The Tryon Matthews office just canceled my appointment on me 30 minutes before I was due to arrive. I was on my way to the office and received text messages, I checked them when I arrived only to discover I no longer had an appointment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They offered no accommodation for a visit with someone else while I was there[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], Yet they are very adamant about charging a patient if you don't cancel 24 hours in advance. Deceptive Billing: I have been with this office for 7 years but leaving their practice because of deceptive billing . Went for a well checkup that is covered by insurance. Doctor asked about my osteoporosis and I mentioned that I will have my arthritic doctor look at my arthritis that has developed in my hands. I was bamboozled upon multiple occasions about not being able to receive my third prescription of meds UNTIL I come in for a physical/appointment, whenever THEY wanted me too! Tryon Medical Partners has provided the worst experience over the last year. First, I wasn't able to be seen when I had an ear infection. I had the flu, was on Tamiflu for four days, and knew I had an ear infection as a residual infection. I called the office and was told I had to wait to be seen--a mask and the other medication wouldn't be enough. I asked if a virtual visit could work, but was told I had to come in for a doctor to confirm I had an ear infection. I was in so much pain that I ended up going to urgent care (for a higher copay) and was told that it was a good thing I came to be seen because it was the worst ear infection the doctor has seen in an adult in years. Now I'm being charged for my annual physical because I answered questions that my doctor asked me during my visit. No new concerns were addressed during that appointment. I was told it was the office policy and up to the discretion of the medical staff to determine how the visit would be billed to my insurance. After all, the length of my visit will impact how many patients the doctor can see in a day (ps: my visit was about 30 minutes, bloodwork included). Is it too much to ask for quality care during routine visits without worrying that I'll get erroneous bills? Should I not be able to answer questions my provider asks to ensure my physician is able to get a full picture of my overall health? Do I really need to be completely mute during these visits to maximize my insurance benefits? When I called the office to discuss the bill, I was on hold for almost 30 minutes. Additionally, the receptionist was rude. She interrupted me multiple times and told my language was "inappropriate" because I used the word "asinine" in response to the office policy. I do like my doctor, but given the policies and experiences I've had at this office, it's not worth it to stay. read more

