Mom hired them for her lawn in Detroit. The first year was good. The 2nd year they started going down. The 3 year is awful and here is why. We started noticing weeds coming back and mom called them. Supposedly they came but nothing changed and we can't tell if they came or not outside of the small flags they put in the yard but the yard did not improve at all. Then all of a sudden the entire corner of one side of the yard turned yellow and died after their last visit. Mom called again and was promised someone will be there on an agreed upon time so mom can understand what's happening because the Truegreen is truly yellow now. No one showed up. Customer service is always 5 stars. I have had all of my issues resolved whenever I needed to call. The service techs ran over my internet line when aerating the yard. They also seeded our yard and got grass seed everywhere, including the garden. The next 2 months I was pulling grass blades out of the garden. The fertilizer services always pretty good. It took 8 trips I think, but eventually our yard was weed free. Extra visits are free, which is really nice. They came put one to two times a month at no extra cost to keep battling the weeds. I won't keep the service next year as our yard is pretty good, but my plan is to use them every other year to keep our yard healthy and take care of it as best I can the year in between. read more

Just got off the phone with Tru Green Lawn Care. Back in the mid 80'S I worked for this company and when you needed service, we had a person that would come out and DETERMINE what your needs would be and write a quote at that time. Now, I call and get told over the phone what it would cost and NO ONE was to show up to look at my situation. Too bad that they have gone to the "standard" quote and not sending out someone that will give you exact reasons what you need and why. How the hell do you give a quote over the phone without looking at what you are trying to resolve?? Cookie cutter business is not what this should be, it should be a more personalized approach like it was when I worked for them. My lawn was in dire need of help, so I contacted TruGreen. I hired them to come out and perform weed control and fertilizing service. My retired neighbor watched them come while I was at work, and he said that the service person opened the door of his truck, walked a spreader once around my house, left the bill/tag on the front door, and got back in his truck and left. My lawn showed little to no improvement over the course of TruGreen's visits (at $40 a pop). This place is seriously a rip-off. I contacted customer service and a manager named Tom McNish contacted me back, and didn't offer any recompense for the negligent employee. My lawn has never looked worse. They promised to write a report on your lawn condition and spot treat problem areas every visit. They didn't even hit the big problem areas. One time the technician came out and was only there 5 minutes to cover a 60' x 125' lot. The lawn has clover in many areas, crab grass, and some dandelions and several dead areas. I don't even know how you walk by the areas with all the clover and not think there was a problem. It took me several calls to get through. They didn't care about my crappy lawn, they just wanted to give me a 10% discount to keep me as a customer. TruGreen is a MARKETING company pretending to do quality lawn service! WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED! Where do I even begin!? I initially called them to get a quote on having my yard sprayed for Grubs. I was told they couldn't do that until fall. I checked afterward and it should be done spring/early summer which is NOW. I still have not received a phone call back explaining why they lied to me about that. I was talked into the HIGHEST priced lawn service they had by being told it was the ONLY package they had. AFTER researching this, I found that to be a LIE. So I called to CANCEL the service on Trees/Bushes (some kind of oil spraying service). I was told they had cancelled the tree/bush service and lo and behold about a week later I see a TruGreen man in my yard, leaving. He had only been here about five minutes because I noticed the truck five minutes PRIOR to him walking back to it to leave. When I asked him what he was doing he told me he had just performed the oil service on 2 bushes (I have about 12) and ONE Tree (I have about 6). Trying to be fair and understanding, I thought maybe the cancellation hadn't gone through their system and so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought to myself "what do I really know, anyway?" and payment went through. Yesterday, I was scheduled for my first fertilization/weed killer job. TruGreen arrived at 1:59 and by 2:05 he was loading up his truck to leave. I HAVE OVER 30,000 square feet of property! (Almost an acre!) All I SAW