I spend about a week in Shallotte every year. Last year I ramped up my gym efforts and so this year when vacation time came around I wanted to make sure I had a place to go during the week. ' I spent five days visiting TruFit and I loved every minute of it. The folks there are extremely friendly and the equipment is great. I wasn't lacking for anything (except a t-bar row but I made due). Its a little pricey for a 7 day membership - $39. Compare that to what I pay for my monthly membership at my home gym ($35) but I get it. It was worth the money and I'll be visiting again next year. Hidden fees. If you sign up and want to cancel they still charge you after 30days of cancellation. They don't handle the payments it's through another company which you have to contact to cancel the membership. I've never been a member at a gym where you can't go in and handle your membership in person. Every 6 months they charge you an additional $20 for gym improvement fees. Meanwhile none of the equipment is upgraded and if something breaks they don't fix it they put up a sign "sorry for the inconvenience" overall I've had a terrible experience with this gym. read more

I had a deeply disturbing experience at this Murfreesboro location on March 18, 2026. Despite being an invited guest of an instructor with a valid guest pass, I was met with immediate hostility by the manager on duty. Instead of honoring the staff invitation or attempting professional conflict resolution, the manager bypassed all protocol and called 911 while I was simply using the restroom before class. This resulted in three police officers arriving to threaten a professional woman with jail time over a gym pass misunderstanding. It felt like a clear case of profiling based on my appearance and ethnicity. To see city resources abused in such an escalatory way is dangerous and appalling. BUYER BEWARE!!! There's only one good thing about this gym and thats the woman who runs the daycare Kathy. Kathy is absolutely amazing and been great with our toddler. Outside of that the bathrooms are always dirty, the lockers are broken, and once equipment is broken it stays broken for long periods of time if it gets fixed at all. Owner is an ass**** who said he was going to fire all the employees who let me use the kids playroom while Mrs Kathy wasnt there. When I stuck up for those employees he said my membership was canceled and my wife's as well. My wife wasnt even involved in the conversation and was working out quietly. Now I have to fight for a refund with cooperate. I recommened not wasting your time with gym and go to Planet Fitness instead which is cheaper and has cleaner facilities with working equipment. read more

As a teacher and a public servant for over 20 years-I was disgusted with how TruFitGym handled my request to pirchase a day pass and key fob to train tomorrow-Christmas Day. It absolutely pains me to write this however with the extreme lack of professionalism's displayed by the young man at the front desk-Terrel-and the lack of business tact by the owner Mohammed, they leave me no choice. I just arrived in town yesterday as I am relocating to the area from Arizona. I saw this gym was 24hrs and stopped in to see what I could do to workout tomorrow, Christmas Day. The young man and the owner stated unless I was willing to pay for a years membership and then cancel it the day after Christmas they would NOT let me train. The fitness community is one that should promote health and fitness along with supporting others who want to engage in that lifestyle. This gym's core values are clearly not about that-it appears they are only about making money. Planet Fitness is directly next door and is a much better option than TruFit Gym in my opinion. I am all about supporting local business however, when they are only about making money, not uplifting the community, and have no clue about how to handle appropriate customer service, interest is lost. Childcare at this location is a joke. They left my 7 month old in his car seat for my whole 45 min work out. This is death risk. The worker seemed uninterested in being there but more attentive to the older toddlers. I brought this up to worker upon leaving and they struggled me off. Mentioned it again on their Facebook page and at first they ignored my comment and deleted it. Finally got them respond back about it after I called them out for deleting my comment. Only to be questioned if I was even in their system. They asked for time and date to see if it possibly happened. Seriously wtf. Why would I lie? Never got any resolution or serious concern about it. I love the porters neck location but this one isn't it. Not only the child care is negligent, the space is small and outdated. There's no extra room unless a class isn't going on. Having start my gym journey I can't express it enough this place is amazing! The staff are amazing and friendly, the new owner is amazing. I've been working out here for about 2 months now and working closely with one the the personal trainers Jerry, this guy has helped me out and helped me enjoy the gym and has shown me exercises and workouts that I never would have thought of! The gym committee here is amazing and everyone is very helpful and friendly! I'm down here for a week at Holden Beach and needed somewhere to go workout on a rainy day. Day pass was $12 which was reasonable and they didn't try to sell me on a membership like some chains do. I know the other reviews say it is not friendly, but I had a good experience at least for my day. I'm more used to a nicer gym from where I live, but wasn't expecting much while being down here in a more rural area. I think it met the expectation and standard for a gym here. Enough equipment to get some cardio and lifting done. It's a small town gym, so don't expect brand new machines and top of the line stuff. My only real issue was the lack of wifi. I got absolutely no service in there (Verizon user) and they didn't have guest wifi when I asked. So be sure to download your gym playlist on Spotify or something before you go haha. read more

