Got introduced to TruGreen through a referral. I was in need of a lawn treatment to green the grass up and also reseed the grass. The rep arrived and treated the front lawn and moved to the back. Once in the back, he informed me that I had more weeds than grass. He explained if he treated the yard my yard would be brown for the summer. I opted to wait until the fall, and keep my illusion of a green back yard for the summer. I have been having issues dealing with TruGreen lawn maintenance for over two years now. I would call and would be promised a retreat on my yard. The variety of weeds in my backyard is multiplying each week. I have indicated to their representatives who answer the phone that it does not do any good to come out on Thursdays because that is when the lawn mowing service is performed. They cannot see the full effect of the variety of weeds that are multiplying on that day. The last lady I talked to at TruGreen indicated that they show no retreats being done on my yard. I can assure you that I have made several calls. I would assume those should be noted in their computer system. I live in a townhouse so the size of my yard is small, but that should not be the main reason for not being able to reach someone to come out to discuss the issues over the last two years, and none of my issues being resolved. Some of the issues need to be resolved on their side, and that is not being done. Apparently, they have an internal issue of not telling the yard techs or the yard techs not doing the retreats if they are told about them. I am trying to reach someone outside of the Texas area to ask questions about their quality process and the lack of it not being reviewed from time to time. I am not the only one on my street who has been having problems with getting TruGreen to treat customers' lawns in accordance with their advertisements and correct issues in their quality process when they are made aware of them. Do Not Use TruGreen. Here's My Full Experience. As a new homeowner in Houston, I was looking for a reliable landscaping and pest control company. I usually choose local businesses, but TruGreen kept showing up first in my search results. Clearly, they pay top dollar to appear at the top, but the service I received was far from premium. I decided to give them a try despite multiple friends and family members warning me not to. They all said the same thing. TruGreen is overpriced, unreliable, and inconsistent. People mentioned that even after prepaying for services in monthly or yearly bundles, TruGreen would often claim to have completed a visit when they never came. When I was contacted by Joseph, the Houston account manager, I shared my concerns. He promised me that his branch was different. He said they had strong numbers, and he personally gave me his word that the negative stories I had heard would not happen to me. I believed him and paid for a full year of services in advance. I was excited when I received two notifications that pest control and lawn care would happen that week. Pest control was first. I was told I didn't need to be home. The technician came and left a report saying he applied pest control chemicals and removed a wasps nest. That nest was untouched. One of the services I specifically confirmed with Joseph was not done. I sent Joseph a voice memo and photos of the wasps nest still there. He apologized and said someone would return. A month passed and no one came. I followed up again. Joseph told me he would handle it and said he would speak with his district manager. I told him that because of the inconvenience, I should receive an additional service. He agreed to look into it. Another week passed. Still no word. I called customer service and explained the situation. They offered to send someone out for free. That is not a favor. I had already paid for the service. Being offered something that should have already been completed is not a resolution. At that point, I asked to cancel my services. The representative did not try to keep my business or ask how they could improve. They simply processed the cancellation and told me I would get a refund. Later I learned the refund was only for future services. They kept the money for the incomplete service I complained about. I left a review as they requested, thinking someone would follow up. Weeks have passed. No response. If you are considering using TruGreen, please save yourself the frustration. They overpromise and underdeliver. Once I started sharing my story, I heard even more terrible experiences from people I know. This is not how a professional company should operate. Absolutely terrible experience with TruGreen. My lawn is in worse shape now than before they started. I genuinely don't believe the technician treated my backyard at all--there were no signs of product, no difference in appearance, and when someone finally came out to inspect, they casually admitted that the technician "gets a lot of complaints." Despite that admission, no one offered a solution, a follow-up treatment, or even an apology. Just shrugged shoulders and poor service. The two pictures of the perfect grass is when I was doing it before--- True Green I do not recommend TruGreen for Saint Augustine lawns at all. Since starting with them, my grass has only gotten worse. Every treatment they've applied has damaged my Saint Augustine, and it has not grown back. Instead of improving, Bermuda grass has started taking over my yard. They insist they don't seed, but every single time after they spray, I see Bermuda popping up the very next day. One side of my yard is now almost 80% Bermuda, and after their most recent visit, even my front yard is being taken over. They claim to guarantee results, but I have not seen any guarantees honored. Each treatment has left my lawn looking worse, not better. It feels like they simply put down whatever product they have without knowing or caring what it actually does to Saint Augustine. In my experience, they cannot control how your yard looks, and they do not provide the results they promise. If you value your Saint Augustine grass, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I think another problem is they send unexperienced people and you never get the same person at least in my experience I think they overspray and burn the grass one person to the next doesn't know what the last one did. I truly regret calling True Green I do believe my Saint Augustine would have thrived