him do was go on one side of my front yard in a square and cut down the middle. I don't even believe he went in my back yard. How could he have in 6 minutes? I ran outside as he was putting his equipment on the truck and asked him what he did and he LIED to me and said the whole yard. When I told him that was humanly impossible, he actually started telling me things that were located in my back yard to PROVE to me that he had done the entire yard. lol What a JOKE! He even told me my neighbor had a dog! I asked him, after he and I had been talking and walking around the yard for a couple of minutes what time it was. He replied: 2:10. So, from 1:59 to 2:10 he had the time to fertilize/weed kill my entire lawn, load back up his equipment AND talk to me for several minutes! IT'S A MIRACLE! I am not happy with TrueGreen services. I canceled my TrueGreen service because they charge me for a service that I didn't ask for and lied to me. When I called TrueGreen about their services the salesman told me, I could be on their buy as you go service. The first payment was about 25.00 dollars and 4 or 5 payments of 50.00 dollars. He also said, I would get in my first payment weed control, fertilizer, and over seeding, which I thought was weird. When I asked about the 250.00 dollars payment, he told me to ignore that because it didn't apply to me. So, I when ahead and signed up for their services. However, after four treatments my grass now has big brown spots. After the first three treatments my grass was getting greener, but I still had grabgrass and a few dandelion. I called TrueGreen and told them to cancel my services because I usually spray my own yard and don't get weeds, so why should I pay them more money when I can just do it myself. Plus, they charge me for a service that I didn't ask for nor did I know about. The account manager called me back the next day and told me he would give me a refund for the service I didn't want and they would come out and re-spray my yard for free. Well, 6-23-22 TrueGreen came out and sprayed my yard, which was green and looking pretty good. However, the next day my yard had big brown spots. Now, my yard looks terrible. My yard looked better before TrueGreen services. So now, I am not only out all the money I paid, but I have to repair the damage to my yard. I am sure I will not get the refund that the account manager promised. Do not hire them. They lie about the prices of their services and will kill your grass. Horrible customer Service! Their program automatically renews every year. They called me to let me know they were servicing my yard the next day, which reminded me that I needed to cancel the service for the year. I called right after they left me the message and their phone lines were so busy that an automated person said it would 'keep my place in line' and call me back. No one called me back that day. The next morning a service guy came to do my lawn. I explained to him I didn't want the service, he tells me he needs to finish anyways. ‍ I called to cancel service and they tell me I have to pay for the application anyways. I've told my story to probably 25 people at tru green, each time they either tell me, don't worry you don't have to pay, or that I need to pay anyways. Nothing is consistent. I demand to talk to a manager and instead, have 2 customer service people call me with no authority and no record of my side of the story. I'm fed up! They've sent my bill to collections now. It's $47, but it's the fact that I WOULD have cancelled their service IF their automated service would have called me back! They have horrible customer service. When I looked at the app it said they couldn't complete my service . It was literally a grub control spray. That's it. I than look and there is an invoice stating that it was completed in my account. Going to bill me. After calling customer service and stating the issue , they can't call the rep and get him to come back 30 mins later. God forbid people just use a phone these days . Instead ,they reschedule for this Friday. I have to work but I agreed to hopefully get this one last service completed . If they can lie to you once and than bill you for it i am pretty sure they steal peoples money all the time . DONT DO IT . Oh and don't try to delete your auto payment online. I cancelled the mosquito service due to huge increase in price. Someone called me to see why I cancelled it and offered me a prepay discount plus an additional discount, which I agreed to. I was charged for one month (not full prepay) and it was completely the wrong amount. I had to call five times to try to get it resolved. Customer service is awful. Update: I was contacted by a manager, within minutes of posting this review, from a previous request to speak with a manager. She took care the the issue, was professional and apologetic. read more

