He only supported my ambitions. As for the quality of TrueGrain's materials, it is the best. My drawers are beautiful, easy to open, and soft-close. I now have a pull-out drawer for trash and recycling bins. There are no sagging shelves in the cabinets. And instead of shelves in our tall/wide pantry, we picked drawers-- this makes the space much more usable/accessible. So not only is the kitchen beautiful, but it's much more functional. No hidden fees. The work was perfect. The installation team was professional and cleaned up after the job. The work was done as scheduled and on time. Once in a while Yelp truly delivers. TrueGrain is one of those places. Just like others, I was going to install Ikea cabinets but was running into cabinet installers who seemed not to walk the talk. I worked in the furniture business and can detect BS. John on the first call did not set off any alarms. I went to his shop and got the design started. Since the design is all via computer so you can make a few tweaks over the phone unless he wants you to come to the shop to talk materials and fit/finish. One interesting aspect was that John actually talked me into spending LESS than I was planning to in the first place. The project was finished on time and I can't be happier. John's crew (especially Alex) is hyper-professional and know what they are doing. I will be having TrueGrain do additional work around the house. P.S. Did not have any issues with handles/pulls installation. If anything I was the one delaying things with John reminding me to get my act together :) read more

TrueGrain was recommended by our contractor. We met with the owner prior to agreeing to use them and found them professional and we liked there finished product. When the job started it seemed like everything was going to be great. His staff was great. Then it came to the end and John refused to install the handles on the cabinets until they received final payment (the final payment due upon completion and approval of everything). We found this strange and refused to pay until the job was complete. Our contractor ended up installing the handles. John said that installing the handles was a complementary item and not part of the job and therefore he was finished with the job and due the final payment. Again the staff did great work just had issues with being held hostage until we paid everything. read more

5 stars is not enough stars! My kitchen cabinets are fantastic. Expertly installed by the most professional, wonderful group of folks I've ever worked with. They had my cabinets ready when scheduled, always a plus. The details John of Truegrain help us design into our kitchen remodel are so convenient and state of the art. I'm having no trouble getting used to the LeMans installed in our blind corner cabinet. What a dream piece of cabinetry accommodation. John and his professional workers are impossible to beat for quality, talent, professionalism, and design capabilities. John has the ability to make the most beautiful custom cabinets fit in the most ridiculous older homes with uneven non square angles. Is it too much to say that I love my kitchen thanks to Truegrain? Words cannot express how grateful I am to have found John at TrueGrain to completely transform our kitchen! We were on a pretty strict budget and so we originally were thinking to buy/install an Ikea kitchen, but I really didn't like the look of the Ikea cabinets. Then, we were going to buy Ikea boxes and have custom fronts made by Semi Handmade. But, Semi Handmade was going to take 8-10 weeks and we didn't have that kind of time. Plus, we didn't realize how expensive it would be to install Ikea cabinets! All of the installation quotes we received were astronomical, so any deal you are getting by buying Ikea cabinets is completely gone by the time they are installed professionally. Finally, John steps in, and gives us a quote that is not that much more than what it would have cost for us to go the Ikea/Semi Handmade route, and it is completely custom! We decided to do white shaker cabinets and walnut floating shelves and he provided so much helpful advice throughout the process, including with respect to additional details to help with organization (i.e., lazy susan, spice rack, etc.). We love our kitchen and we have John to thank for it! John also made custom dining room cabinets/shelves and master bathroom vanity for us. He is a true craftsman and takes pride in his work. I had several estimates to re-do my kitchen and felt confident that working with John would not only be a pleasure, but that he truly cared about his craft. Although my home was built in 2007 and the kitchen had granite counters and oak cabinets, that some may appreciate, I wanted white shaker cabinets and a more custom and updated look. He replaced all the doors and installed self closing drawers. To complete the look, he built a row of cabinets that were flush to the ceiling, which made the back wall a focal point. I also had him install seeded glass in several cabinets for a vintage look, with new pulls and knobs. Our home (although very nice quality) wasn't completely plumb and level, but John was able to line everything up perfectly. Some (my family) would say I'm very picky, but I look to the professionals to not only accomplish what the task is, but to also give me pointers on ways that I haven't thought of to achieve the best outcome possible. That is what John does, and did for me. He then hooked me up with a great painter, and marble counter guy, as I was contracting the job out myself. I now enjoy cooking and spending time with family and friends in this beautiful space, and it all started with hiring the right guy the first time around. Thank you John at Truegrain for making sure that my first experience being my own contractor turned out to be such a success. It would have been a much different ending, if not for you! My friend needed a custom door replaced on short notice. All of the local door/window shops in the SFV said it would be several weeks to get the door replaced. He called a specialty shop on the west side who suggested cabinetry shops as an alternative. He called, several that couldn't help, but then John McGinnis at TRUEGRAIN suggested he buy a standard door and he would cut it to specifications. Half hour later the door was fixed! I wish I had more stars to give to True Grain Cabinets and John McGinnis who runs this highly professional company. I had used a contractor to put in counters and tile and he messed things up terribly. Luckily, I found True Grain. John responded to my request immediately over text and then came to my house at exactly the time he said he would be there. Right then and there, I knew I had someone who had pride in his business. I did not have a contractor so John worked with me to find a tile professional (Peter Loya of PAL Tile) and then he helped me time everything so that were able to demolish what was there, install the tile and finalize the countertops. Did I say that both John and Peter are two of the nicest guys you would want to meet? They worked fast and professionally. They showed up on time and if they had a problem they called, texted or emailed. They cleaned up after themselves. They made our kitchen more beautiful than it was before. And they were remarkably reasonably priced. By the way, we used Home Depot to install our cabinets originally and they were an absolute joke...overcharged and underperformed. John and his team made us a beautiful "Furniture Grade" cabinet for our master bedroom. The cabinet had to fit inside a recess in our wall, and had to be a perfect fit. This was not an easy design/build project. John and his team made this cabinet exactly the way we wanted it to be. Zack and Alex did a flawless installation, and we hired Carlos to complete the finish, on-site, in white lacquer. The results were nothing short of amazing. Alex just installed the drawer and door hardware and we could not be happier with the results. We plan to work with John and his team at TrueGrain, in the near future, on a few other custom cabinets. John and his super friendly & totally pro crew (which included his shop teacher from high school!) just installed cabinets for our kitchen and laundry. They could not have done a better job. We wanted to keep with the quality and vintage look of our 1926 Spanish house and they matched perfectly with modern day conveniences like self-closing drawers and pull-out pantries.
