They sent an offer for 8 treatments for so much for the season. In THE FINEST PRINT POSSIBLE, they stated it was a subscription service and would not stop until I cancelled it!! So, when the new season started, they began charging me an individual price for each treatment which was about the same price as the "deal" from the previous season! All of that being said, there were parts of my yard they did nothing to!! A VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!! I will never use them again, nor would I recommend them! Worked for them for 4 days total. day 1-3 they literally handed me a book & had me watch videos which would be normal, typically. No hands on training or explanation of tools or any sort of operations of the actual job beyond a walk thru of the shop pointing at things & then going back to training room. I come in my 4th day to them saying they were sending me across Iowa to Cedar Falls with this other guy i was training with to drop off a van of theirs to another branch location - then we were going to go from there to Fort Dodge for this test for chemical applicator license that they told me when they hired me was on southside of des moines originally . Only on day 4 did they have us going to attempt this test (that we clearly are NOT ready for or going to pass) - not only running an errand almost all the way out of the state for them as brand new employees that still need to learn the job- but in a truck with a governor in it that wont exceed 65 miles per hour traveling a few hundred miles across the state !! I respectfully turned the vehicle around at an exit 20 minutes into the drive as traffic i could not keep up with fully because traffic on these highways exceeds 75 mph sometimes with the speed limit being 70 (higher than in city limits of des moines / ankeny area where our shop is). On top of this, the GPS i had been sent out with wasn't working & I didn't really come to work with a phone charger to endure this long trip across Iowa for the day! Kevin when i got back asked me for my hat & snatched it of my hand aggressively & told me i could get the f*** out of there - in no shape or form did i disrespect him or even make the process of quitting difficult he was just mad I wasn't down to be their puppet- gaslighting & pretty childish response given I'm 28 & he is like 55 . Pretty unprofessional & pointless to send new trainees on a cross state errand of yours that simply want to learn the trade & be set up for success then have the nerve to treat them like that all because they don't want to be put in a bullcrap / all day long scenario at a the drop of a pen to travel across state all day long! Then have to do it again when we would fail the test lol! Long as management gets paid though , hurt my situation losing the job because the lies & gaslighting. Used them last summer, to no great effect. At the end of last summer, I called to cancel my last treatment and to tell them I had no interest in continuing with them. Fast forward to March of this year. I get an auto-call saying they will be out on March X to treat my lawn. I try to cancel online. Nope, you've gotta call. Okay, so I call. It'll be a three-hour wait, but if you want them to call you when your turn in the queue comes up, press 1. Okay, press 1. No call. Next day, no call. Dig deeper into the website, and find a customer service email address. Email that 1) I cancelled last summer and nothing has changed. 2) I have no interest in bringing them back. 3) This is my formal notice that I am permanently cancelling any and all services with truGreen. 4) My previous credit card used for billing has expired, and I will not be providing a new card number. No response for multiple days. I try calling again. This time, it's a two-hour wait, but if I want them to call when my turn in the queue comes up, press 1. This time, about two-and-a-half hours after I press 1, I get a call back. I cancel service on the phone. Two days later, they show up while I am at work and service the lawn. Two days after that, I finally get an email from customer service saying that my account shows as cancelled. A week after that, I get a bill for the service I cancelled multiple times. If this sounds like your cup of tea, go on with your masochistic self. read more