AWFUL!!!! How many bills are you people going to send to me?!?! I just received a sketchy AF email from these people asking for $43.60 from a YEAR AGO!!!! I already caught them red-handed trying to overcharge me AFTER they sent me to collections and I paid it in full! So why didn't they send me to collections for this?!? Just sketchy business. Watch your wallet with these people. Keep ALL of your receipts, every scrap of paper, because they will want proof that you've caught their deception. Tryon Medical is the new customer centric Mecklenburg Medical. While the initial concept seemed like an excellent one, 5 years or so later It's not. The New Tryon Medical was going to offer weekend appts, more time with your physician, less institutional and more personal in their approach- once the practice was apart from Atrium. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've found it challenging at times to set appts for my convience, often having a nurse come back to the exam room and present me with a slip of paper indicating the date and times of my follow up appts. No regard for my schedule or that the office was providing a service to a paying customer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Speaking of paying- be careful when you get a physical the doctors and management have created a logical mobius where a CHECK UP is centered around your doctor speaking non-stop when he enters the room spouting facts about previous lab tests and future plans. The moment you stop and ask the doctor a question about your condition or any ongoing chronic medical condition, then you have turned the physical into an OFFICE Visit and you will be billed for a physical and an office visit - complex 30-60 mins. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patient portal does not seem to offer an app based solution, and I've waited 4 days for a reply, even missing appts because I never got a message from the office, their VOip system are not set up so they show you the name of the practice when for incoming calls[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. They have excellent doctors, but it seems that the doctors wanted chang at Atrium Health, and were not happy, they left and created their own practice that they like, but didn't bother to count the patient into the equation. With the complexities of medical care growing, the billing becoming more ungainly and not without necessary ethical considerations Tryon Medical would do well to review their management and what exactly they have promised doctors for compensation based on time and production. When my doctor moved from Carolinas Healthcare System to Tryon Medical, I chose to follow her. That turned out to be a mistake (though if I chose to stay with Atrium, it would be have been equally bad...as you'll see from my review on Atrium Health as well)! Yes, Tryon Medical Partners is a brand new medical group, so I can understand some weaknesses. However, this place is a total joke! To make the long, heinous story short, they all-out lied to me, saying that they're still with my insurance provider...when it turned out they chose to leave my insurance group (as well as from what's now Atrium Health). Therefore, long after my doctor's visit, I discovered that my med bills (I say bills, because they sent me 3 separate bills!) were not covered by my insurance provider. I had to fight this tooth and nail...and thanks to my doctor's intervention, they agreed to "absolve" the bill since they misinformed me prior to the appointment. This, of course, happened after numerous emails and phone calls...and a ton of aggravations! Well, flash forward several months, I end up getting the bills that they were supposed to "absolve". ?!? Thinking that they would soon make good on their word, I ignored these bills...only to find out that they decide to forward the bills into pre-collections!! So yes, not only did they not honor their word, they chose to nearly destroy my credit standing by throwing my "absolved" bills into collections! All that time I wasted with their billing reps...for nothing! F-it, just decided to go ahead and the pay the whole thing and be done with it. At this point, I am so fed up with them and their disorganized, DISHONEST billing department, I just decided to forego another email/phone battle...and opted to give them this well deserved review instead. As a side note, this group also botched up my appointment itself...calling me just a few days before my pre-scheduled appointment, to feed me utter BS...pretending that my appointment location AND time were something else altogether! They truly tried to pull one on me...and I had to cause a scene over that one as well. What a nightmare Tryon Medical experience this had been!! If anyone is considering trying this ridiculous medical group, I warn you all to stay away. They are extremely disorganized, and again, dishonest. This has to be one of the most frustrating and awful experiences I've ever had with a DR's office. My Gyn Dr (Dr Salvimini-Hilton) unfortunately switched to this practice from another well known practice and she's been downhill since. I used to love how awesome she was in every way, but her ethics have definitely changed since here. She contradicts everything she used to say to me while practicing at the other practice. You now feel like a number or its a sales pitch for something. Also, takes days and days for anyone to call back or respond when messages are left. My review is for the customer service that I received from Missy at the Women's Center in Charlotte. I was returning her call. Because I didn't know the classification of my appointment, I was made to feel like an idiot. when I stated that I didn't know and if she could look it up another way, she did...but, also dug in more to make me feel like even more of an idiot by saying " I would think that you would know what kind of an appointment that you schedule...." Are these people on the phones not trained to do customer service?? she could have easily just said let me look up your appointment another way and it was totally unnecessary for her to make the condescending comment. I am currently on medication for breast cancer and I get brain fogs from it. The doctors and other medical staff are very good but their appointment system is completely broken. I am a long time patient and I have to call, message, leave messages constantly to see any of my doctors and it takes days for anyone to even get back to me. I recently moved to Charlotte and needed to find a physician to specifically refill my medications. Tryon Medical Practice affiliated with Athena is near me so I made an appointment with one of the doctors that was "accepting new patients" Dr Rafferty. I had my appointment and she took all my medical information performed a cursory check up and had my labs done. She sent orders in for a mammogram and podiatrist referral. She was also sending my refills to the pharmacy. She never did anything. No mammogram No podiatrist referral and No refills. Two weeks later Tryon sent me a letter informing me that Dr. Rafferty retired. Retiring doctor accepting new patients? Now I am out of medication and Tryon will not refill my meds unless I go through another appointment with a new doctor. They have my records, my labs and all my vitals from my appointment but refuse to refill my medications until I have (and pay for) another appointment. STAY AWAY FROM TRYON ATHENA! read more

