What a beautiful, well maintained state park. Lots of trees that keep you cool under shade while enjoying many trails. Not crowded on a Saturday. We drove around the camp area and the spaces are nice, cabins looked good too. I think we will camp here soon! read more

This was a very quiet getaway in our camper! I think the only con for us was lack of cellular/internet. We use our phones to pull recipes and reviews on things we buy to keep our camping group up to date, but it wasn't a a deal killer. Park is very clean, restrooms were ok, bring what you need because it's fairly far to a store. I forgot creamer for our coffee which ended as a trip to a restaurant in Denton. Probably wouldn't stay long periods here, but it was great for downtime! read more

I love Tuckahoe's campsite, especially the Dog Wood (dog friendly) cabin. Tuckahoe offers traditional camp sites as well as an electric loop for RVs, etc, which is where the Dog Wood cabin is located (this allows for the enjoyment of A/C in the summer and heat in the winter). A short walk away is the bath house facility, which is clean and well-maintained. Also closeby is the firewood shed and the camp store (both cash only) which sells snacks, sundries and t-shirts. The park itself also has hiking trails and Atkins Arboretum - a gorgeous nature preserve with its own trails to enjoy. We spotted a pileated woodpecker, a downey woodpecker, and blue jays during our exploration. read more

I just had a great two night, mid-week stay in the tent only (Heron) loop of the Tuckahoe campground, site #42. The spacing and woodsy shading in this part of the campground provides more privacy than most places. Only about four sites were occupied in the Heron loop, although there were more people in the RV loop (that has electrical service). It's a big plus for the tent sites that they also have drive- in access (some campgrounds have walk-in sites for tents). The bath house is in the center, and everything was fine there, with hot showers and shower curtains. There is a lake trail, but it is from the RV camp loop, so I mostly drove around, to the lake, playground & picnic area, the Arboretum, and the park office with the aviary. The boat rental concession is open on weekends only. The picnic area was beautiful--shaded by pine trees, with grills and a view of the lake. The park staff drove through the campground loops several times a day, checking on everything. Campers were quiet and respectful. It was a very peaceful place and a great location to relax & unwind. read more

Absolutely fantastic campsite. The sites are well maintained and accommodating. Each has a firepit with grill, a picnic bench, and post for hanging a lantern. The sites are spacious enough to comfortably fit a tent and car. The electric sites have reliable power. The bathrooms had two showers with plenty of hot water. read more

Small park with lots of amenities! See horses , fisherman , bicycles , hikers etc . Also has a very nice camping area and also a new kayak loading pier that makes getting in your kayak & out a dream ! Another nice pier has also been added for fishing ? Or possibly bird watching just beyond the kayak loading pier a short walk down a little trail. Also last stocked pond of year for fishing. read more

We had planned on visiting another state park, but it was crazy busy, so we went here instead. Lovely park with a lake and just gorgeous, tall skinny trees on the trail. We only found a 30-minute trail to hike, but that's bc we hadn't planned our visit. Looks like there's plenty of hiking available, which we found out online once we got home. We only saw four people on our hike, nice bc of the pandemic, so it felt safe. Bathrooms are open, another plus. They have a cool looking playground there for kids and plenty of room to stretch out. read more

I'm in the beginning stages of becoming "Camper Woman" and Tuckahoe was another stop on my journey. Tuckahoe didn't "wow" be but it also didn't "disappoint". Amenities include: -Campsite(s) with relative distance to one another: Perfect for much needed privacy -Clean Bathrooms -Kayak/Canoe Rentals -Nice Walking Trails -Small lake/Trails for Kayaking and Canoeing. I was throughly impressed by the wildlife we saw though through the marsh areas! (Orioles, Turtles, Snake, etc.) -Disc Golf Courses -Horseback Trails -Volleyball Courts -Picnic Areas get swamped on summer Saturdays & Sundays -Pets are allowed: Brought my dog and took her out on the tandem kayak with me! -Cost us $15 for two hour kayak rental Couple of tips that I wish I had known: -Check-in doesn't exist. Don't worry about checking-in, just follow the signs until you see the park (which is hidden by some trees) and once you're in.. look for the lit up bulletin boards for check-in and site information. -This Park is mostly all "honor" system. Please don't abuse these privileges. It is through the funds for wood, concessions & etc that these state parks remain open. -Check yourself, children and pets for ticks. My pup and I both came home with 1 each. read more

