The item fit worse after tailoring because she didn't bother with the more challenging parts of the alteration. She just took in the sides without doing any work to refit the chest and straps. This made the top baggy...it looked worse that it did pre-alteration because the proportions were off. Unfriendly environment. She makes it clear that feedback is unappreciated and unwelcome.

I finally decided to go inside because I heard they'd be carrying a line that I like, and I come to find out that they carry several! I bought two simply GORGEOUS scarves that were actually priced lower than what I initially expected. A lot of the reviews of this place just do not do it justice! Let's clear it up. Is this boutique "too expensive"? NO! It's only too expensive if you're not familiar with the brands that it carries. These pieces are not overpriced or marked high beyond other retailers. Additionally, I saw at least one brand that's very hard to find in the US. The simple fact that I would be able to try on pieces from that brand without having to buy them up front and pay for shipping from Europe is a huge positive. Is the store "too cramped"? Hardly. It's a small store, but they have a very clean, beautiful layout. I was in there with two staff, a delivery guy, and probably four other shoppers, and I still had plenty room to be off in my own little world. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the store. Are the employees "rude and unfriendly"? Not at all!! My goodness. Quite the opposite. One woman behind the desk greeted me immediately and asked if I needed anything, another smiled at me, and I made conversation later (twice) and was met with receptive faces and eager replies both times. One of the women was less talkative, but she was busy and I wasn't talking with her directly. She did smile and look up and even laugh, though. She was far from rude. Basically, this is a lovely store, and you've probably got to be pretty rude yourself to think that the employees are rude. Additionally, if you're out of touch with the brands or the prices of pieces like what's carried at Mint Julep, you might think it's overpriced, but it's really not.

Even their accessories are way overpriced for what they are. Also, there's a cute bead shop down the way that I frequent - some of the jewelry here (all handmade, I suppose) was made with components they sell at the bead shop a few doors away. Yeah, and marked up like 80 bazillion percent. Tacky. Also, the clothes are adorable. But I have tits. Their stuff is cut to fit 12 year olds or rich Brookline women with bodies like 12 year olds. And yes, most of the girls who I see shopping there are the college-aged, not quite done with puberty, daddy pays for everything crowd. So I made my appointment for a week out and was so excited, I had a list of dresses that were all in stock for me to pick from, that I confirmed on the phone with GLL. When I started my appointment I was immediately told that I needed to pick from the "ready to wear" selection because my wedding date was too soon (July 2026). I told my stylist that I was deliberately told I could choose from the entire inventory if I made my appointment within two weeks but she was persistent that I had to pick from the "ready to wear" selection, which only had about 3 of the dresses on my list. I had driven almost 2 hours from RI for this appointment and wouldn't have if I knew that I wouldn't be able to try a bunch of dresses that I loved! I came to my appointment with 6 family members/friends and only two of them were given champagne. They asked for more and were told no. We thought this was odd but didn't think much of it. Throughout trying on dresses, I felt super rushed and like I was not being heard at all on what I liked about each one that I tried. For example I loved one dress but it wasn't fitting right, I needed a size smaller, but my stylist wouldn't let me try the smaller size; instead she kept telling me "it will look much better when fitted correctly...." At the end of my appointment, I had only one dress that I was (kinda) interested in, until my stylist told me we were out of time and that I couldn't try on a vail with my final pick. I was honestly floored at this point and felt like I accidentally offended my stylist or something for her to basically kick me and my 6-person entourage out. I left GLL feeling super sad, rushed, and confused.

It was easy to make an appointment online, I took the T in but there was some street parking right outside the shop entrance on a little side street. The stylist I had my appointment with (Lay) was super sweet. She offered me a refreshment, asked about my wedding, took my measurements, then brought out the dresses I had put in my appointment request. I honestly fell in love with the first dress and, seeing what I liked about the dress, Lay picked out a gown that wasn't in my original list to try on that I also ended up loving, more than the other ones I had picked out. She also helped me to envision what the dress would look like with some alterations. She is definitely very good at her job. The one thing I would have liked was a bit more alone time to check myself out and take videos and walk around, it felt a little awkward to have someone hovering most of the time. Overall though it was a really great experience and I would highly recommend Grace Loves Lace to any bride to be, especially if it's your first time wedding dress shopping.
