I have to give credit to the owner who we met on today's visit. He was working by himself, and he was meeting online and in person orders. Even though he was overwhelmed with both of these things, he still took time to take our order and answer all the questions that we had. We watched does he made our food meticulously and made sure everything was cooked to perfect. I stopped in here on my way to the airport after having nothing but bread at a work event for two days. I was pleasantly surprised that everything was actually raw! Even the avocado toast was on a "bread" different than I had ever had. Really tasty food that's good for you too! The menu here is raw vegan, which may sound boring or scary to some people, if they're not used to eating that way. But let me tell you, this place is great! Most of the dishes are organic, raw, and vegan, and they use "clean" ingredients, so it's really good for you. We loved every thing we tried (juices, smoothies and entrees). We went a little overboard and even got seconds on a few things. This was some of the best raw, vegan food we've ever had. It could've been at an up scale restaurant. Michael and Natalia have created something really special: healthy raw organic vegan food that tastes great! They know that everybody has their own dietary restrictions and preferences, and they're flexible to make changes to meet people's needs. We even met a few other customers including their first customer who has been going there for 10+ years. It seems they have a regular community that goes regularly. Super nice people! This is a great little spot to enjoy some creatively crafted entrées. Everything is tasty and fresh and it's just one big bliss out meal. Clean, organic. What a blessing to this area. It's really not so far, coming from Redford township to Birmingham is more driving than usual but it's not a big deal and so worth it! I am so grateful places like this exist here. While I am not a huge carnivore I am most certainly not a vegan, which is why it has taken me so long to give Try it Raw (TIR) a chance. I've worked in the Downtown Birmingham area for more years than I care to remember, and for the last several years I've often heard good things about TIR, and one recent morning I gave it a go. I arrived just after opening, and the owner was congenial and nice to talk to while I awaited my first Choco - Banana. This smoothie is PACKED with banana (I feel like he said there are 3 bananas in it, but that can't be right, can it?), almonds, raw cacao powder and some sort of sweet powder, which also gives it a bit of a bite. I got the 16 oz. size, and after my run that morning this was a fantastic and healthy drink, which filled me up for hours. Because the smoothie was so f'ing dope I decided to try TIR for lunch a week later. I ordered the Los Tacos, and they were killer. I'll admit I thought they would be served warm, but it was only a minor let down that they are not. The "taco shell" is made up of collard green leafs, containing a mess of healthy and filling items. There were kale chip crumbles, red peppers, green onions, avodcado, sprouts and tomato (along with some other things I couldn't quite place). The "refried beans" were actually made from pumpkin seeds and/or a walnut pate, but it legit tasted like beans. The "sour cream" was made from cashews, and the enjoyment...that was made from TIR. No, I'm not the biggest carnivore you've ever met, but after coming here I may turn into the biggest vegan! read more

It was very tiny with a few plastic chairs and tables. It looked like someone's garage and built in a wooden counter with a few outdoor plastic chairs and tables. It was cold and they had a small space heater. The food was creative and tasty but pricey for raw vegetables. Everything was plant base. Finally got around to trying this place. So happy I did! I will admit I was just skeptical in general of trying raw foods thinking they'd be plain and boring. Wrong. These guys do it awesome here. Perfect portion, and so fresh and refreshing. I think it triggered thoughts to truly start diving right into the raw world! I got the Tacos, which were recommended to me and they were very good. What a terrible lunch experience. I have literally never been moved to write a yelp review before today but this was just ridiculous. First: the atmosphere. The restaurant was small and cramped and smelled like a gas station restroom--not at all what I was expecting. I thought there would be smooth wooden counters and spider plants in the windows. Little succulents on all the tables, perhaps. No. It was all white linoleum tile and fluorescent lighting. Next: the staff. The teenager sporting white-girl-dreads who rang up my order was bored and apathetic. She never smiled once, and didn't even bother to thank me for my MORE than generous, considering the following, almost-25% tip. Her long pointy artificial nails were straight up gross and I feel sad that she is allowed to wear them around food. Then: my order. When I was standing around, waiting for my order, she called me over to inform me that they were out of the avocado rolls I ordered. One of the other kids told her he could still make them but they were out of rice. I told them that was fine. I'll forego the extra carbs, whatever. They did not offer to give me a discount. I was thus presented with my riceless avocado rolls, but the macaroon I ordered was missing. I told the kid. He went in the back and returned with my receipt. "She didn't ring you up for a macaroon. We're out of them anyway." Oohhhhhhkaaaay. He didn't even apologize. Where did the manager even find these dirtbag kids to run the place?! Last: the food. DISAPPOINTING. I don't know, maybe it was because my avocado rolls were missing the rice, but they tasted like bland salad wrapped up in a fancy sushi-looking costume. I bet the macaroon I didn't get to try would have been lovely. Also: $8.50 is WAY overpriced for five vegetable rolls. They're not even cooked, ffs. I feel like I am being awfully generous with my two stars. I am rating two instead of one because I have a ton of food allergies and the avocado rolls did NOT, in fact, trigger a migraine. There are a lot of people confused on the raw concept. Of course your soup and pizza come out room temperature- it's not cooked because well Then it wouldn't be raw. This place is amazing. Was reluctant to try a completely Vegan and Gluten-free spot, but I am glad I tried it out. I ordered a small take-out order of the 8 ounce double berry smoothie, the inside out veggie roll and the red tomato veggie sandwich special. The double berry smoothie was okay, the inside veggie roll was decent, but not sure I would get it again. I loved the red tomato veggie sandwich special, the tomato flat "bread" was really tasty and light and the olive tapenade with a bit of spice was really good, wish that would stay on their regular menu. I"m writing an update to my original review. I was waiting for Supernatural to open today and I decided to try this place again. The guys working were very nice. I ordered a smoothie and one of their raw cinnamon rolls. I had to wait a very long time to just get my smoothie. I probably waited about 25 minutes. I guess they are very busy. The guys were nice about it though, and were working hard to get everyones order done, but it really is too long to wait. The smoothie was good though, much better than the first one I had years ago here. The cinnamon roll was tasty but huge. I want to eat it all but shouldnt. I'm sure its fattening even though its good health fats. So I guess I will now recommend this place. I hope they can figure out a way to make people not have to wait too long. read more

Sometimes we get daunted by the idea of eating raw veggies because we thought of plain celery and carrot with some sort of dip, but you'll be surprised! This place has creative wraps, sandwiches, and even desserts made all from fresh and healthy vegetables. I had the handroll, which is cucumber, mango, carrot, walnut pate wrapped in collard greens. You'll be surprised at how pleasantly tasty and fresh it is. I also get the avocado roll, which is like vegan sushi with brown rice, cashew cream, avocado, and red cabbage. The texture balanced out nicely as you get the crunchiness from the fresh vegetables and the creaminess of the cashew, and the flavors come together well. I would like to try their raw cinnamon roll sometime in the future perhaps. They also have daily menu that I'm looking forward to trying when I get the opportunity.
