First impression walking in: dirty, 'cheap' displays of junk jewelry. Sitting in chair waiting for cut and, I was shocked to learn she was the owner, a woman walked in, sat in the chair next to me, fixed her hair and makeup, then proceeded to talk to the stylists. No 'good morning', not an ounce of professional behavior. Do you primping privately--The first thing the owner should do is greet customers and employees. 30 minutes in before she bothered. I used the restroom and noticed how dirty vents/light fixtures were in addition to clumps of hair in corners. Definitely choose another, more professional place. read more

i will not be coming back here. sorry to say this but their stylists are very incompetent & do not care about their work whatsoever. my last experience with them took place in february, but i never got back to write a review until now. i came in with dark brown-black hair box dye & wanted to simply go light brown. i proceeded to show the stylist a photo & she even had another stylist come look at it & they both said it was do-able in that one visit. however, i left with blonde highlights with brass & a green hue as well. I called back two days later & they glossed over it to make it brown, & then went back a day after that gloss & they did my ends in that visit. I went home after that & my ends were a totally different color than the top half of my hair & it looked horrible. i went back in once more because i was leaving for florida a few days later & needed it fixed. they "fixed" the different colors, however after being in florida for 3 days it washed out & my ends were a different color AGAIN. also to mention, the owner of the salon was very rude when i explained the problem, & laughed in my face when i told her i did dark box dye in the summer time. i will not be returning, & i advise everyone else to go elsewhere now. wasted $300+ & my hair is more damaged than it's ever been before. do not waste your time & money here! read more

I didn't want to write a review, but Bethany completely ruined my hair and I can't get over how awful it is. I gave her simple instructions to barely trim it and keep it long in the front. Apparently that went in one ear and out the other. She completely chopped off all of my hair, leaving me to look ridiculous for my upcoming wedding. Thankfully, Heather realized it was so horrible and nothing like the picture I showed her and did her best to make it right. Don't ever let Bethany touch your hair unless you want to look absolutely ridiculous. I would post pictures of how awful it looks relative to the picture I showed Bethany, but I am too embarrassed to do so. DO NOT LET BETHANY TOUCH YOUR HAIR. Booked an appointment for a gel manicure and gel pedicure, what I was told would be a two hour appointment (10-12). Was aware during booking that I did have gel polish on my toes already. I arrived for my appointment at 9:35, was taken back right at 10. The pedicure started at 10 and did not finish until 11:47am. Almost two hours just for a pedicure. I was not able to stay for the manicure due to having another appointment at 12:15. The deluxe Pedicure was nice but the gel that I got does not cover my entire nail on many of my toes. This is very disappointing. Overall this experience was NOT worth the money that I was charged for it. read more

I have been going to Tru Salon since it opened, and went to the salon before it moved and changed names- trust me, it's been a long time (basically 12 or so years). I've never once had a bad experience. When you find a stylist who knows what she's doing, listens to you, and/or makes suggestions when you need a "change" every few years, this is the place to go. I live over 45 minutes away now, and I still trek out there every 6 weeks like clockwork. Bethany is the best stylist a girl could ask for. Heather is an amazing manager/owner/etc. The way she makes sure that the team stays up-to-date on hair trends, training courses, coloring techniques is just awesome. And did I mention Jackie? She makes your skin look like you're 10 years younger than you are, with just a few items. She also makes great recommendations that turn your skin from drab to fab. There is a reason I keep coming back and it's the hairstylist Genni! I don't live near the salon anymore but I'm willing to travel just so Genni can do my hair. She's so kind and knowledgeable about hair! She's got an amazing eye for color and length. I've seen her consistently for cuts and whenever I decide to do color. She's incredibly helpful when it comes to what I should be doing to take care of my hair (and when recommending products she's great at know different price points to make sure you don't break the bank taking care of yourself.) I've done bold colors, natural colors, trims, and full on chops and there hasn't been a single time I've had any even tiny doubts when I leave the salon. I took a chance on a new salon and what a hidden gem! I was greeted by Korina at the front desk when I first walked in. She was very professional and took the time to show me their products. My appointment was scheduled with Genni for a all over color and gloss. I have dark hair and I worry about color getting stained on me and my clothes. I went to another salon that messed my hair up really badly. I wanted ombré and got stuck with red hair and blond highlights. I came into Tru Salon and Heather saw me and stayed late that night and fixed my hair. I felt beautiful again. I haven't been back to this place in a year, and I have avoided a review because a family member was still a client. Needless to say, she is no longer a client due to her own bad experience. I decided to take a chance on this place when I moved back to Michigan. I couldn't get in at another salon where I had received a recommendation. This place had good reviews so I figured I would try it. My previous stylist of 5 years said it is common place for salons to match color formulas from one line to another when you have the formula. She also stated that any reputable salon would be able to do this with a little research. This salon does not do this. I will first say the stylist I was placed with, while very nice, had virtually no confidence in her ability...not a good way to start. She hemmed and hawed over my color. When it was done (the first time) my roots were orange (I wanted a very dark brown with a violet undertone) and did not at all match the pull through. She had to redo the color. Since this put the stylist behind, she had me see the esthetician while I was processing. This began the uncomfortable experience of being, literally, in the middle of the stylist and the esthetician arguing over the schedule. Awkward! As a side note, threading at this salon is quite pricey compared to other places I have not tried in the area. I don't mind paying it if I am happy with the results. After the second round of color, I was no longer embarrassed to go on our upcoming vacation; however, the color was not what I asked for. Moving on to the trim...She cut my hair. I asked for a trim. Getting nervous with every snip, I realized my long layers were no longer long. I knew I was in real trouble when the stylist said she gave me her particular cut. She had a ton of short layers. YIKES! Over 3 hours later, they gave me a discount on services due to my experience, I walked out knowing I wouldn't see the stylist or esthetician ever again. SO reasonably, one would ask why I would go back. The original recommendation I received on a stylist ended up moving to this salon. Assuming I may get something different with someone who received such rave reviews, I had hoped she would get the color right....nope. She told me the formula was like a foreign language and wouldn't research it. I gave her a few chances but she never got it the way I wanted it. I never returned. Since then, I have been to 2 other salons, that researched it and got it right. The family member stopped going when she was not told her stylist no longer worked there. This is someone she has seen for years before she joined Tru. She was not happy to not be informed, especially since she was having her hair done for a special occasion. To add insult to injury, during a call to the salon, the individual on the other line kept referring to her as "Hun"....she is not the type of person to call "Hun". She later realized it was the owner of the salon on the other end of the phone. She took no responsibility for not informing her of the stylist's exit. There is certainly a lack of professionalism here, and beyond this particular episode, the front desk staff could use training on how to speak with clients. read more

