fell apart. Knowing John and Jill Zajac well, I don't think they would be happy about what is going on over there. This is a local establishment that I have loved in the past, but after they treated ALL their customers today, I wouldn't be surprised if they ever come back. Let's not start with me, but start with the Mother of five children that was ignored for thirty minutes. She went through the drive-thru. She was told to come in instead because they weren't taking orders or serving them through the drive-thru. She came in and waited at the register while I sat and watched. She waited for 10 minutes, and not one person even acknowledged her. She went back out to the car and brought in her five kids. She waited again twenty more minutes, and they still didn't recognize her standing there. The staff then started to take orders from the Drive-thru window again! The kids began to get upset for standing there waiting. Again, no one did anything. I can't believe she stood there waiting for so long. She had the patience of a saint. I would have probably already yelled for my money back and bolted. She finally got her order delivered to the counter. Picking it up, one of the smoothies fell on the floor. NO ONE, not one staff member, helped her or offered to make another. Let's move to the woman who was forced to wait thirty minutes for a register-tendered order and was late getting back to work. She was super unhappy! Move to the man who did an online order for the mocha-flavored drink and was told after waiting thirty minutes, they were out. From what he said, his wife wasn't going to be happy coming home after almost an hour empty-handed. WTF is happening over there?! That place is falling apart, and I blame the management. It doesn't matter if you are understaffed. You should be taking care of it! I won't be going back there any time soon, and I AM 100% neither will the other eight people who were waiting around me today. Get it together, Tropical Smoothie Cafe. You are losing money! The smoothies here are pretty good. I liked being able to order online and arrange for pick up. The pick up line was pretty long when I went because only 1 girl was working to deliver the drinks to the cars. It took about 10 minutes to get my drink, which i didn't mind. I am addicted to this place! The place is always clean and has great smoothies for even greater prices! A smoothie is only 3$ with a sandwich so why not try both? I've had the avacolada smoothie every time I've gone and it is delicious and filling. I have had the chicken pesto flatbread and the super green chicken Caesar wrap and both were great portions and filling. The size of the smoothie they give you is crazy for the price-- it's HUGE. They also have free samples there which is a great way to try other smoothies before purchasing them. The people who make the food are very nice as well. Than I notice how a girl with gloves cleaning where people sit went to wrap a sandwich touching the food with the same gloves!! Avocolada with a pea protein scoop $7.11 I can only comment on this particular drink because it is the only smoothie I order because I am just slightly addicted to it. However I have seen some really good bowls/wraps and sandwiches leave and the menu is fantastic. I stop in 2 times a week after a heavy workout to get this protein shake. So delicious, with fresh ingredients, that I will not ever drink that powdered shit at the gym again, especially because it is the same amount of money spent. I go to this location all the time, they started off a little rocky but have gotten much better! The staff is always very kind and have even drawn smiley faces on my cup before which made me smile. Really hard to rate. There were some good and some bad. We will star off with the good. Hands down best southwest wrap I have had. Everything seems to be prepared really well. The location seems very clean. I liked the set up and the bathrooms were clean. I like this place. I do. The shakes taste great and the food is great. I personally know two employees that work here as well and they are great kids. But it gets 4 stars and not 5 because it's so inconsistent. Shakes that are not filled all the way to the top of the cup. Unblended ice chunks. Shakes so thick you're better off trying to suck peanut butter through a straw. Place an order on the app and show up to be told they didn't get the order. TWICE, I ordered my order online ahead of time , I go into the store to grab my order and STILL waited about 15 mins almost , food was done but didnt see my shake , then came to realize that the shake that was sitting on the counter the entire time was mine , no one handed it to me or said a word. i ordered online so I'm not late back to work from break but that didn't work out well. this is rediculous and they're all super young kids probably like 15-18 years old. Not a fan of this particular location. I've been to the other two locations in providence many times, great experiences! However I came to this location one day, ordered a smoothie and paid. Other customers came in after me placed their orders at the counter and left before me. So I am very patient and waited about 10-15 mins before going back over to the counter to ask about my order (1 smoothie) and the cashiers like "umm what did you order?" About 7 minutes later I got my smoothie and had no flavor whatsoever and I've ordered this same smoothie flavor about a dozen times. My cup was leaking and only filled 3/4 of the way. None of the employees even bothered to apologize. Customer service is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed at this location! Orders should be made in the order that they were received. I've contacted corporate explaining the whole situation in detail over the phone and they have yet to contact me back as they promised. I will no longer be a customer of tropical smoothie. Arrived at lunch time at 12pm. Stood at the register for 15 minutes while they were working on online orders. Not once was I acknowledged at the register, asked to wait, or had my order taken. Individuals were sitting around waiting for their online order pickups for 20+ minutes. When I interrupted a staff member and asked to have my order taken I was told that they are very busy and it was going to be a while. No apologies, no offer to take the order and wait. This is unacceptable for a restaurant. The food is good when off hours but they clearly do not have good staffing when it is most appropriate. I will not be returning to this location. read more
