My husband hired them for the first time this year. My advice DONT! I will say the gentlemen who work for them are very pleasant so 1 star. The first spray killed my clover & violets, the second the overspray killed two flats of bedding plants, now all of the worms are dying. I checked with our neighbors as I thought possibly the lack of rain was the cause for the worms dying but they do not have the loss of worms. So my advise is JUST DONT USE THE! On Wed Aug 6 2025 Trugreen came to my home, and began spraying some chemicals in my yard without my permission. By the time I noticed, the woman was in my back yard spraying these chemicals, and directly spraying into my chicken run. I yelled at her to stop, and told her she was spraying directly on my chickens. She was not paying attention because she was on a personal phone call. I asked her what she was spraying she said clover killer, and she assured me it was safe. I told her how strong the smell was, and asked her to stop, and who ordered this service. After reviewing her paperwork, she said she was at the wrong address. I called the company to ask what she sprayed so I can take any necessary precautions, and I was told i'd get a call or email from Trugreen telling me what was sprayed. I never got a call or email. The following day, all the areas she sprayed in my yard had died, and my chickens were ill with diarrhea for about 48hrs. They didn't lay eggs for a few days after that. I don't think this was a coincidence. I'm considering pursuing this further due to the lack of care, and attention from Trugreen on this matter. read more

This could hands-down be the worst company I have ever dealt with and the sad thing is I tried using them years ago and they were a nightmare then burning m entire front lawn but time passed and I gave them a second chance. This season a girl called sold me a summer package where I had chemicals in the front yard and natural in the backyard because of my pets. When they came out to do the first treatment everything was fine, but then after the second treatment, I started having really bad weeds and crab grass taking over my lawn. I called to complain. They sent out a technician. The technicians overall were great. They put down what they needed to put down, but things didn't work when i called to update Tru Green that nothing was working and m lawn was looking horrendous I must've had a half a dozen different conversations with different representatives having to explain myself over and over of what package I paid for compared to what they told me I had after they've already been putting down chemicals and then telling me I don't have chemicals because I live in New York State and never signed a waiver, then this nice technician said he would e-mail me a waiver asap and get it taking care of. No EMAIL ever came. I called again every time getting someone new on the phone and having to explain the entire story over and over and finally asked for a supervisor to call. I never got a call after a week. I Called again for a supervisor and now demanded my money back and canceled my service and also asked for a supervisor again to call to get my entire refund back, no phone call from anyone . They ended up refunding 1/3 of what i paid, m lawn is a disgrace at this point all weeds and no supervisors have EVER called. horrible horrible customer service.. I will NEVER use this company ever again. My neighbors have been asking me "what happened" to my lawn, because they have never seen it like this. I wish I had seen these prior reviews prior to signing up with them. I guess I was sucked in by their promise to be "truGreen" and to do whatever it took to keep me happy. One thing I NEVER had was green! They will always follow up their service with a a phone call or message to ask " are you happy with your service." I told them no repeatedly, and it made no difference to how my lawn looked. They simply provided lip service; I told them that. My lawn in over 30 years of lawn services has NEVER looked worse. They gave me a variety of reasons over a period of months of why my lawn looked so bad: "Chinch bugs.. lawn just needed some good fertilizer and it will green up in a matter of weeks, in about a month.... you should see results within a week... within a month." I always did my part with proper watering and cutting. The last straw- literally, because portions of my lawn are indeed now straw - was when they told me it was grubs that did the damage but they would not repair the damage. I was supposed to have "preventative?" Never even heard of it. And there you go. Ultimately - according to them - my horrible lawn was my fault. Wow! I've had many years of what I'd say was good lawn service from them and signed up for other services based on that experience. But today, my Ring camera caught one of their other technicians (new this year) for tree and shrub service, who walked up, planted the yard sign and hung the tag on the door, without actually applying anything. I ran up to the truck and confronted him, and he claimed that he serviced the wrong house (and leave the tag and signs on my house?). Caught him dead to rights. Couldn't even make up a plausible lie. I promptly called Trugreen and canceled all my services. I know not all of their technicians are like this, as my lawncare technician has been very good and diligent, but if I can't trust that they will do the work and do it properly, there is no point in having any of their services. If you have their service or are considering them, at the very least, have surveillance cameras, as I did, to have some assurance that you get what you paid for. read more