And everyone I talked to said Saint Augustine will crowd Bermuda out, but because I prematurely called True Green this is what my grass looks like today. I will post two photos of a before and this is all the after since True Green has sprayed and used pellets on my yard. Everything you read online tells you never fertilize in the summer and they come out and they have fertilized my grass. They should know better. Met salesman Craig M who entered my address for a quote based on the size of my yard. Never agreed to the "yes" option in the text nor verbally agreed or authorized the service. A tech arrived at my home yesterday and supposedly treated my yard. Only the front yard mind you. Again I never agreed to the overpriced service. The only reason I knew he visited, they left a lawn placement sign in the front yard. I'm sure some people have had success with this company but there should have been more follow up to confirm a resident is interested. Craig told me the story of a co-worker being fired for doing the exact same thing he did by falsifying contracts. So much for being a minister. People, be aware of this practice. read more

I have never had this bad of luck with a company in my life. The first issue is the lack of communication when scheduling. I have dogs that go in and out. Very unproffesional do not hire these people. The lady was really rude for no reason. Said they were coming two days straight but didn't show because of rain even though it didn't rain in my area. At least could have communicated but I had to wait forever for them to respond. I called and lady was really rude and told me to cancel because they are backed up. To top it off they took the liberty to schedule multiple visits and already had me "on route" Aeven though they we'rent planning on coming so the app wouldn't let me cancel. They killed my yard, pure and simple. It was a lush green Zoysia grass lawn. Thick, green and vibrant. All I needed was fertilizer type maintenance. Within days of the first application the yard starting turning yellow. I called and was told it was weeds (there were none) dying from the application of a pre-emergent. They sent out a truck and they reapplied the emergent which killed the grass. A $6000 re-sod if my yard was RUINED. They offered two free future applications which was woefully inadequate. And why would I want more of the treatment that killed my yard Total incompetence and they just don't care. read more

TruGreen came and put double the amount of weed killer/fertilizer on my yard. Granted, the weeds died, but so did the grass. I had a nice lawn, and now, after waiting a year, hoping to have some grass come back, I ONLY have DIRT in my yard. TruGreen ruined my lawn, and destroyed the soil in my yard. They said everything was calibrated, but if two guys both go over the lawn with chemicals (they were stoned), it will kill the grass and harm the soil. I wanted to sell my house and now will be out thousands and thousands of dollars, re-sodding the front yard - a corner lot. Their customer service was 100 percent useless and actually rude. My fault that their guys ruined my yard. And, yes, I did water,but all that did was cause the massive amount of chemicals to seek further into the soil. And, to top it off, one guy spread the chemicals all over a huge area of gravel - since when does gravel need fertilizer? So far, the rocks did not grow, so that was useless. I seriously believe the two workers were stoned. I tried to talk to them and they could not respond properly. One year later and even my neighbors are pissed off at TruGreen. It is the highlight of my neighborhood discussion. From nice yard that had compliments to a yard full of dirt. Just plain old DIRT. Did I mention that I do NOT recommend TruGreen. How about TruDIRT. We hired TruGreen earlier this year to fertilize the grass along with trees and scrubs. We have a pond that we have raised from babies Koi and gold fish. We had 4 Koi, approximately 25" long and approx 20 gold fish 4-5" long. TruGreen was told at the very beginning to stay 6-7 feet away from the pond. I was assured that they would, as this was part of their training. After a month of them fertilizing the scrubs, we started loosing fish. For months we scratched our heads trying to figure out what was going on. We tried everything to figure out what was causing our fish to die. So one day a couple of days after they fertilized, I noticed the plants in the pond were burned on top. It was obvious this was caused from the overspray of the fertilizer. There was no other reason for this. This led me to the dying fish. They were poisoned by the fertilizer. I called TruGreen to speak to a manager. That took a few weeks before I heard from anyone. I was able to explain what was happening to the young lady on the phone who assured me that this would not happen again, but it did. Our last scrub and tree fertilizing which was just a few weeks ago, we saw on video the man spraying in the direction of the pond. He was probably a foot away and the wind was pretty strong that day. There was no doubt in my mind that the fish were poisoned by the overspray. The final straw.....last night we found the 2nd to the last Koi dead. These fish were a part of our family. Mow they are all buried in our back yard. Most of them we had for 7-8 yeas. They could not speak but we certainly spoke to them. We connected with them. They were fun to watch. The females gave birth and it was amazing to watch their offspring swim and play and change color as they grew. We had the perfect spot to relax. To listen to the waterfall and the fish as they played. Now, we just have a spot. As for the fertilizing, not good. read more