started service in July of 2022 had very bad problem with creeping Charlie they came out and started the process I don't know what they used but by the end of the 4th treatment it had basically spread into through half my back yard then we start watching the video from our ring turns out guy wasn't even doing the whole yard just the front and that was a hit in miss called them told them what we had seen on video this lady was trying to make me change my mind but I stood firm I told her I wanted service cancelled they came out again so again I called told them to cancel service and why. Horrible customer service. Came home to them aerating my yard without me ordering it. Cut my invisible fence in multiple spots and put holes in my irrigation lines. Four inches of rain the day before they showed up yard,driveway and street covered in mud. Thousand of dollars to fix this. After 30+ years, we have fired this company. Here are a few of the reasons: 1) showing up on prior to scheduled date; putting fertilizer and pre-emergent down right before we dumped 20 ton of dirt on our yard; no $ adjustment made 2) not returning to inspect on promised follow-up days 3) not returning promised calls within 24 hours (7 days later, got voicemail, called number back, got out of state csr) 4) burning a circle around our evergreen ( no $ adjustment made) 5) getting charged for entire yard for weed control, when only spot spraying was applied; no $ adjustment made 6) no way to get ahold of a service manager. I do not believe they even have service managers any more. They could not tell me who my sm is now or give me a number to call. I could go on, but it's too painful to relive. TruGreen's customer service is non-existent compared to past years. They do not care if they retain a client; apparently they have enough big corporate accounts to keep them afloat. Last year the service technician sprayed ME while in the yard and this year they came and sprayed and left no signs in our yards and no notice on the door. I send my kids outside to play, they were playing football and rolling around in the grass and then THE NEXT DAY I get a notice that the sprayed the yard! My Dad died back in January, a couple months later TruGreen came out and said they treated his yard. They didn't have permission to do the application. Now they want paid. I tried to resolve an issue with them for over a month with my on line app. At least 20-30 phone calls, several chats and emails and I was always informed it would be fixed or it was fixed. To date it hasn't been. As of Monday they decided to use my credit card to charge someone else's service for. I informed them that was my credit card and we'd already told them to take it off the other persons account. They obviously don't keep notes from previous conversations with customers or my issues would have been resolved in a few days. Would not recommend them for any reason! Customer service is not just useless, but rude to the point that they're almost hostile. This company claims to chemically treat your yard and shrubs for weeds, grubs, ants etc... And they offer aeration. It's expensive and not effective. They do not mow lawns. They will also "ghost" your lawn if you're not home. As in, they do not treat your lawn, but they flag it like they have and then bill you. And it can be pretty costly. Such a scam. read more

Wow, came on here to leave a review and basically saw 4 other reviews that had the same experience! Customer service is not good because you talk to a call center out of state. They did our 1st treatment in May but only fertilized because they said it was too early to apply weed killer. A week later I had 10 different weeds popping up all over the yard. I called and they say they came out to spray for weeds. Called 10 days later for them to come out again. Still had weeds everywhere. Got the auto call that they would be out June 1 for the 2nd treatment, that was a no show, called them and they said sorry they would be out June 9, again another no show. I called them and cancelled and got my money back. I told my wife with as many weeds that we have it's like they never applied any weed killer at all and after reading other reviews I see there is a name for that, they "ghost" your yard. I firmly believe that when they did show up all they did was stick the signs in the yard and leave. It's the end of June and we still have dandelions, lots of clover, thistles, creeping Charlie and others. Horrible service and they should be turned in to the Better Business Bureau. Trugreen salesman was great at promises, but short on delivering. Promised to eradicate my lawn of weeds if I just signed up for full, prepaid year. After a couple of treatments I tried to complain, without results. Three times I caught the specialist packing up and leaving before treating whole yard. Bottom line, lawn visible from street is healthy and relatively weed free but back and side yard looks untreated. I believe each treatment was done by a new employee, thus not sure if anyone of them were really trained. Each time I talked to them I was told they were new with the company. I just decided lesson learned until a salesman tried to talk me into signing up this year. I invited him over to see my lawn multiple times, but he was only interested in signing me up again, and ONLY THEN he would make it right concerning his "guarantee". So, I am saving hundreds of dollars by doing it myself, and doing all of the yard. read more

Told my husband and I what he was going to do and was attentive to our concerns with our yard. The app has been great to be able to pay and keep me updated on when and where the tech is. This service has been a nightmare. The first service was to reseed the grass around the new garage. The technician started aerating our front yard instead. We asked him what he was doing, and he said he didn't know what services we needed. He decided to just guess and start aerating. We had 4 treatments (4 months worth) for weeds. Only the front yard was done EVERY TIME. We called 3 different times, to get the backyard done (this was outside of the regular treatments) and they still only did the area in front of the garage. They never did the back. The manager finally came out and did our back yard 4 calls later. 6 months into our service, they started adding on extra services without notifying us. They charged us for them too with no notification! We cancelled the service after that. These people are lazy, have no pride in their work, and will take advantage of you. DON'T USE THEM! read more

I've had a great experience. with Tru Green. I have been fighting "Creeping charlie " for years. I had limited success but my neighbors never did anything so it just keeps coming back. Finally my neighbor started using Tru Green. I signed up as well and they have really made a great improvement. Unlike some of the other reviews, I have had a very positive customer service experience. I had a large construction project cut my yard space in half about mid summer. they were very helpful in working a credit on future service. I have never been "ghosted" as I have watched the treatment even when they did not know I was home. read more