TruGreen bought my current provider whom I had prepaid in full for one year's service. Earlier this week I received an email in my spam box saying if I didn't prepay for next year they would automatically bill my card and renew me anyway. All in the fine print of course. So I call and cancel the service. Shouldn't need to do that since I never enrolled for them in the first place and buying out my provider doesn't confer the ability to auto "renew" me. Earlier today I receive a bill. Strange I would be billed since I paid IN FULL for the year. But TruGreen apparently doesn't honor that agreement they acquired and since their rates are higher are attempting to bill me for the differential as opposed to just completing their obligation. Guess I'll have to call again. This will be my third call. Seems like a lot of work for a company I never hired and who only did one treatment. read more

They have gone really downhill even since last year. Lawn Dog was the provider until a couple of years ago, and then Tru Green bought them. The treatments started late in the season, and have been delayed. Today they just did not do the treatment, saying that our lawn was being worked on. It wasn't. It is also impossible to reach a local person even when a message is left with the 800 number for a specific person to call back. No one called. I've used them for 3 years, and I'm very disappointed. My lawn does not look like I get a lawn service. The guy who cut the lawn was surprised when I told him I do. There are weeds on one side, to the point where I'm wondering if they even treat that area. The main area of the lawn is more weedy than it should be and there are numerous bald patches (that they told me they would fix....in fact, they guaranteed it. When I call customer service, the person seems disinterested, and always tells me it'll take a week to get someone out to my house. Flashback to 2014. Despite taking other measures to repel deer ticks, we were constantly finding them on ourselves after being out in our yard. I couldn't even walk to the mailbox without a parasitic encounter. Seriously. And I'm not a huge fan of pesticides; however, after the husband and I were both bitten by ticks and endured the subsequent antibiotic treatments and Lyme tests, we decided it was time to seek out a lawn treatment service. Enter: TruGreen! Little did I know at that time that we were unleashing a crazed, lawn-obsessed lunatic hiding deep inside of my husband. Pesticides alone were not enough. Ohhhh no. We *need* fertilizer and lime treatments and overseeding and yadda yadda yadda. I like a nice lawn myself, but... wow. If hiring a full-time groundskeeper was in our budget, I suspect we'd probably have one. Anyway, the pesticide treatments provided by TruGreen were the highlight of their services. We have not found a single tick since they started, and I am sincerely grateful for that. I no longer have a fear of my own grass, and that's the reason they earn 3 stars. Grubs were also a problem for us, but we still have some issues with that. Lime and fertilizer treatments were pretty effective. We've seen a significant decrease in weeds, aside from a few patches of crabgrass that never relented. Supposedly we should water the grass more during dry spells (*eye roll*), so I can't blame TruGreen for that. Unfortunately, the beginning of the end with TruGreen was earlier this year when their chemicals significantly wilted and shriveled the bottom 12" on ~20 of our shrubs. I was particularly pissed because we planted them ourselves to create a long hedge, and I could only imagine having to do it again if the shrubs all died. My husband complained, and TruGreen sent someone out promptly to take a look. They left a note saying that the plants would be fine soon with some rain. Umm, okay. However, the next treatment led to more wilting, so my husband called to cancel. It was just from the chemical drift, they said. They wanted to make it right, but on the basis that they were already aware of the issue and it happened again, we declined. I'm not sure if their chemicals changed since last year (our services certainly didn't), or if their application method changed (they said it hadn't), but the shrubs were not a brand new addition and we had no issues previously. The plants still look fairly damaged, and although they don't appear to be dying, I'm keeping a close eye on them. The growth has completely stopped on the bottom 12" on each one. I am not happy. So, we're taking our (excessive) lawn care needs elsewhere. The competitor we found charges less and uses natural repellants - plus they have solid Yelp reviews. Nice! We shall see... read more

