My friend was on a smoothie kick so I went from having never been to a Tropical Smoothie Cafe to going to three different ones in one week. This was the first one I came to and I ordered a green smoothie and a chicken quesadilla. Someone was working on a broken freezer in the dining room and another guy was eating Five Guys from next door... we opted for a to go order. The service was a little slow but eventually we were on our way back to the house. The smoothie was great and I've continued to get that same one at other locations, but the quesadilla was abysmal. Don't get me wrong, it tasted fine, but there was almost nothing in it. It was like 85% tortilla. I was starving at the time making it particularly disappointing. I know this is a healthier place, but I knew this had to be a mistake and not the norm... or at least I hoped. I was right because I was at another location later in the week and ordered another to test my theory and it was a regular portion of delicious quesadilla. I understand that people make mistakes, but there is no way you could look at this thing and think it was acceptable to serve to someone. Place was empty and it took them forever to answer over the drive thru. When they did answer the person taking the order was barely audible. They told me at the window my total was $9.20 and when I got back home and checked my account $10.68 was charged to it so the employee must have tipped himself. Tropical Smoothie Cafe is a solid smoothie choice in Charleston. I've visited this location, the one in west ash, and the one in Nexton in Summerville/Sangaree area. They are all nice, clean, with friendly service and delicious smoothies. When I visit Tropical Smoothie Cafe, I like to get a couple of things. First, I gotta get a smoothie. I like the Beach Bum smoothie. It is a strawberry banana smoothie with chocolate! You can choose between white chocolate and dark chocolate. I always choose dark! You can also add protein to any smoothie. Their options for protein are Soy, Pea, or Whey protein. I alternate between Soy and Pea protein. I can't taste the protein in my smoothies. It just helps make the smoothie more filling and better for you. I also like to grab a Peanut Butter Banana Flat Bread Crunch... I think is what it's called. It's on the breakfast menu. It is a flat bread with peanut butter, sliced bananas, honey, and granola folded up inside. It is so good, any time of day! Your kids will love it too! Smoothies are relatively cheap here. They only have one size it seems like... which is about a 20 ounce, I'd say. A smoothie by itself after tax is usually about $7. Overall, I highly recommend Tropical Smoothie Cafe! I already drove off and it's out of my way so I'm not going back. But the smoothie I received had large chunks of what I believe to be pineapple core in the smoothie. I tried Tropical smoothie Cafe for lunch today and I really enjoyed the flavorful and fresh ingredients! Though they had a wide variety of smoothie options I was pressed for time and tried a wrap (Baja Chicken) which contained everything from chicken and black beans to pickled red onion and avocado, it was full of flavor and a really decent portion size. My wrap came with the choice of one side, you may choose from a cookie, chips, fruit or the amazing kale and apple slaw which sounds a little questionable BUT it's good, fresh, crunchy, creamy and different. My order was less than $8.00 but I didn't venture into smoothie territory, I look forward to returning when I have more time to explore the menu and try one of their smoothies. I love tropical smoothie. I've been to this location twice and can say that it is the worst tropical smoothie location I've visited. Both times Ive ended up walking out before ordering. The first time I went in, it was chaos. The teen workers had some friends in restaurant, and were running around, playfully (but unprofessionally) hitting each other. Nobody acknowledged us for 5 mins until one of the friends (who wasn't a worker) said: "Y'all need to stop playing and take those people order." The cashier responded by rolling her eyes at him and turning to us and saying "what y'all want?"... I said "nothing actually" and left the store. Weeks later I decided that I was maybe too harsh and judgmental on the teen workers (after all they are young and this was probably just a one time situation.) I returned and this time the workers didn't even acknowledge me. Some sat at the counter, eating. Others were cleaning. I didn't mind since I wanted to take time to look at the menu. When I was ready, however, still no one acknowledged me. They all looked out the corner of their eye at me but said nothing. The products are usually delivered fast, but are not well made all that well at times. The store is a little cramped, and the staff doesn't usually have a welcoming tone. As a previous employee, I felt like resource rather than a part of the team. The location does offer Curbside, Online and Delivery pickup services, and wait times are 5-15 min. Covid protocols are heavily enforced and the cleanliness of the store is subpar. If you want a quick bite without much interaction, this Tropical Smoothie Cafe location will deliver. This place was really good last year when it opened. The service was quick and the food/smoothies turned out great. Fast forward to now, the food isn't really that good anymore. The smoothies are mostly bland. I had a half frozen avocado (pic) in my smoothie. The service is extremely slow even when there is no line. I've overheard the employees arguing and rolling their eyes at each other. The place has gotten really dirty as well. The ceiling fans are covered in dust, trash can lid is covered in old splattered food, and the bathroom was swarming with gnats. It's take that extra effort of the manager to find the time to clean the facility, especially when you're serving food. I used to really enjoy this place but now it's a gamble what kind of service we will get. read more

This is not just a place to grab a smoothie after all! I was meeting a friend for lunch and was in the mood for something different than the usual places in this particular area. So naturally, I used Yelp to help me find a cool new spot to have lunch and this place popped up. I'd seen it before, driven passed even, but thought it was just a place to grab a smoothie. I was pleasantly surprised though to see that the also make flatbread sandwiches, wraps, and salads. First of all, the place is really bright and inviting. And I love the bar right by the register so that you can sit and see all the action. This is a fast casual spot and they take your order at the register before you sit. So after stepping aside to look over the menu I decided on the chicken apple club flatbread with bacon, kale and apple slaw, smoked cheese, and honey Dijon. I also got a side of the apple and kale slaw. The food didn't take long to come out and it had great flavor. The flatbread was filled with chicken and tasted delicious with the slaw and honey Dijon. The apple and kale slaw is also delicious. My one complaint I think is that they maybe could dress the slaw and flatbread a bit less. The dressing, although good, was a bit overwhelming and the flatbread got a bit messy towards the end because the dressing and Dijon was dripping out. But that's a minor complaint considering how pleased we both were to be having lunch there. I definitely do expect to come back. Maybe even try a smoothie next time. read more

Great place for a healthy pick me up while running errands! I have a few dietary restrictions (dairy free etc) so finding something on most menus is difficult. My wrap was bursting with flavor (hummus vegetarian wrap), and as a side I tried the apple kale coleslaw. I'm not a huge fan of coleslaw but I enjoy kale so I tried it. Let's just say it became better after a few bites. I wasn't to crazy about the taste of my smoothie. There was a slight aftertaste. The location we visited was well decorated, player Caribbean music in the background, and was super clean. I paid less than $15 for a large smoothie with extra peanut butter, wrap and kale salad. Was a little scared cuz of the reviews other people left here, but as far as i could tell it seemed like a pretty standard running place. They were a little busy with people sitting eating, i think there was 4-5 workers behind the counter and they were moving efficiently. Great new healthy addition to the North Charleston area! My husband brought home a smoothie - it was a sunrise sunset smoothie with whey protein and flax seed. It was delicious! I was there tonight after a pretty tough workout and was famished but I wanted something somewhat healthy. I ordered a cali club flatbread - chicken, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and bacon. I devoured it in just a couple of minutes! My husband had the King Chicken Caesar wrap- I had a bite of it and really liked it as well. I like that the prices are very reasonable and a side is included with the sandwiches and wraps (not the flatbreads). They have healthy options to choose from like fresh fruit and a kale salad. Got greeted by a guy name Joey! Who quickly helped me figure out some of his favorite options he recommends me trying. I observed how he handled money with his gloves on, and when it came to fixing the smoothie, he immediately put on new gloves! A plus, especially handling the cup, and touching the things needed to complete the smoothie.
