I knew better than to click on that or to call these fake Microsoft foreign crooks. Immediately I hard shut my computer down and proceeded to pray. I then reboot and get a red screen, then a blue screen. Proceed to reboot again and get nothing! I'm thinking I'm f..ed!! Quick google search on my cell for local computer repair pulls up PC Guyz about 3 miles away in the Roache Brothers plaza on Rt 138 on the Easton / Stoughton line. (There were quite a few nerds to pick from but what do I know except for recent reviews so I chose to go local and crossed my fingers.) On the way there I'm thinking about how I haven't backed up in 3 weeks. I have proposals halfway done. I have emails in draft that need to be sent. I'm thinking how much a new computer is gonna run me etc. As I stepped into the store Dan greeted me and we commenced to chat about what happened and what he would do. He is a thoughtful and friendly guy. Its a fairly small space with the counter and register on the left and a display case in front. In between there's a narrow opening to the rear. His workshop has a bank of computers and lots of plugs on the wall. There were a bunch of laptops on the counter. Obviously much can go wrong and eventually will. Someday you will need a shop and a nerd. I can jump the gun and tell you now come here to PCGuyz if its within your radius. Dan knows his stuff and suggested he run an HP diagnostic which would take 4.5 hrs as I had lots of crap to go through. He said not to worry lol. I called the next day and he was then running a C drive cleaner and said that my hard drive was OK NO VIRUS! Oh boy I'm stoked. When it was done I came in looked him in the eye and said whats the damage thinking has to be 100+. Dan said that in reality all I needed was a tune up and the charge was $50. I'm floored with the outcome, and the honest and affordable service. Much like getting your car fixed your at the mercy of the service man and you just have to hope they are honest. When you find one thats a keeper. I pay Dan and promise him this review. He says word of mouth is best but I say Yelp is the printed word of mouth and I'm glad to help him any way that I can.

Solutions suggested by online techs from the major retailer (who shall remain nameless) sent the virus to my working computer and wiped out my current Windows account. Said retailer, (who shall remain nameless,) then refused to take the computer back. Days later, a Norton tech (one of many companies I worked with online) was able to restore my original Windows account, but with presets lost. I limped along on my project. Then my keyboard failed. I had only the virtual onscreen keyboard. Techs blamed hardware and signed off. We're up to Friday, July 3rd, eve of the 250th celebrations. I knew it was time for an onsite rescue, and a friend recommended PC Mike. I left a desperate phone message, hoping to hear from him after the weekend to make an appointment for a visit the following week. To my surprise, PC Mike called me back a couple of hours later, listened to my woes and said, "Maybe I can solve it from here. Let me sign in and have a look." He was calling from his holiday vacation getaway! It took him less than ten minutes to solve the keyboard problem, and another half hour, less, to solve the problems the techs from the four major companies involved had spent hours on and failed - I had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend! After the holiday, he performed even more amazing feats settling me in properly to this new computer and I can tell you, the mouse-pointer moving around on the screen while he works is like watching a magic act, with incredible results. He not only knows the secrets of menus and internal workings perfectly, but he is also a speed-reader and wastes not a moment of your time. A true Wizard of the Machine! Nice guys who are plenty smart, but they do not have an adequate repair bench for complex computer…read moreproblems, and they don't do a great job of listening to customers. Additionally, they are not diligent enough in diagnosis. The result in my case was that I paid them $50 diagnostic fee without actually receiving a diagnostic and with them asking me to buy RAM so they could test out my computer with new RAM (because they didn't have sufficient parts on hand). I would go to this shop to buy a PC or for basic support. I would not go to this shop for support on truly complex PC problems. I brought in a home-built PC with stability issues. I didn't have the time or interchangable parts to diagnose the PC myself, but needed it diagnosed and fixed as I used it for statistical analysis work. I ran the guy who checked me in through the steps I had taken (chkdisk and related), but he did not take adequate notes at check in. As a result, they held on to my computer for two weeks running the same checks. As I found this out, I informed the other guy who ran diagnosis on the computer I had completed all these checks. At this point, he insisted I needed to buy RAM so the computer shop could evaluate the issue with new RAM. This is a very strange request. Any shop worth it's own salt should have the interchangable parts and testing bench necessary to diagnose things without requiring the customer buy parts for the shop to do so. As he had been telling me inaccuracies about my hardware such as (1) MB can't handle the RAM I have in it because it is wrong speed (MB can handle it, it just has to be set to OC in bios) and (2) that my RAM was only 16 gb (wrong, it is clearly 4 sticks of 8 gb per stick), I decided to take the computer to a big box tech store nearby (who also failed to diagnose correctly). Upon pickup, the guys at the shop told me they believed I had a failed graphics card and RAM issue. I ended up doing the diagnosis myself a month later when my time freed up and figured out that I had (1) a corrupt windows install, and (2) a corrupted bios that was causing very strange MB behavior. I replaced no parts, just did a clean bios flash and a clean install of Windows. I am writing this review on the exact same PC, same parts, completely stable. However, I am sore that I paid $50 bucks and lost my home desktop for several weeks for nothing, and that I then solved the issue in about 2 days of my own work.

I destroyed my laptop with a simple glass of water the evening before we moved, and so sealed it in…read moreplastic with a dozen small silica packets for 36 hours before trying to use it. It was very dead except for a resilient fan motor whirring hopelessly. So I bought it into EliteX with my new external hard drive and asked if they could please save my files. It took them about 2 days to do it, but they were able to salvage everything! To top it off, they also bought my 6 year old dead MacBook to use for parts and gave me a further discount from their already fair prices. EliteX are honest, well priced, and knowledgeable! I can't think of any reason to pay twice as much for "genius" service at the Apple Store. Plus Apple support told me my MacBook was antique so would cost extra to repair, if they could even do it - compared to EliteX who paid me for it!! Don't waste your money, support a local business instead!

Including the parts the total repair would cost me around 250 bucks which I don't want to spend at all. He offered me a good deal of $100 if I sell my laptop to him and he would take care of the repairs stuff. I would never get such an offer for a laptop I thought of throwing in a garbage. Am blessed, I got $100 for it. Thanks Toni. Am completely satisfied with the overall service. This place not only service laptops but also iPads iPhones every electronic stuff, next I am going to bring my broken iPhone for him to repair it. :-P

The employee who helped me was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I have visited this store…read moremultiple times, and every time I interacted with him, he was disrespectful to both me and my mother. He charged me $300 to replace my phone screen, claiming it was an original part, but it didn't work properly and I ended up having to buy a new phone anyway. What upsets me the most is not the money, but the way customers are treated. His attitude was rude, dismissive, and completely unacceptable for someone working in customer service. I never felt respected or valued as a customer. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this place. Good customer service is essential, and unfortunately, my experience here was very disappointing.
