We came here for the summer special "Feinschmecker" menu series - those were really good value given the food quality. That being said, it was good, but I felt the quality didn't quite live up to their regular prices. Ok, location does play a role here. After a rough start (our open table reservation never made it to the restaurant), we were seated at a nice table in a room that, despite being nearly filled to capacity, had a tolerable noise level. We ordered the veal shank for two which I HIGHLY recommend. It was served with crispy potatoes, mushrooms that looked like chanterelle (but weren't), an amazing pumpkin dish and some delicious sauce to round out the meal. For desert we had the soufflé which was light and no to be missed. Personally, I did not have a great experience here. With my allergies, the menu was limited and what I got was subpar. I'm giving it 3 stars because it was a great atmosphere, good service, and my coworkers had good dishes. I ordered the cucumber salad as an appetizer and the sour cream was so over powering, I felt my cucumbers were swimming in it instead of having it as more of a "seasoning". I also ordered the ravioli without truffle but both got my dish with truffle and they didn't remake it. If anyone has had truffle before, it's VERY overpowering so if you don't like it, you really just cannot eat it. I barely had one ravioli before I decided to stop forcing myself to eat it. I ended up going to a restaurant in my hotel to get a bite to eat as I was starving. read more

FIRST IMPRESSION My SO and I went here as part of a two-week vacation through my home-country. This is a beautiful fine-dining establishment that served us one of the best meals ever. The establishment has beautiful decor and even though we came on a Thursday night, it was very busy. It's upscale and intimate. The bathrooms also had awesome decor--it feels like you're on top of the Alps on a sunny spring day! FOOD Spicy ox tartar - The meat was very tender and all of the accompaniments (capers, vegetables, etc) complimented it. If you enjoy tartar in general, definitely go for this. One of the best I've had. We split the smaller portion since we are smaller eaters and it was perfect. Veal liver with pumpkin gnocchi - This dish was, obviously, very rich. Very delicious. Gnocchi was soft and was light enough to not make me too full for liver. If you don't know whether you like liver, best to stay away since it's very liver-y. But I LOVED it. Wienerschnitzel - This was some of the best schnitzel that we've had. It was the quintessential Austrian dish that was done very well. No complaints. Salzburger Knockerln (Austrian soufflee with raspberries and vanilla sauce) - I don't care how full you are, please try this soufflee! It was so phenomenal! It looks huge, but it is so light and delicious. We had this with a cup of Julius Meinl coffee. Perfection. SERVICE Everyone from the host, to bartenders, waiters, and busboys were very attentive. Everyone was very professional and was able to speak with me in both German and English! Every detail from wine pouring to table-side service of the soufflee was seamless. IN CONCLUSION A must-go if one's in Hamburg. I will definitely be back to this establishment the next time I'm in Hamburg. read more

Yelpers did not lead these Wienerschnitzel-loving souls astray! I dedicate my 2600th review to a gorgeous Austrian restaurant in Hamburg, courtesy of yelper extraordinaires providing the intel. On a recent Friday night, my husband flew to meet me in Hamburg. We were staying at nearby Henri Hotel and I wasn't sure what our bandwidth for dinner might be so I failed to make plans. With a quick perusal of the Yelp app it was clear Tschebull was a fantastic choice and also happened to be located very conveniently (mere minutes) from our hotel. Done and done, we freshened up and headed over with Austrian meats and sides on the brain. Bring me cabbage! bring me potatoes! Bring me everything! First -- definitely make a reservation for peak times. We were lucky to snag a 2-top near the bar and it was absolutely lovely, but it was very busy and continued to get more and more so. For English speaking diners: there is an English menu and you will likely need it. Don't be shy. Also the servers were very nice, and though we attempted elementary German, we all got to the gist in English and everything was great. Now -- to the good stuff! That Wienerschnitzel! It was a vision. Large portion of crispy veal with tasty potato salad. Incredible and very lovingly presented. I personally opted for the Crispy 1/2 Duck which was about a quarter of a duck more than I could personally handle. Delicious. It was served with a heaping portion of cabbage that I also couldn't come close to finishing. A little white wine for good measure and we had ourselves an extremely satisfying meal from start to finish. High marks for Tschebull. A little bit fancy, a bit tucked away but somehow also on the busy shopping street (its in the complex next to the Park Hyatt) -- entrance within the shopping centre! My friends and I went to Tschebull for my pre-birthday dinner. This is definitely one of the best meals I've had in a VERY, VERY long time. There was quite a crowd for as late as we arrived. Beautiful decor, delicious duck... and the great stops there. My boyfriend and I were there for an anniversary, and we chose Tschebull because it fell within the top three spots in Hamburg for amazing Wienerschnitzel vom Kalb. We had a reservation, and had our choice of tables after the first was too close to a very loud group. We ordered cocktails, and I have to say they were not that great, pricy, and did not even fill a martini glass... I have never had a cocktail look so puny before! We went on and ordered two entries because we wanted to have room for dessert. My boyfriend ordered the Schnitzel, of course, and I ordered the Kross Gebratene 1/2 Bauernente (1/2 Duck). Its a good thing I did, because the schnitzel was disappointing. It lacked flavor, through we could tell that the meat was of high quality. The sides were potato salad and a berry compote. The potato salad was fabulous, yet the compote took away from the schnitzel and had a funky aftertaste. The duck was superb. I could smell the honey as the waitress set it down in front of me. It came with pickled red cabbage and knödel. Both sides were good, but not outstanding. Now, here is the one thing that truly bothered me, the service was very inattentive. How inattentive? Well, our table became so full when they brought the dishes, and they did not clear the empty cocktail glasses - the result, my boyfriend knocked his glass off the table. The waitress was totally unconscious to this fact until we told her when she came to take our orders for dessert. Finally we ordered dessert. We of course had the kaiserschmarrn, ad was disappointed at the lack of balance and dryness to the dish. Balance was lost because there was not enough ice cream to soak each piece of dough in, and then of course it was too dry. I unfortunately will not be returning to Tschebull. It is too expensive for the eh experience it offers. I would suggest getting your schnitzel fix somewhere else, or if you are bound to spend a lot of money on a dinner look elsewhere in Hamburg, you will surely find a place! read more

