The free breakfast buffet is really spectacular and the food is very fresh. The staff is attentive. Our room is quite small, and not much place to hang things, but this is likely a European standard. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom has a moving wall since the shower is right next to the toilet. However, it's comfortable with a nice shower head, plentiful hot water and is easy to use. Main complaint is that almost the entire bathroom gets wet when you take a shower. I would definitely stay here again!

None of the things above warrant this Best Western receiving a 4 star rating. It was actually all about the complimentary breakfast buffet served daily. Oh my god!! Your average free breakfast in the US consists of maybe bagels in a plastic bag, donuts and a guy scrambling eggs if you're lucky. Any US Best Western employees mind would be blown at what was served here. The breakfast included multiple choices of bread and rolls, at least 5 different smoked fish, caviar, 4 or 5 cheeses along with standards like ham, sausage and eggs cooked several ways plus much, much more. Kalles kaviar cheese is so good that I would consider brushing my teeth with it. Who needs lunch after this?? The lobby was also nice with high ceilings and comfortable sofas. They also had a couple of computers for complimentary internet access, a rarity in the US. It wasn't in the heart of Stockholm but was reasonably near everything. I'm pretty sure we'll stay here the next time we visit.

We stayed at this hotel during the last three nights of May, and overall we were very pleased…read more Some reviewers on Trip Advisor mentioned the distance from the city center and from the nearest subway station, but that was of no consequence to us; we walked everywhere in Stockholm (obviously the weather cooperated), and we took a taxi to the hotel upon arrival because it was very late and we couldn't have carried our luggage up-and-down lots of metro stairs (note that the cost of a taxi from the train station is quite high, and especially considering the abysmal exchange rate from dollars). Of course, that reality also meant the hotel was very costly. The lobby is *very* attractive - with a lovely color scheme - and quite comfortable. There's also some outdoor seating. The rooms were a decent size and the bathrooms had nice toiletries & soaps. Everything was very clean. WiFi was free. The reception desk staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Also, we really liked the hotel's neighborhood; it's residential and attractive. The absolute highlight was the (free) buffet breakfast. We thought the breakfast buffets in Norway were wonderful, but this hotel's was the *ultimate*! Seriously, it's worth staying at this hotel *just* for the breakfast buffet. Not only was the selection incredible and extensive, but everything tasted really delicious (the coffee was also very good). We didn't even have enough room to sample everything, much to our dismay - and needless to say, we didn't (*couldn't*) eat lunch on either day. The breakfast room was large & attractive and the workers were friendly. We had to leave for the airport at 3:15 a.m. (that's not a typo) on June 1, so we made arrangements for a "bag breakfast" (is there such a term?); the hotel provided bread & cheese and bottled water upon checkout (free of charge) and we also had them reserve a taxi for going to the airport (the driver arrived exactly at 3:15 and he was very nice). Now, for the negative aspect (and the reason why I'm not giving five stars). There's no a/c (nor a fan) in the rooms and it was *very* warm during our stay. Our only option was to therefore open the "balcony" door ("balcony" is a misnomer, as the door opens to a space that's literally just big enough for one person to barely stand there). Of course, that certainly provided more air than if it had just been a window. Meanwhile; our room faced the street side of the hotel and lots of cars went by all night, therefore we didn't sleep well with the door open (but closing the door wasn't an option, since it was absolutely too warm). We spoke to the manager the next morning, and he moved us to a room at the back of the hotel. It turns out there's a school in the back, and it has a very large asphalt playground with two basketball hoops. It also turns out that anyone is allowed to play basketball there until 10:00 p.m. Further; the (young) adults who play basketball have no interest whatsoever in obeying the signs concerning 10:00 p.m., and let's just say that the reverberation from *multiple* basketballs is right underneath the rooms. We called the reception desk on both nights (when 10:00 p.m. arrived without a dispersal) and were told "Security" would be sent out there, but later we discovered "Security" doesn't consist of a hotel employee; it's a company that also has other clients in the area and they never arrived on either night. It was particularly bad on our last night, as we had to get up at 2:15 a.m. and the basketball "players" were very recalcitrant & rude. The woman at the reception desk first sent out a (young female) hotel employee, but the posse totally ignored her - so when I called again, the woman from reception (eventually) went out there herself and even that didn't help. By the time the four f--kers departed, it was late and we were livid. If you have earplugs or if the weather doesn't necessitate keeping the door open, I highly recommend this hotel.