If you know medicine, can take care of yourself except for ordering prescriptions and are in great health, this is the group for you. If you need to talk to a very rushed, non-interested, young doctor, this is the group for you. If though, you would like a group that spends a few minutes listening and will discuss your care with you, run away. The office staff changes constantly and pay no attention to what they're doing, so you have lots and lots of back and forth calls. THIS IS WORTH THE READ . .BEWARE, THEY MAY THREATEN YOU WITH POLICE INTERVENTION . . .FOR WHAT? Let me begin by saying I followed Dr. Remmouche from Mecklenburg Med Group to TMP bc we had a very good relationship and she was excellent helping me manage my diabetes ...every 6 months I would need bloodwork done before my visit so I would go to the Matthews location for the blood draw. The receptionist there was routinely surly, rude, brusque and down right mean to me and others. On a recent visit (6-10-22) I again encountered this same receptionist who couldn't find my lab order (same as before) and 'didn't know my doctor (what !!!); so, without arguing I asked for the practice manager. She aggressively and grudgingly went to the back office. Kaylie Hall, PM comes out and I asked to speak to her privately. It is now @2:30pm and I have not had food bc of fasting for nearly 16 hours; and I have to deal with the uncooperative, surly receptionist - again. I tell the practice manager that I am really tired of dealing with her belligerent employee and I described this woman to the PM in a word that was fitting albeit enraging to the PM. So, with arms flying and a loud and aggressive tone, I am being told I had to leave the office immediately. I barely got a sentence out to her and she just went off the rails. It was like a teenage TikTok drama. So, I go back to the desk to see if the errant receptionist had found the order or called my doctor (she didn't) and now the PM is behind the desk yelling that I need to leave bc she is calling the police. What The What !!! I'm not a terrorist, and I haven't done more than tell you about your bad employee. What an insulting and degrading way to treat your patients. The waiting room is filled with patients hearing her yell and carry on in a histrionic rage, and they are probably wondering who has a gun and do we need to run for cover. The escalation caused by Kaylie Hall was perverse and lacking any sort of professionalism - and sanity. She now comes out to the front of the counter and as I am walking out, she is screaming at me with her finger waving in my face - I had to step back because I didn't know what she would do. She was so unhinged. I left and attempted to report this to the higher-up manager. I received a response saying I was being dismissed as a patient. WOW! I had no value to them; my doctor had no value to them - so who did? The sub-par receptionist and Kaylie Hall whose management style seemed to be of a culture style I rarely see, and never in a doctor's office. She just took their Mission Statement and flung it out the window with her flailing arms and pointing fingers and yelling at the patient. The end result is that I am a patient needing a doctor for my diabetes and meds to go along with it. That was of little concern to them The surveillance cameras certainly tell the story as to who was out of control. . .and it wasn't the patient. read more

Tryon Medical Partners Cardiology is the worse. Dr. Framm in particular. He cancels appointments if you are not 15 min early and deems it a no show. My 89 year old mother was seeing him who is hearing impaired. He acted like he was irritated because she could not hear him and was very arrogant and rude. If he does not want to treat older patients he needs to put that in his policy. When I complained to the practice manager Jim, he gave an apology that was not sincere and defended the doctor. Will not go back to Tryon Med. Go to Sanger Heart and Vascular. They know how to treat their patients. read more

This practice includes a very large number of physicians that left MMG. My doctor is one of them. She seems very happy here and is getting into a new rhythm. On my initial visit, I waited almost an hour for blood work. On my next visit, I didn't need any bloodwork but I noticed there was no backup. The offices are clean and bright but folks are still working through the kinks. Service from the nursing staff was cordial and my doctor, of course, is still wonderful. She and I have been together for many, many, many years. I am thankful that I can still visit her and that she is happy in her new space. read more