I did not enjoy my experience there. I ordered a Jägerschnitzel and requested to have the meat be beef, as I do not eat pork, which I also explained to our waiter. I was also served with beef but they put bacon pieces (pork) on my meat, which I had to scrape off. The sauce was overly salty. The salad dressing was bitter. The waiter was overly casual and pushy. The bill ended up stating 8€ for a bottle of water which I think is ridiculous. I am happy to pay more money for good quality food but this was just completely out of proportion. But then came the calves liver with onions, apples and mashed potatoes and I was in heaven, big portion, very flavorful. They also offer steak tatar. Comfortable chairs in a shopping area. An Austrian restaurant in Hamburg with some really great food. We went there for lunch and were surprised by the quality of the food and the prices. The carpacio was perfectly seasoned and balanced with the pine nuts and parmesan. For the main we had catfish that was very well prepared. For dessert the Apfelstrudel was a delight. I had champagne, spicy tartar with a side of Vienna style tater tots, pike perch crusted in nuts and herbs with a glass of wine and a giant soufflé (made for a king) for dessert. Where is the 10 star option here on Yelp? Tschebull should have the 10 stars! Totally positive experience with our visit as a family. We are bilingual, and so d the people who work there. If you get a menu and you have worries, just flip over and there is English for you. If you feel your German is not good enough (I always tell friends to at least attempt to speak German), with English, they have no trouble speaking with you. First let me apologize to the Host for arriving so early before our reservation. He handled it like a pro and never broke from the smile on his face. Super! We were walked to the bar to wait, and the bartender was ever so helpful with wine, spirit and water options. A short time later, an owning Partner showed us to a table (yes, you are reading that correctly). She spoke with us for a short time, handed us our menus and away we went reading all the options. (Side note: You may find it hard to choose just one entree, if so try the appetizer Osi-Tapas as it should quell the desire to order multiple meals.) The waitstaff was like little ninjas, always there to fill a glass or answer a question, without hovering. (Side Note: Was afraid to ask if they were ninjas, but have my suspicions. They were way too good at their job. And yes, they spoke English for those a bit tepid in that language area.) The entree I devoured (and have no shame about it) was WOW so good...ok I literally forgot the name...But is was basically a perfectly done steak with roasted potato and it was outer worldly good. Perfect pink on meat and potatoes were so flavorful...and the hollandaise sauce pulled it all together. Dessert was homemade ice cream and barely had the room to eat it. As an Eis addict, I was going to finish it no matter how much belt needed to be loosened. It was superb. If you get the chance to come to Hamburg (and one really should give this city a try as it is so warm and friendly) you should really check out Tschebull. read more

I have had better schnitzel in NYC. :( With so many positive reviews, I was hoping for some excitement in my mouth. First, it was so difficult to find the restaurant at night. You need to go inside the mall (EVERYTHING looks closed) and then find your way to the top floor. No one greets you. So you think, it's this place open?? Finally, after a few minutes, a hostess comes and brings you to the table. The food is pricey as it is supposed to be a nice and solid restaurant. This restaurant is in the shopping center next to the Park Hyatt hotel that I was staying at. Wanted to try something different so I opened my yelp app to see what was near by. I was seated by a friendly waitress. I ordered the veal schnitzel and I asked her to recommend a starter to which she replied the asparagus salad. The salad came to my table literally within 5 minutes. Hands down the best asparagus dish I have ever tried in my life! Just wonderful. The temperature, texture, the symphony of flavors between the yogurt dressing, tomato and this zingy chutney sauce. I was blown away and savored every drop until nothing was left in my bowl. The schnitzel followed shortly after I finished my salad. It was also a great dish. I really enjoyed squeezing lemon juice on it before I took each bite. I had the waitress bring me extra lemons because the lemon complemented the egg batter which covered the veal so well. The potato salad was also sour giving it a similar effect to the lemon when combined with the veal. The schnitzel also came with a salad and a sweet marmalade sauce which also complemented the schnitzel as I would alternate between the different condiments to give each bite a different flavor.