Birger Jarl was our base of operations for my wife and I to explore Stockholm over three days. the location was convenient, about a 20 minute walk to the center of town and the water. It's in a quiet part of town which means the windows can be opened over night to cool down without much noise. The wifi was very fast and worked well. Service was exceptionally friendly and welcoming and even offered some suggestions for our stay at check in. The included breakfast was quite extensive with a variety of meat, cheese, spreads, and jams for sandwiches, cereals, and hot foods to really load up. We didn't need lunch most days as a result. Everything was quite modern and very clean. It was a great place to use to explore a beautiful city.

Otherwise it is easy to access via the subway (green subway line, two stops, station Radmansgatan, from the central station) and then a few minutes walk. The hotel is outside the main tourist and business area but it is still close to most things. The area also has a number of interesting restaurants. The hotel does not look like anything special from the outside. The lobby is also uninspiring. The staff at the reception have on the other hand always been service minded and polite. Last time I stayed here I had booked a cheap Internet rate (around 800 SEK) and should have been put in one of the small standard rooms. I asked if they had the 'forgotten' room (or the 70s room as it is also known) available and luckily it was available and I got it without any extra charge. I really love this room but it is a bit special so it is not for everyone. The room in question (number 247) is at the end of a corridor (almost around a corner) and when the hotel was refurbished it was simply forgotten. They decided to keep it and just have it slightly 'freshened up'. The room is rather large (to be in Europe) and actually consists of two rooms. One is like a lounge with sofa, TV, 70s inspired entertainment center and also mini-bar. There is also a desk/work space.The bedroom also has a desk, TV, iron and safe, The bathroom is fairly recently renovated but they have kept the same style with green walls so it follows the same design. There is free wifi in the room as well as the lobby. The hotel breakfast was above average, not great but still great compared to what is normally offered at hotels in Sweden (compared to the chains like Scandic and Elite the breakfast here is world class but in an international perspective it is ok compared to what I would expect at at a 4-star hotel).

I also ordered the Risotto with haloumi for dinner and that was a tad on the salty side. The avocado was very nice with a marinated egg on top. The hotel is well situated to access a lot of downtown Stolkholm, buses and Ubers are plentiful. The hotel was very reasonably priced along with the food offered at the restaurants. The beautiful breakfast buffet is included in the price of the room. My only negative comment was the bath tub was quite narrow, and very slippery. Difficult to maneuver for someone tall like I am. I mentioned this to the front desk and they reported many people have commented about this concern. Yes, so what are you doing about it? Maybe some bathtub mats are in order as one of the people in our group fell getting out. In America they would have been sued already, let's hope they remedy it soon to make this the perfect place to stay while vacationing in Stolkholm. Not only is the hotel situated in a perfect spot - close to lots of foodie drinkie places - but also to the water and to old town, just short walks away! The breakfast is super great but another reviewers have noted, getting there early is definitely best. The place can be absurdly busy later in the mornings! But the selection of brekkie options is great and there an omelette station too. Our meetings were just around the corner from the hotel so our group booked lunch here every day. Really nice and the staff was always so helpful. The food was excellent too. Staying here I typically would walk out for dinner in town and come back for a nightcap. The bar team was always great and it turns out the bar manager is a whiskey connoisseur and he has crafted a special Clarion Hotel whiskey from Mackmyra but you can't buy it. You can only get it at the hotels. It's a really nice whiskey I have to say! Very smooth but full of flavor. It turns out as he and I were talking about my home in bourbon country, he shared how he got the beautiful flavor. The whiskey spent its time in three different barrels and I love them all!: a traditional bourbon barrel, a Spanish rossa barrel, and a sherry cask. Now I know what you're thinking, but trust me when I say it's amazing. Finely crafted and likely to go with just about any Swedish dish you could imagine pairing it with. Truly great! Also, it is literally right next door to the Rådhuset T-Bane stop. The lobby is gorgeous, and attracts cool people to its hotel bar. The service at the front desk was helpful and friendly, and they made me feel right at home. The double rooms are small by American standards, but about average for European hotels. Everything looked clean with elegant lines, and was pretty much everything I needed. I checked out the workout room and the pool - the gym was ok with decent machines, but the pool was a bit small. You definitely wouldn't feel comfortable sharing it with another family, but would be lovely if you had it all to yourself. The breakfast buffet was large with a lot of variety, and the front desk helpfully warned us to stay away from 9-10, as this is the time that most of the boat tourists come to breakfast. Outside those hours, there is plenty of room and food.