I wish I could give this company 0 stars. First, all their customer service reps are salesmen and women. They are not there to provide customer support. They are there to get you to buy more services and explain why they are right and you are wrong. They will give you the run around about everything. They are also somewhat inconsiderate because they will talk and talk and talk. Second, I have less grass in my yard than I did before I started these services. The grass I do have doesn't even look that great. I can kill my grass for free but I just put $600+ for TruGreen to do it. I feel like a fool. Please please do not use this company. Third, they do not spend any time in your yard. They show up spray and five minutes later they are gone. I am not positive that they weren't just spraying water in my yard. They have no idea what your yard actually needs. I had to tell them that my yard has pests, diseases, etc. that are killing the grass and roots. I recommend you use a local company and not this chain that clearly does not have your best interest in mind. I have no idea how this company still exists. This company is so bad, they should NOT be in business! Unaware of all the negative reviews, we hired them to eliminate weeds and improve the overall condition of our lawn which was stressed from extreme weather events. They used a weed spray that killed a large section of our landscape plants and groundcover while allowing the weeds to flourish. The lawn looked worse than prior to Trugreen "treatments". We complained and were not taken seriously. The local manager avoided contact with us and sent an underling to assess the damage to our plants. He made light of the situation and said that all he could offer us was $100 so we could buy new plants. The offer was insulting and so was he. No one from Trugreen that "serviced" our lawn was trained or knew anything about lawn care or gardening...NO one shared information or knew what services had already been done. One recommended that we have the lawn aerated...that service was done months before. Another tried to tell us that a tree had fungus growing on it, we pointed out that the black marks were pruning tar...idiots. Forget about "customer service", it's a farce, there is ONE main number for all calls and NO one in "customer service" takes ANY responsibility for solving problems. You cannot reach the same individual to assist you. I insisted that they reimburse us for the damages to our property but the local manager continued to refuse adequate compensation. Long story short, we cancelled the "service" and six months later they claimed that we still owed them for 2 services! I had proof of payment from my credit card, but they continued to insist that we owed them because they couldn't find the payment on their books. We are not responsible for their incompetent bookkeeping. After they sent many rude emails and phone calls I was finally able to contact the corporate office and put an end to the nonsense. They NEVER acknowledged that we had paid them, but agreed to "let it go" and give us 'partial credit' for the damage to our plants. It is still not adequate compensation for the plants lost, but worth it to no longer deal with anyone from this horrible excuse for a business! Very disappointed. Last year we purchased our house and the lawn was in bad shape. I called TruGreen and was promised a full healthy lawn. I prepaid for a couple of services for a year (not cheap). Today, eight months later, I saw a charge on my credit card and called TruGreen. I was told that I had exhausted all of the prepaid applications. I told the rep that I paid for an annual plan. The rep then told me that the plan is for a year but you only prepay for a certain amount of applications during that year and the balance of the applications are billed each time. That's one: The other is that both of my neighbors on either side of my house do not use a lawn service, and eight months down the line my lawn does not look any better than my neighbors. That's two: I have called TruGreen to discuss my lawn's poor health several times (as allowed by their guarantee) and the only thing they do is send a tech to re-spray the lawn and that's the guarantee. No money back, no offer to analyze the ground or lawn, and no one from TruGreen has ever knocked on my door to discuss the poor condition of my lawn. That's two: Then yesterday I received TruGreen's customary text that a tech had treated my lawn but when I checked the cameras I saw he only did the front yard and not the back yard. I had never bothered to check this before so who knows how many times this has happened in the past. I told the rep about this and she did not seem concerned. I told her I wanted to cancel the service and offered me a 10% discount. I again told her about my lawn's consistently poor condition and she offered me a 20% discount. I said no to that and requested to cancel the service. The rep did not mention sending a tech to complete the treatment on the backyard. She only said she was canceling the service, and that's three. They schedule a service and did not show up multiple times and did not notify the reasons for missing appts. First time they came and gone without notice and forgot to apply weed control. Well, I signed up with Trugreen in order to get rid of the weeds in my lawn. I was with them for about eight months and I still have tons of weeds. I kept calling and they would come out for other service and I still have pretty much as many weeds as I started with. My lawn looks absolutely no better. Maybe even looks a little worse. However, paying well over $1000 for both tree and shrub services, I expected a high level of service. I would caution anyone before doing business with this company. They claim you will get a quote under 2 minutes - When you go to the website, they ask for your zipcode, then the next page wants your address - it ask the best way to get to you, email or phone, but you have to fill out both. Once you submit you never get your quote, at the top of the web site you can click on get quote, but it goes to a new page to set you up as a customer. All they wanted was my information that was harvested it through the website. Sure enough, recieved both a phone call and text message - but no email. The call from them originated from Charleston, WV, but I am in Houston Texas. I called Trugreen with the number that was text from an AI person called Katie. When you call you are connected to sales. When I told them of this bad experience, the Sales person claimed he was there to sell and set up new customers. He finally connected me to customer service in which I was on hold for 6 minutes. I have been a customer for about 7 years. I contract for the year for lawn and scrub/ tree service. Seems that the scheduling and customer service is a joke. ( the reps are friendly but just tell you whatever you want to hear- there is no one to speak with that has supervisory position) The treatment results that guarantee a " green lawn" are a joke, also. However, the service people that do the work are nice/ friendly but they just follow a plan that is set for every lawn without any treatment plan for a specific lawn concern.