The doctor never got back to me to discuss the highs and lows that were found after my blood work. My husband also felt the doctor did not listen to him when discussing what was occurring to him. And good luck dealing with billing. They are reluctant to give you information as to why bills were sent and what they were for. I called billing twice and both times I felt I was bothering them and on the second call I was hung up on. I haven't had an OBGYN appointment in years, and It was long overdue. But I had no choice but to go to get a checkup. I had set my expectations for the service level of this visit at 1 or 2 stars. But to my surprise, they blew me away. From entering the door to walking out, I knew this was the place for me. During my visit, I had a panic attack because some men were blowing leaves near the window. I knew they couldn't see me. And without question, they alerted the office manager, who went out immediately and had the workers move away from the window. They did not ask me why they were more concerned about me and wanted to make me feel comfortable. As I looked back, it was funny, but the reality was that my fear was genuine. I had a break-in my window and was attacked when I was young, and I never really got over it. So, I don't like anyone near my windows, and I always live on the 2nd floor or sleep upstairs. Here is why I rate the Tryon Partners Womens Center on Billingsley Road, Charlotte NC 5 STAR Service 1. The front desk greeter that took my information was very pleasant. When I caught eye contact with the second greeter, she spoke and said hello. 2. I arrived at my appointment 15 min early, and the nurse called me back at my appointed time (I had little to no wait time). 3. When the nurse realized I was having a panic attack, she immediately stopped to address my mental status. 4. The office manager immediately addressed my concerns and checked back with me to see if I was ok. 5. When I saw my doctor, she comforted me and eased my fear. 6. I moved to Tryon Medical when my primary care doctor moved from Atrium. I absolutely love my doctor and have no complaints as far as that is concerned. My issue is getting a call back from his nurse. I have called 3 times in 2 days to try and schedule a nurses visit. The last time I called, the person I spoke with could see the number of times I called and didn't seem shocked that I hadn't received a call back yet but said she would let them know again to return the call. If this had been the first time, no big deal but seems like I have this problem just about every time I call. The last call was around 2:40 pm today and I still haven't receive a call back. Guess I'll have to try again in the morning. read more

TMP waverly is the best doctors office I have been a patient since moving to the state. It is very hard to find a doctor that is not part of a big business and will take their time with their patients. I have seen two doctors including their PA ;and I can say I am truly happy with their knowledge and bedside manner. Breaking away form Atrium was the best decision these doctors could have made. The lab staff is kind and take their time with you so you do not feel uneasy or rushed. The nurses are lovely and help answer any questions you may have. You are always greeted with a smile no matter the person and their title. read more