The hotel also had a great restaurant and bar downstairs which was great since we didn't want to have to bundle up to leave the hotel. We had burgers two days in a row for lunch, they were really good. The place itself is beautiful and service was great. We went down two nights for appetizers and drinks at the bar which was great as well. No complaints for the Radisson Blue from us.

Reception is very friendly and helpful, from lending umbrellas to booking excursions to providing a warm welcome. Our room overlooked the main street so it meant that we had to have the window closed at night but the air con worked well and was quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were of high quality. Also the pillows were excellent. The decor was clean and crisp, with the school motif being very present but also not overdone. I wish there had been room for a chair, instead the room had cushions to sit on the windowsill which was not ideal. The bathroom was modern and functional, with a good shower and excellent products. Amazingly the mirror never misted, something truly appreciated. I wish, however, that they had provided somewhere to hang damp towels. The breakfast was very good indeed - a wide choice of foods with some excellent Swedish offerings (the beetroot infused smoked salmon was outstanding, along with the lingonberry spread), as well as the usual carbs for Americans. They provided gluten free muffins, gluten free muesli and gluten free bread.

Now to few negatives. No free breakfast as Platinum Marriott Bonvoy amenity, only small discount. The rate was slightly high, but both of those thins are rather minor. The main issue here is a room itself. I didn't care much for decor, bit it is subjective of course. I couldn't get Platinum upgrade and ended up in their standard double room. It was simply too small even for "one of me", and not too well designed to move around. Felt a bit claustrophobic. Please don't tell me that I should expect very small rooms all over large European metropolis, it is simply not true. I travel enough on business and pleasure to know, and stay in many European cities. It was unusually small, that is all. Still, would recommend Miss Clara. The whole bathroom, shower included, is one level, so water from the shower just spreads out during the shower, and then retreats following. It does not leave the bathroom, or get over by the sink too much, but it was not what I was used to. (It is not a situation where you are showing with the toilet, there are distinct spaces.) The location almost immediately adjacent to the train station makes getting from the airport to the hotel a breeze. Easy walk to either where you need to go, or public transportation. I recommend!

The bed is quite comfy and I liked the scrunchy pillows. We slept great with our window open to allow for fresh air...I think we were lucky that the late night revelers were not under our window while we slept. The breakfast buffet (included in room price) in the morning is one of the best I've seen in my many years of travel. It rivals the 5-star hotels where you have to pay extra for a buffet with the number of choices this breakfast offered. Everything from as fresh and tasty. You'd have to hate food to dislike this buffet. We had an early flight, day of our checkout so we only enjoyed the buffet once. However, the hotel staff made up to-go breakfast bags for us sent us off with nutritious sandwiches, fruits, and drink. Where do you get that service?!?! The lobby of the the hotel is roomy and very comfortable. There are many places to work, lounge, or read without feeling other guests are too close. It was nice to relax in this hotel. The price of our rooms were ~ $200 per night so I was very pleased with the hotel for all that it offered. It's close to shopping, transportation hubs, and a 20 minute walk to Old Town.