Like any business, these guys are in it for the money. An example: the "maintenance" fee, which adds to already high monthly membership charges. What's the maintenance fee for? Good question. At least 5 machines in the gym where I go are routinely "out of order." As many have noted, the customer relations are really bad. They obviously hire people for minimum wage (saving a lot of money for them) but don't train them to work well with customers. And the personal training? Don't make me laugh. Just discipline yourself to do the reps; you don't need someone counting them out for you. Planet Fitness here I come! read more

I have been a member of this gym when it was gold's for going on 6 years. I love the classes and instructors. Donna for spin and Chris for Pilates are absolutely amazing! The problem is management and front desk personnel. I don't understand why they have to be so rude and disagreeable. Kristen, the so called manager, is the absolute worst!! Seems to me someone with such an obvious disdain for people, I mean paying clients, shouldn't be in a management position. Since I am now month to month, I will soon be canceling my membership. I was excited when TruFit took over Golds Gym. They did modernize & update it. BUT, they didn't tell me the truth. They told me nothing was going to change that I could continue to use Golds Gym in New Jersey and add an additional 3000 Trufit Gyms around the country. I had joined Golds because I go north a lot and get a 30 day pass to use NJ Golds Gyms. Well now they tell me I cannot use Golds. They gave me a discount (NOTE DISCOUNT not free) card for IHRSA program Gyms. Closest one is 60 miles from me in New Jersey. I will probably quit TruFit in near future because of this. read more

Don't go in here with anything but low expectations for equipment and the staff. They mop around patrons on a daily basis with pungent bleach for you to breathe while you workout. When something is broken or needs to be fixed it stays broken or as an inconvenience to members for weeks and months. The equipment is old. They spent money on dumb items like a tire flip machine and some bizarre diagonal press machine that no one uses instead of adding more things that people actually use or fixing the out of date and lousy stuff they already have. Oh and don't even try to deadlift in there without having to put up with some ridiculously uneducated argument from management about how it's disruptive and compromises the equipment. Anytime they have work to do on the facility, i.e., painting, new lights, bathroom work etc, they do it during gym hours for some reason. Seems like incompetence runs this place. And there is no way to complain to someone above the manager on site who already doesn't care about her gym. Like I said. Don't go here with anything but low expectations. read more

Several months ago I approached the front desk of this location to ask about pricing of their membership. Initially the lady behind the counter was nice enough and started going through the motions of giving me a tour of the facility. I told her I didn't have time for the tour and I just wanted to see their pricing. It was like I flipped a switch. Her attitude changed from helpful to annoyance and it was obvious she didn't want anything to do with me. She stated she couldn't give me a price until I took the tour and filled out some paperwork. WOW, I AM PAYING FOR A UNOPEN GYM. 0 stars This place signed me up for a year with fine print that says we will auto renew and you must give 30 days notice to cancel. Doesn't sound so bad but when you are not warned your year is up and you try and cancel, there is nobody to talk to about it. So you send an email, unfortunately you are 5 days late to request to cancel, no biggie...VERY WRONG!!!!! Because you have now been auto charged for the month and YOU WILL be charged into the second month of your cancellation period... WITHOUT exception. NO warning No leniency because of covid -19, oh yeah did i forget to mention that the gym is NOT EVEN OPEN currently? And has not been since my membership expired but i will still be charged for 2 extra months at $50 to cancel my membership to a gym that is closed and inaccessible????????????? All because i did not mark the no auto renew box that was so tiny next to her where to sign X that i was unable to even read it!!!!!!! Thanks TRUFIT you have been an exceptional help through this horrible experience. Child care was a joke, i can put my kids in front of the tv while i do a workout any time i want. I unfortunately would never recommend anyone joining this gym. The gym itself was never clean and always has a bad smell. It is very dark and dismal with no windows. The customer relations are zero. I have yet to find out who actually owns this gym. The front desk help is very condescending and rude. The billing is done off premises and you have to deal with an 800 number. The billing department doesn't care about you being a valued customer. The way the owners have dealt with covid 19 and taking care of their high risk customers has been disgraceful. This company is all about the almighty dollar. They charge a bizarre 40.00 additional charges in addition to your already expensive gym membership. Joining this gym was one of the worst experiences. I'm going back to the college where they actually care about people. I can't imagine this gym making it in business for long. Save your time and money! read more