Very poor customer service. I had pretty poor service last year. I quit TG at the end of the season One of the sales persons called me this spring and practically begged me to give them a second change. Well I gave them a second AND a third chance and there has been a total breakdown of communication/lack of a service call when I really needed it. I called Monday morning (can only talk to someone outside of the state - they will NOT give out any local numbers) because I have some kind of disease that was spreading fast. I was told I would have someone out in a day or two. I called again Wed afternoon and told them no one had come out yet. They tech person said they will elevate the request. That did nothing! I called again Friday morning and spoke to an out of town tech again, and he also said they will elevate the concern to one of the local managers. As expected that did not yield anything. Meanwhile the disease is spreading more and more. VERY, VERY POOR follow up! I will be calling Monday morning to let the know I am dropping them for good. Maybe that will get their attention. I see a lot of others are having similar issues. It's too bad, because years ago, they used to be a pretty good company, Do not waste your time with them, go to someone who can take your calls locally. read more

Last summer I hired Tru Green. My lawn was worse at the end of the summer after the treatments. The last treatment that I had I made it a point to wait for the tech since I had never actually met with him. The dude was there long enough to throw a few granules of fertilizer and put the bill on the door. He was gone before the app updated. When I spoke to the office they told me that the heat was effecting the weed growth and that they don't do the whole lawn, they just spot weed/fertilize. They also said I would need a more aggressive plan to rid my lawn of the weeds. They knew this all summer but didn't bother to discuss it with me until after I was ready to stop service. I felt that this was dishonest because they were charging me for applying chemicals and knew the weeds were getting worse but just kept banking that money as long as I would pay. I have told them I'm not interested in their service anymore they have solicited me several times. If you are reading this Tru Green..STOP CALLING. I don't trust you and I don't want your services. One star because zero isn't an option. read more

This company is a joke. My lawn never showed any improvement for the year that they treated our lawn. I gave them instructions to not treat the back because of our dogs. So the last treatment the guy entered our backyard while my wife was home and decided to take his rolling pin and roll over some dog shit. Come to find out they were treating the backyard the whole time. Then after treatment 4 our dogs were sick with kennel cough and they don't leave the house or the yard. Not blaming them but I believe there yard treatment is why our dogs got sick. I do not recommend these guys. read more

I was quoted a price that included grub control, fertilizer and weed control. After the first visit, 6/13, I was billed separately for the grub control. That's bait and switch. The exact same thing happened to my sister. I talked to CS who apologized for the "misunderstanding" He gave me a discount on the next 4/5 services. I called CS three weeks ago and was told my next treatment would be 7/11 - no treatment. I called CS today, 7/13, and was told the tech was on his way and she would have him contact me. Nope, tech didn't contact me and there was no treatment. I checked my account on the website and it says my next treatment is 7/18-7/20. Oh, did I mention that my lawn looks like patches of hay AND I have more weeds than before the treatment? My lawn looks an absolute mess. It has never looked this bad. I called to see if they could treat my yard for Creeping Thistle. The girl said yes then went on the big sales pitch. Asked me to sign now to save 50$. I asked If they could come give me a quote and explain what they would be doing to get rid of the thistle (that weed is a monster to get rid of). She again went on with a sales pitch. Finally I said I want someone to come give me a quote. She then said they don't treat creeping thistle. What a joke. This is my second year with the service out of Taylor. They have done a great job, are prompt and informative. Will continue to use them.

Customer for about eight years - multiple properties - trees and shrubs. Had great service up until last year. Have watched techs over the past year on cameras either literally not apply any product at all or cover about 1/4 of property and get back in truck after putting little flag on the lawn. Total time from when truck rolled up to when it left has averaged about 5 minuets total over past year which would make it impossible to walk the property. Trees and shrubs suffering. Most frustrating part is attempting to give them a chance to remedy the issues . When you call you get someone on the other side of the country after going through their frustrating corporate phone system. They wont let you talk to anyone local. Their only solution is to have someone (same person) come back out and reapply. Tried that route 1 time only to have it happen again so called and went through the same process a 2nd time. Thought there is no way this will continue but sure enough watched the same thing happen a third time this week. I then decided I cant keep babysitting this and decided to cancel and hire a local company that hopefully cares a little bit. Cant be worse. Anyways cancelling was as frustrating as the service. Again have to go through their corporate phone system - three calls later get someone I could barley understand in TX (i'm in MI) and told them I would simply like to cancel. After talking in circles for 10 minuets they said they would cancel my service. I asked how much my refund was going to be ( I prepaid the year) and they said they could no longer see any of that info on their screen - couldn't tell me. I asked if there was someone I could talk to that could tell me about the refund - a superior. Was told he wasn't allowed to do that. After asking repeatedly (and nicely) to talk to someone that could help answer my questions he said okay I will transfer you. Then I was coincidentally disconnected. Use this company at your own risk. It will be a waste of your money. I would rate them a zero if it were allowed. Basic service costs in excess of $500 per growing season. When I signed up I was promised, based on my lawn's situation, the basic service would solve all of lawn problems. While the lawn looks better than if nothing was done, it's a far cry from what was promised. Last month, when a salesperson called to try to high-pressure me into "upgrading" my service, I told her of my disappointment with my current service and that's when I was told all of the things I really needed were extra. I declined. A month later the high-pressure salesperson called again and when I reminded her that I was unhappy with the difference between what I was promised and what I actually received, she became rude and demeaning. I had to hang up on her to get her to stop. They allegedly record their calls - something they warn you about when they call - so I hope someone in authority at Trugreen reads this and listens to the call. I prepaid the year, so I'm stuck, but I sure won't be renewing. Do yourself a big favor - stay away! You can do better yourself with some weed and feed. read more