Absolutely terrible service!! TruGreen uses 3 times the amount of fertilizer in order to charge you three times what you really need to pay. Then because they over saturate your grass with nitrogen you get fungal damage every year and then if that's not bad enough getting bent over they try to blame it on the customer. Then let's not get into how many times I was charged 70$ when in reality no technician treated my property. When I talked to the technician she stated that she is given more stops then she can complete so she is forced to skip some!!! WTF Now I get a phone call from TruGreen every week. After 3 times to my home they still did not aerate the entire lawn. Very disappointing

TruGreen was supposed to drop off flags so I could mark my underground pet fence before lawn aeration. Instead they unexpectedly showed up and did a full aeration on my yard and broke the pet fence. Called the support number and the customer service representative saw they were only supposed to drop off flags for aeration today and do an aeration at a later date. Beyond angry! read more

My experience: This may seem much like the review below because I ran into the exact same issues. -Very difficult business to work with. First I called the number found on the internet. I didn't realize I was talking to an out of state call center and not with our local TruGreen business. -Every bit of communication was miscommunicated between the Dallas call center and the local. Every time I tried to call to find out what was going on, I ended up talking to another call center in yet a different state. -They "Ghosted" my lawn and charged me for TWO treatments. I tried disputing and they did offer to credit one of the treatments, but alas, the credit never showed up. So, I cancelled. Will never use them again. For my $1200 for two years, I will do it myself. VERY VERY VERY VERY HARD to cancel/get in touch with ANYBODY who actually knows what is going on regarding accounts and they NEVER return calls/internet inquiries read more

Most expensive lawn service I've paid for yet and our lawn looks horrible. I called for a retouch service and they came out but it still looks horrible. Kid came out for regular service and left a note saying the lawn looks great ...not sure who's lawn he was looking at. Called again for retouch service and was told a manager would come out to check it then the woman just rescheduled me with our regular serviceman without anyone else coming out. Finally was able to speak with a manager. He said someone would call Monday and come out Tuesday. It's Tuesday - no call and no service. I'm beyond livid. I call customer service and it's an out of state number and they'll have someone call me back. Horrible customer service and far too expensive for lacking results. Would not recommend! read more

Did a great job! Really improved the health and appearance of the yard. Now all I have to do is mow and keep it looking nice! That is a huge time-saver over having to try to time the right moment to put on fertilizer or yard treatment. We use to use Scott's Lawn Care-Great Company. They merged with Tru Green and it's the worst service ever. They are suppose to come after a certain time and call the night before. We have not received a call. Started the service early spring, canceled out account in June. Sales rep called, promised me the moon. They would call "EACH AND EVERY TIME", "THEY WOULD SHOW UP AFTER 10AM" so my dog has time to use the yard and won't need it for several hours. They've been here 3 times since the promises. First time a free insect application I didn't even want,no call and before 9 am. Not so free after my poor dog vomited his weight for a full 24 hours and had a Vet bill. Fortunately he got better. The second time they came at 8:30am, still no call. Today they came at Noon, but still NO CALL. So we sent them away without treatment. Then THEY got a call-CANCEL OUR SERVICE. NEVER would I do business with them again. AND more weeds than what we ever had with Scott's Lawn Service. It's a shame when the big guys swallow up the one's who are giving great service and customer care. read more

We used TruGreen when we first moved to Ankeny. All went well until they had a hose leak during one of the applications. We called them to discuss how to fix the large area that was burnt. They were more worried about pointing the finger at someone else. We didn't care who did it, just wanted it fixed. The supervisor came out and said "your neighbor must have had a leak & it ran into your yard".... He uses them ever day in his job. Poor Customer service, when they screw up. Same complaints as everyone else. I can NEVER talk to locals, it's always other states. They have never resolved my issue with weeds. They do not post flags except one which is illegal showing the lawn has been treated. Looking at my lawn I doubt it's been treated, if so not all over. I specified 2 areas I especially wanted sprayed well, neither has ever been sprayed. Good luck reaching anyone local, orf anyone for that matter. I was on hold for 22 minutes and hung up. Awful service. Worked with a Dennis initially who is all about the sale but doesn't set important expectations such as automatic renewal. Also initially I told him to hold off on the aeration but showed up one day and it was done and billed. Straw that broke the camels back was they just treated and left the gate open. I've had my ups and downs with TruGreen but they have always done everything within their capabilities to make things right. They are very good at what they do. I have a pretty thick back yard which makes it a bit more difficult to keep the weeds and the crab grass under control. We are working together to get it right. read more