One of the worst customer service experiences of my life, without exaggeration. To start - they charged me for services that were never performed. Not only does this bring into question the integrity of all billing and services provided, but they then went on to try sticking me with the bills anyway, and tried to argue and blame me for the problem over the phone - I've never had such a heated exchange with a customer service rep, it's unbelievable that these guys are even still in business. Then, even for the services that we did want, their organization is so dysfunctional that there is apparently no communication internally, as we often had people showing up to perform the wrong services, on the wrong days, with incorrect information about what we wanted done at the house. And now since we've canceled our service, I've had to speak with several individuals within the company (both national headquarters and local branch) just to communicate the fact that we are cancelling. This was well over 2 months ago - we are STILL getting calls from them to this day trying to schedule services. My only positive experience with them was with the Technician that came to do our lawn assessment for their first visit. He was very knowledgeable and helpful... It's too bad that the management there makes it impossible to work with the real experts. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service!! Personable salesman sold us on seasonal lawn service (weed control & fertilizing) and 1 "Hort Plus" spring service (tree & shrub treatment)...cost? Over $700! They want us to sign up for more tree & shrub treatments, but I can't get anyone to come to house to show me what they see in terms of insect, etc damage. Multiple phones calls. Apologies given. Promises made. WAIT...finally got an appointment for this evening with someone --but they never showed up. Another phone call. More apologies. More promises. Think I'm done. I have had TruGreen Lawn Care for three years now. The first year I was pleased with their service. Last year their service was spotty and not appropriately timed according to their own schedule. However, this year has been a disaster! They treated my lawn on May 15th (two treatments at the same time???); then two months later I called their office because they never did another service. Told me they were sorry, but they could not get back to my yard for another two weeks! Called again the beginning of August because my yard was full of weeds! I had to put in a special request for an additional service (at no charge.) Finally after a week to ten days my yard started to look better. Told me to call other places that we wouldn't get a better price. While I was talking to her to say that most of our backyard was taken up by our pool, she actually hung up on me. This is the second time that I have dropped them as a lawn care company. Both times for the same reason, WEEDS! Our current home has a fenced in back yard and a nice front yard. We started service in the spring and by September the front yard had started to look better, but the back yard still had over 50% weeds per square foot. When I called to complain, I was told that they can send out the lawn guy to treat it. Since he'd been there a few times during the summer, you would think he'd noticed the weeds! My neighbor also uses TruGreen and has also complained about bad service. I feel like I deserve 50% of my money back! NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

Over the last 8 days I have spoken to 4 TruGreen representatives; I have an invasive weed that is taking over my lawn. Have received several different answers: a service manager will be out to discuss the issue and evaluate your lawn or the technician knows just what to apply and we you won't be charged for the service. If the technician is so knowledgeable why is my lawn full of weeds? Up to this point no one has been scheduled to come look at my yard and when I follow-up each person points to the other person for dropping the ball. Came home and saw this fertilizer everywhere on my sidecar garage driveway I mean lots of them. Then I saw a note from Truegreen which I never signed up with. Then I went out and find out they took over or merged with Lawndough. Cancelling the service since I had very very bad experience with Truegreen in the past too... Don't sneak up on me again please.... I did call the customer service before someone from Truegreen replied to my review here but the representative replied this "This never happens I guess serviceman was not handling the thing right.Sorry" I asked my neighbour about the service from Truegreen did the same day as mine . Their older daughter said this "We saw white stuff all over the driveway since my little sister came in and said it already snowed...." Don't you guys have a trained Technician to handle this ? If I could give negative stars I would. This is a huge company so they know how to get your business, bill you, make sure you paid... When it comes to the actual product my lawn hasn't really changed in 2 years and, as others have said, the "service" is abysmal. I have called too many times to count and got a call back once at the end of the season. By that time I was caught up in some personal life stuff and didn't have the energy to deal with it. I figured things would get better bc I just knew I was going to be able to reach someone who gave a f*%#. Zero f*%#s given! I even got an email asking me to rate my satisfaction. For too long we have persevered with this nationwide behemoth. The last straw came when they didn't make our consultation appointment for the spring/summer season of 2012, or even call to apologize for not doing so. Throughout the day I called to check on the status and each time they couldn't give me an answer or even an apology. We were a customer for many years and each year we had an issue of some sort to fix. Last summer they did such a terrible job that they gave us the whole year of treatments for free, that is after I threatened to bring it to the attention of the better business bureau. They said that they would make an extra effort this year. Not. Happily we have found a smaller and much more capable local competitor. I gave these guys all kinds of breaks over the 10+ years plus I have had them and the companies they took over. Their work is very poor these days and they spend allot of time up selling their various programs. Last Summer was the worse and I fired them as they did a terrible job on my lawn and it looked terrible. They talked me into the tree and shrub program and their technician Jacob was down right stupid and could not answer any of the questions when I ask about the various problems with some of my bushes and no matter what I showed him he hit them with the same spray. DO NOT USE THEM AS YOU WILL WASTE YOUR MONEY (very expensive) and your lawn, tree and shrubs will look worse than if you did nothing. I am so angry as I have spent allot of money and now I have to find someone to fix this disaster. I recently read all their reviews and this company should be shut down by the state attorney general.
