She was spayed, chipped and had ALL her shot PLUS heartworm tested AND they gave her heartworm and flea and tick prevention. She is sweet and exactly what Allie and her volunteers described. So just be aware that there may be more animals at the LCHS than shown on the website. We adopted a cat from the LCHS a few years ago, and she captured our hearts and was just the best companion. The shelter isn't huge, but the facilities are a step up from the old location on 280, where I volunteered back in the stone ages. From recent visits, I love how you're able to freely interact with the cats and kittens (not sure about dogs), and they also pipe in music for the felines. When we adopted our cat, we weren't able to adopt the same day since the adoption coordinator was out but I'm not sure how it is now. Anyway, adopt a shelter pet!!!!

I had my first foster dog for a few months and she recently got adopted to a wonderful family. I can't tell you how cool it was to help a dog who literally was on death row at a local shelter to get healthy again and then to find a new home. AARF made it a really easy and rewarding experience to volunteer and they help wonderful animals find great homes. There are other rescue groups in Atlanta and they are all doing amazing work. I'm certainly not saying AARF is any better than any other rescue group because I haven't volunteered with any others but I am saying that the people at AARF rock and I really love working with them.

Fostering an animal while it finds a home is one of the best things a person can do. Animals in tiny cages where they don't get room to run and play can get issues that can take years of training and care to treat. But, give a homeless animal a temporary home while you find a permanent one and it can learn from your other pets or just get used to what it is like to have a nice home. Just a few months ago I reached out to MM because I was at the end of my patience with the puppy I was given April 2026. He was unruly, aggressive and biting people. With me he was great but I couldn't trust him outside or with others.He would have fits and start barking trying to bite people,other dogs and even children. Today after the classes at Mostly Mutts with Christina and Gabe he is a different dog. He's not perfect but he is much improved. He's manageable. He no longer barks uncontrollably or lunges at other dogs, children and people. I highly recommend Mostly Mutts they are wonderful. They have taught me how to handle my dog and give him what he needs to be a good pet. Thank you Mostly Mutts you get 5 stars from me.

I requested a visit to pick out a new fur baby. They led me to believe that I could pick her up…read morenext day. They then proceeded to ban me for no reason from the shelter all together....ever. The worst experience I have ever had. I have raised and trained dogs my whole life. Most have lived far beyond their life expectancy. These people banned me from the shelter all together for no reason. All after the visit and me having picked out a dog. For no reason given. Do not go there. They continue to show your chosen dog to others. They are rude and set me up for a fall. They continued to demean me personally.