I'm Fed up with this Gym treating my girlfriend like shit! I'm talking on her behalf of my girlfriend, because she's to nice. But, this is the last straw and I have to say something about, it just makes me furious how the way the manger treats her. She's embarrassed her she's made her feel not wanted there and shamed her! Last night she wanted to ask her a simple question. The manager blew up on her. The Manager couldn't answer the question or direct her to a higher up. So, what does the manager do, she tells her to go work out cause she simply doesn't care or to leave the gym (pretty much kicked her out). What the F is wrong with this place. Also yea theirs more when the gym was transitioning to TruFit, there were men in the Changing room fixing up the place which is OK. But, they never left when my girlfriend had to change into clothes. My girlfriend had to go in the hot sauna to change her clothes this place has no respect for their customers. I'm just tired of this place being so rude,shaming, an disrespectfulI to her. I personal feel so bad for her an I wanted to warn people what they are getting into. An trust me she rather go somewhere else but, theirs a contract keeping her there until the end of the year or just pay for the rest of the year off! Well I hope you don't sell your soul off to this place an try to find somewhere else like Bcc which has a sweet pool an inviting environment. Good gym with a good price. Twice now, I've wanted certain pieces of equipment (A hex bar for deadlifts and a squat safety bar) and have discovered they already had it. The staff is friendly and it hasn't been overcrowded, even at peak hours. The open all night feature is pretty great, too. I'd highly recommend the gym. read more

If you're looking for a pit to throw your money down, by all means, sign a contract here. I signed up at this gym to get rid of some unwanted baby pounds. I wound up having to buy out the remaining months as I could not use my membership anymore due to a schedule change at work and with child care. I was informed the only option would be to buy out my contract as the only acceptable excuses for leaving this gym are medical reasons, or moving where they don't have a location, What they neglect to tell you is that your contract still runs until the end of when you signed up for it. I bought out my contract in August of 2018, my contract is due to end January 2019. On January 2, 2019, they still drafted my account for $19.99, even though they know I can't use the gym, and haven't been able to for months!! When you call in, you can't get anyone on the phone at corporate, and when you call into the actual gym, there is no compassion for the customer, only the almighty dollar and the love for gym life. This place caters to those that live and breath gym life, not the average person just wanting to be healthier. read more

Horrible management. The so-called "manager" (Kristen), has an ice cold personality, no couth. She starts out semi nice to get you to sign up and then is a nightmare from that point on. You'll never be able to ask her questions or concerns, without her making you feel like you're a headache and not worthy of her time. Her explanations are robotic and snotty. She humiliated me in front of people at the front desk by telling me to just go away and that she didn't want to see my face anymore. All because I was simply trying to understand the concept of why a guest pass has to have a drivers license instead of a state ID. Not everybody drives in the world, and but that doesn't mean they aren't considered a resident. She was denying that, telling me that a person is not a resident without a "drivers" license. I was trying to explain to her that if they have a state ID that is from the local DMV, then it IS in fact showing that they are in fact a resident. She insisted otherwise & told me that she can't stand to look at me anymore, & that I'm annoying and that I need to leave the gym. Not only that, she insisted on saying my name wrong over and over, yet I've been a member at this place for a couple months now. She doesn't even know how to pronounce my name, that's how much effort she puts in. She's the most unaccommodating, uninviting, self entitled person I've ever witnessed in customer service. The worst part is that it's nearly impossibly trying to find someone to talk to higher up than her, it's as if she doesn't have bosses..which I know she must. She'll never hand you over info of a higher management to call. And the 1800 Truefit's customer service number is like a hotline that you leave a message with, only to never receive a call back. It's just a horrible place. The manager is the rudest and it sucks when you know they are taking your money every month, and that it's SUPPOSED to be a place of positivity and motivation. They are supposed to give off helpful comforting inviting energy. Kristen does not. I'd give it zero stars if I could, I'm just so disappointed this place every existed. read more
