Ranked the #19 restaurant (of 9,131) on TripAdvisor, and with it being so close to my AirBnB, I decided to give it a try.
Upon entering, you're met with floors of wood and stone, a modern staircase that rises to the right, and a wooden bar paneled in what looks like distressed and decorated copper.
I was greeted immediately and shown the easy-to-understand wall menu. The owner walked me through the process: 1) pick a pasta; 2) pick a sauce; 3) optionally, choose additional ingredients (meatballs, bacon, etc.); 4) pick a dessert; and 5) choose and drink. Your cost is pasta price + sauce price + add-ons.
I chose the pasta de la semana (pasta of the week) and the spicy putanesca sauce. I added meatballs and then chose flan for dessert.
The pasta is made fresh everyday at the mother store a mile from here then brought over each morning. The sauces and everything else are made on site. They promise "100% handmade," and it tasted like it!
The pasta was brought out promptly (I was the only customer at the time - again, it was only 12:30pm - a good hour and half or so before normal lunch time here), along with fresh bread. I was cautioned that it was very hot.
The ravioli pasta of the week was good and firm. The sauce delivered on spicy, but not overkill, and the meatballs were wonderful. The flan was rich and firm and fresh, and served with plenty of caramel sauce.
The staff was very attentive and within 30 minutes, the place started filling up. Two, then four then eleven more people filed in and placed their orders. Their pasta selections were brought out just as speedily as mine.
This is such a great little place tucked away north of city center. It's worth the walk! read more