I made an apt with Heather, who the receptionist said was a color expert and had worked for many years in coloring specifically. When I met her I thought wow, she looks so young, hope she is as good as touted. The stylist told me - she works several jobs and hair styling is only part time. Through process she asked a few of her peers for help, not just in the color blending, but on the cut which I found surprising given my hair is just long layers, which I wanted to maintain. But that wasn't the case. I was there for almost 3 hours during which she seemed confused and uncomfortable with what she was doing. The cut was not workable, had big puffy parts. I ended up going back to get it fixed. I will say the gal was accommodating and didnt try to charge anything else. On the second visit, with more advise from the owner this time, she made it better, not great, but definitely better. Color was ok - just ok as they couldn't match my brown.. my very basic Loreal Color 6 brown which other salons Ive been to haven't had such challenges. Got a new version that was livable but not what I had or wanted. The experience IMO was not worth the cost or time commitment. . The ladies are all very nice.. but I felt it was far less than honest in terms of what I received. A discount was not offered for my displeasure or revisit, thus the tip had to suffer as a partial offset - even though the young gal wanted to do it right - just didn't have the experience yet or the right product perhaps to get the results. Thus my disappointment with the overall salon service. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I want everyone to know, NEVER go to Genni. She will RUIN your hair. It took me over a year to get mine normal again, and even still the bottom portion of it is not where I'd like it to be. For anyone curious, I wanted to go a bit more blonde and she just lathered bleach all over my hair with no technique to make it blend, and then put me under a processor that gave me chemical burns; the lady that sat next to me had to call for help. Genni does NOT know what she's doing. My hair turned out orange/yellow and there were blocks were my roots were. I told her I wanted a grown out blended root so that the blonde would still look good as it grew out. It's such a shame because the highlights I had from my previous stylist were beautiful. Take this as a lesson, to never try someone new if you like the stylist you already have. I ended up having to make an emergency appointment the very next day at a different salon to dye it back to brown completely. I didn't trust them to not ruin my hair even further if I went back there to try and get it fixed. I never got a refund, or anything. Don't waste your time and money, and DON'T ruin your hair. I am still traumatized and apprehensive about doing anything to my hair even tho my current stylist is amazing, educated, and at a high-end salon in West Bloomfield. read more

Tru Salon & Spa was super in every way, the customer service was great, the prices were fair, and the quality of the cuts was awesome- plus the building and interior are pretty!. This was my first time going here. I paid 160$ for a color I didn't want, even after showing my stylist a photo of how I wanted it. I made an appointment for cut, color, and a Malibu treatment but she told me she couldn't do the Malibu because she didn't have time. I was given a different treated that was supposed to make my hair " feel really soft and not dry for 2 weeks". 2 days later my hair is just as dry as it was when I went it. Best Salon Ever! I have been coming to Tru Salon Spa (and It's prior Location for over 10 years. My daughters both go here and so does my husband. Everyone that works here is friendly, nice, caring and very genuine. I would never think of going any where else. All the stylists are color experts, as well as highly trained hairstylists. They are all trained and attend special classes on the latest cutting edge fashion trends every 6 months. I have been to many salons, and have never heard of the whole salon receiving so much education on color and style techniques. I am very particular about my color and style. I trust the staff and manager Cheri with all decisions now when it comes to my color and style. Tru Salon Spa also has a very talented facial/ skin care expert, Candace, who has recieved cutting edge training in physician offices and specialty skin care lines on aging and skin problems. Not to mention her angelic hands that are so relaxing and put people to sleep. Bethany is a gem - a stylist who is up to date on all the current trends and my young adult daughters Love her talent and updated ideas. Jodie is an amazingly sweet and talented stylist as well. She is very conciensoius and aims to please. Wendy, also a talented stylist is a hoot. When ever I am in the saloon with her, I can't stop laughing. Finally, the newest nail technician, Code Nicole really knows her craft. She is also a nail artist who is constantly challenging herself to come up with new stylish looks to adorn her clients nails.