I had hired TruGreen to do two things. Fertilize my lawn and spray for mosquitos. I could not have been more disappointed with the service. So much so that I had to request to cancel it. My yard is 2/3's of an acre. One week, the guy who sprays fertilizer, pulled up in front of my house. Got out of his truck while on his cellphone and stayed on his cell phone while he sprayed some of the front yard and tiny bit of back yard. Not even half of my yard. Still on the phone he got back in his truck and left. I called and explained the problem. Another guy came day two to fix the issue. He explained he could not spray everything and had to guess where to spray because if he did a double application it would kill my lawn. Well, he was right. He doubled over some of the back yard where the first guy did and it killed my lawn. A nice 20x20 foot area all dead. This is just one example of the many times they did not do the full job. It happened with both fertilizing and with the mosquitos. In November I contacted them to make sure everything was paid for and over. I canceled my service. They told me I had a zero balance. 2 weeks later they sent me to collection for two mosquito sprays. When I called to ask what was going on, they explained they must not have looked at the right account. Now I have been fighting that bill for 3 months. They have only called me back once about this issue. They do however call me every week to offer me service for next year. When I tell them about my experience, they tell me there is nothing they can do. I would recommend going to someone local. This big corporation just does not care and has poor customer service in my humble opinion. read more

I contacted them due to a first treatment 1/2 off coupon for lawn fertilizing. The sales rep tried to up sale me for plenty of other expensive services, but I opted to start out with the 4 treatments minimum. He said at the end (after getting my credit card that he was so eager to have) that he was confirming 1/2 off first treatment then 3 more at $64.95 a treatment (which is much more expensive then other lawn companies, but I thought I would give them a try). I confirmed. Later that day in my email I received ANOTHER confirming service email this time at $64.95 for EACH treatment not 1/2 off the first. My only choice was confirm or check other service. So checking other service the automated response was someone will be calling me. A week later I'm still waiting for my lawn service, finally someone called me and left a message at my work. I called while at work to set up service BUT not the number I left to call me direct (odd they took a number off caller ID but not my number I gave to call me). I got a random operator (not Valerie who called me) I asked why they never came out and This rep seemed to have no idea who I was or why I was calling. After a confused few minutes she said oh, yes were waiting because you didn't confirm (I already told her all this). I said I confirmed on the phone and can't understand why they would send an email confirming something different. She said well now it has to go back to the sales rep. I was frustrated because I have crab grass and needed service ASAP. I said when will I get someone out she said I don't know. I said please have someone call me ASAP. A few hours later I called them again. This operator took a minute to figure it out but then said it is waiting for a sales rep to call. I became very frustrated saying I just want my lawn treated asap and someone out to assess it. She said since covid we all work remotely and so it is a slow process (umm, it's been over 2 years of covid). I said how can I get someone to speak to me today? She couldn't do that and said I just have to wait. I finally said you know, what just forget it. She said "OKAY" I said okay?? well I can see I made a good choice. I also sent an email with no response. Apparently, they don't need the business. My mother in law told me to be careful with them because sometimes they bill you and say they were there and don't even come. She is retired and is home so she knows. Coming on here seeing all these stories looks like I made a good choice. Everything happens for a reason...thank god their customer service/organization is so poor because these stories are horrible. I can NOT warn you enough to stay away from Tru Green!! They are a high pressure sales organization with SO MANY hidden cost. If the automated service calls you and you do not pick up on the first ring and decline service, they automatically show and do ADDITIONAL services at a higher rate(Grub Control) I was shocked to see a $100 bill for the week deducted out of my account, so of course I called and they said we chose to do grubs and other services.. I want to share the complaint that I had to send to TruGreen today in order to help folks avoid working with this awful, incredibly rude company.: "I spoke with a customer service representative named [name omitted for decency's sake] on the phone the other day and received a quote for services in my area. After discussing further, my wife and I decided not to go with the service. He called me back today and I informed him of our decision. He was pushy over the phone asking me to reconsider, so after me telling him several times that we were not interested and that we were going to do our lawn ourselves, I hung up in order to tend to my newborn daughter. He then sent a text message to my phone saying "Rude." I have never been personally insulted by a sales person from a company before and am incredibly offended. My wife and I talked about how, if tending to our own lawn this year didn't work out, we were going to use TruGreen next year; after being insulted by a representative of your company, I can guarantee you that I'll absolutely never be using your services." read more