My experience at both Waverly and Matthews location has been nothing but beyond expectations. Disappointed while trying to book an appointment with a dermatologist. They require a referral from a primary physician even though my insurance doesn't re quire it. I am new to the area and haven't established a primary yet but have had multiple skin cancers in the past. I don't see the need to waste money on a visit to get a referral not required by insurance. I read earlier reviews and was not surprised that some were pretty harsh. My daughter-in-law had some terrible customer service issues with an appointment-desk representative (while she was so ill and trying to schedule an appointment) right after her/my primary care physician joined Tryon Medical. I actually had to get on the phone and intervene in her behalf so that she could be seen by the physician. The treatment she received by the appointment-desk rep was absolutely no reflection on our wonderful primary care physician. Our family is so thankful for and loyal to our long-time primary care physician and we could not even imagine that we would ever want/need any other physician, so we hung in there. A stretch of time passed before I needed to be seen by my physician, and I was apprehensive about setting up an appointment. When I called for an appointment, the rep was just wonderful. And, from that time forward, dealing with every single member of the staff at my physician's location and two other specialists' locations has been the most pleasurable and supportive experience, bar none. Obvious to me was that changes had been made to insure that patients received the most courteous and pleasurable experience from the time the appointment was scheduled until the office visit was concluded. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Since my Dr left Atrium and joined Tryon Medical Partners, their office in Matthews has done absolutely nothing to improve our healthcare. We call and have 20 people in front of us...REALLY??? How about more phone help! We leave messages for our DR and so many times the nurse never calls back....like this morn. Called about 830am. Receptionist had us leave a message on nurse voicemail. Its 730pm and NOBODY called us all day. Also, we NEVER get to see our Dr. We are constantly sent to another office farther away to see a PA. First of all, how can a person with a MASTERS DEGREE ( Bachelors 4 YRS, Masters 2 years) DIAGNOSE illnesses that a PHYSICIAN went 8+ years to learn how to do? I think NPs should be used instead. PAs in our experience will not LISTEN to similar past diagnoses and what Dr did then. These PAs are so full of pride. Had the PA earlier this week done a chest xray on my pneumonia- prone husband, we could have saved an UC visit where they actually did one, AS HE WAS SO MUCH WORSE with fever, wheezing.....WE JUST NEEDED TO KNOW. Our mind was put at ease today KNOWING THE TRUTH. They took such good care of him, performing a breathing treatment, a steroid injection, and chest xray....an UC TOOK BETTER CARE OF US THAN THE PA, WHO WE TRIED TO TELL. BUT SHE WOULDNT LISTEN.....not to mention his very own DR never called back. She did tell us if my husband got worse to call his Dr. Tried! Jessica's diagnosis was correct, but as severe as his breathing and fever had reached, WE HAD TO WONDER WHAT HIS LUNGS LOOKED LIKE. We wondered, " Does he have pneumonia?" It should have been ruled out first visit with the information my husband gave her. NOW WE KNOW! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE FIRST, with his pneumonia history. We loved our Dr and fought hard to transfer with him to TMP. We are forced to part ways due to the lack of care and concern at his office in Matthew's and the experience at Waverly office. read more

Just have to write to tell you of my experiences with TMP. My Dr., Dr. Aquino switched to TMP, Waverly. I've been with him for years, as my husband who is deceased. I have the highest respect for him. He makes you feel like you're his only patient. Also, you don't feel rushed with him, as he answers all your questions in a manner that you can understand. Dr. Aquino has a warm calming effect to assure you that he is and will do everything possible to help you. I could go on and on, but if you're looking for a caring doctor, Dr. Aquino is the one. read more

One star is almost too generous given my horrible experience with Dr. Elaine Campbell on December 17, 2020. I will save the details for my insurance company and others in which I plan to share my concerns but since Dr. Campbell has yet to offer an apology nor has the practice offered to refund my co-pay, I feel the need to dump so that I can move on. There are far too many stories circulating that address the disproportionate number of black people who lack adequate health care coverage and services. Unfortunately, I have adequate coverage but lack a doctor who is willing to provide the level of care and services that I have sought for years. I am not economically disadvantaged but I lack a doctor who is respectful, empathetic, and patient. Rather than Dr. Campbell exercising a bedside manor that fosters strong relationships and trust, she chooses to use sarcasm, insults, and negative implications. I have never felt devalued by a medical professional and unfortunately last week was not the first time that I have encountered Dr. Campbell's snarky comments. However, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. She implied that the uploaded blood test results in the portal and her five sentence summary was an ample explanation as opposed to a medical professional providing an explanation. When I indicated that an A1C of 5.9 did not resonate with me because of my lack of understanding of diabetes, she implied that I have some sort of delay. The reference that she made to the summary of the visit that she provided two days after the initial visit was full of discrepancies and recommendations that were not discussed during my visit. When I shared that I had a severe allergic reaction on December 11, she dismissed me. I never got to tell her that I was being referred to a rheumatologist for further testing because I left after the third time that I asked her to stop interrupting me while I was explaining/responding to her aggressive probing. I am still unclear as to what prompted Dr. Campbell's lack of professionalism and why she felt that I deserved to be disrespected. She made me fight for clarity and answers that I never received. Her behavior towards me was racist and discriminatory and only adds to the countless stories about black people and inequities and disparities in their health care and services. Hopefully, Dr. Campbell will reflect on her negative behavior towards patients as I am sure I am not the only patient that has experienced her wrath. read more