My family cancelled our business with them after a year or treatments. The man who is the "closer" talked to my wife when I was at work and claimed he "needed to speak to me" before finally leaving her alone. I called him and he was the smoothest salesman I've ever experienced. I paid for a full year and there are more weeds today than there were before I joined one year ago. Awful waste of $50 a treatment. Salesman completely lied to me and I will never go with TruGreen again. It's unbelievable how my wife and I still receive 10 calls each per month from random salesmen at TruGreen desperately trying to get us to sign up again. A complete stranger (Random TruGreen salesman) even texted my wife today after she didn't answer and said "can we talk later today?" If they keep calling my wife (even after I've already told them several times to take her number out of their system) I am going to press charges. It's become harassment from the salesmen at TruGreen. Go somewhere else if you're looking for lawn "care." read more

If i could give them zero stars i would. I called to inquire about their services. Was informed about the mosquitoe and pest control service which sounded phenomenal to me since i am allergic to the little blood suckers and get huge half dollar sized welts with each bite. I live on 4 acres. I was forthcoming with that information from the go. I told them i wanted to get as much as i could. Was informed the could spray upto 3700 sq ft. Dont know exactly how much that breaks down into but ok whatever. He said it would cover the 4 acres that is all that mattered to me. They call and say they will be out on Tuesday. When the tech shows up she doesn't have enough product to do the job nor is she given the time to do it. Ok not her fault. She can only work with the info given to her. I call them up and they say they have to do a remeasure. Ok whatever. They call me back in 2 days and say the price is going up from 180 dollars to 400. Um how bout no. I was quoted a price. I signed up because of that price and what i was promised. If you cant do it cancel my service. She says ok let me talk to my GM he is right around the corner. Comes back on and says that they dont have the equipment to do my yard. Hmmm could of said that from the word go but no you misled me to beleive you could. Horrible customer service. We initially signed up for six treatments, and didn't receive the discount we were promised. We were later charged for a service we didn't receive. When the bill came in the mail and we called to dispute it, they argued and told us we did receive the service, and must pay or it will go to collections. Terrible! We "fired" this lawn care company 3 times and they keep coming back!!!! How do you make it any more clear (please know that we call and complain and do not pay and that is a fight in and of itself). We tell the tech, before the service, to not come back until we talk with someone, and they just show up a couple days later and do the service!! Our lawn is the worst looking lawn on our block and they said the reason why was "too much shade". Seriously? We have zero, I repeat, zero shade in our yard. There is a serious lack of communication between the call center, service techs, managers, and customers. If I could only talk to the local manager, but the call center seems opposed to that. They have also done expensive add on services without our ok numerous times, again we fought with them and didn't pay. They said, "you had ok'ed it with Scott's lawn care which we bought", well ok...I liked Scotts and trusted them...not you. Wow!! Where to start,first they over fertilized part of my yard anb killed it. Second thing was they didn't do any weed killer cause it was to early for it,week and a half later I had to pull and spray the damm weeds because they were everywhere. So I called the 800 number thinking I would talk to someone here in my own state. Ha!! Silly me I should of known better. So I fired them. Few days later I get a call from the branch manager apologizing and that he'll make it right get his best man up there to look my yard over and see what can be done. So going against my better judgement I agreed. The guy shows up and says this and that and it sounds good to me and I say ok lets start over and do great things for my yard. But the dead part can't be fixed intill fall because the prime seeding and grow time is over. What really did you really just say that!! But I let them do their thing anyway. So they call me and tell me weather permitting they be there,well they never showed about 4 days later my credit card is billed so I call the office leave a message waite 3 days for a call back tell the manager what happened and he's stumpped doesn't know whats going on but will call me back. A week later still no call so I call get him the manager, I'm told by him that he'll figure it out and get back to me, about 6 hours later a trugreen tech shows up no call nothing and does my yard. Next treatment was a week ago, they show up do their thing, put their little flag things around the yard leave a nice pile of fertilizer in my gutter but no explanation of what they did. On Monday of this week I look at my credit card and it's 40 some dollars to much. So my wife calls the 800 number they tell her that was for grub control. When she tells them that shouldn't be a charge because it's part of our package, they say no it's not and there is nothing that they can do. So I called the manager and tell him what's going on, he tells me that he needs to do some checking and will call me right back, that was Monday it is now Thursday and I have to call! His excuse was he forgot, really!! You forgot, so that was the last straw I told that there services will no longer be needed!! Goodbye!! If this had a -1 I would of used that instead. read more