I loved it here! As I've mentioned in other reviews of camping destinations, I am not an outdoor girl...the things I do for love... Part of our wonderful experience is probably due to the fact that we went on a Sunday-Monday. So, although the campsites are pretty close together, it is probably only packed on weekends. We did not see literally ONE OTHER PERSON the entire time we were here. We stayed at a campsite, not a cabin, though those looked nice and new. One of the best things about this place (again, from an 'inside girl' and not having to do at all with the actual nature part) was the water pump right next to our campsite. Being able to walk a few feet to have a forceful, fresh water pump that is flowing clean, cold water is a game-changer. One of the reasons I don't like camping is that I don't like feeling grimey. Whenever I felt grimey, I just visited the pump, washed my hands and face and dunked my head under. I felt clean and invigorated and this made me able to enjoy the rest of the trip with my husband. We had fun hanging by the fire, cooking food, looking for critters (Saw lots of turtles on our hikes!) and just relaxing and feeling totally secluded. Lots of close-together trees are great for hammocks, too. We did a few of the hiking trails, but nothing too major. There are also challenge courses and more vigorous trails. You can fish, kayak, canoe, play disc golf, ride horses, and there are great playgrounds for kids. Walking to the reservoir was fun, too (see picture-- that's me -- look closely!) Trails are ok. It's not marked well. The trails need to be a bit more cleared. The mosquitos are pretty vicious, so bring bug spray. They have a great picnic area w restrooms. It's a beautiful lake you can rent canoes to explore with. They have a nice play area for young kids. You can alway do some fishing and certain areas are for hunting. read more

Great State Park. Even though there is only electric hookups for rvs, if you are prepared you can have a great camping experience. All of the electric loop campsites are shaded by trees and there is potable water available. Nice trails are easy to moderate through the forests. read more

Tuckahoe State Park was very clean, the staff were very accommodating, and it was not at all crowded--exactly what we were looking for. We had two camp sites in the non-electric loop, both of which backed up to a forrested area in which I was able to let my dog off leash. There are tons of activities, including frisbee golf, hiking, canoeing, archery, and more. We hiked south from our campsite to the lake, then continued down through the Adkins arboretum. It's not a challenging hike, but it was pretty and the dogs loved it. Bottom line--if you are looking for a less crowded camping option near DC (only about an hour away) this is your spot. read more

Tuckahoe State Park is very clean and welcoming. You can hike, camp, walk aimlessly, fish, picnic, take children to the playground, mountain bike through the trails...it's all perfect right? It's incredibly boring. There are no challenges. The scenery is pretty but it's also incredibly stagnant. I saw nothing interesting on the entire walk, with the exception of hundreds of yards of empty fields truncated by forest, endlessly repeating for miles. Don't come here looking for a challenging hike. These are all trails if you're the kind of person who enjoys walking and nothing more. There's a decent amount of water that isn't flowing, it's just sitting there. There are lots of bridges to go over tiny rivers. On hiking alone, I'd give this place a 1 or 2. But there are plenty of beautiful spots to just stop and take in air. Excellent for kids who would totally dig on the tire playground. read more

This was really fun. We went "glamping" with friends in one of the cabins that they have there. There were two separate rooms, one with 4 bunk beds and one with a full bed. There were 4 chairs that were included and the cabin has a ac/heating unit that got us nice and toasty. There is also electricity, which is a great addition. You are close to the lake for boating, and we heard there are great trails but didn't have enough time to take advantage. It was relatively easy to get to from the DC metro area and it was a great way to relax. I highly recommend going here if you are looking for a relaxing weekend. read more

This quiet park is only for stopovers to another place. The park service website shows archery, horseback riding, ropes course, disk golf, fishing, and canoeing on the lake. BUT...you need to bring all your own equipment for these activities. We didn't pack a horse, or bows and arrows, fishing gear, horse shoes, etc. The ropes course was only for youth groups, the "lake" was more the size of a pond, and there's no swimming in the pond and no pool. Nothing to do except disk golf but that day it was 92 degrees and muggy. No thanks. We had planned a nice two days only to turn around and come right back home. Bummer. Pretty bad experience. Drove an hour and a half and tried to rent a canoe. Upon arrivals we learn that it is cash only for some reason. I ask where the closest atm or if there is a town nearby. They say Easton is the closest town. I ask, really? The response: I don't know. Ok. Thanks. read more

A very nice, clean and quiet park! I camped here, in a tent, for three nights, and had a great time. If you like to kayak this is a nice spot. I would have put 5 stars, but here are a few things to consider, before deciding to come. Lake is relatively small with no place to swim. Bathroom, at electrical loop camping, is somewhat small with only two showers. I was ok with both things, but wanted to point that out for you to consider. read more

Kayaking at Tuckahoe park is such fun. Nice natural area to spend the day or camp out for the weekend! We haven't camped yet but kayak often. Very nice place. Trails are good. Facilities are close by ( restrooms & showers & water to drink) we saw eagles , deer, herons, muskrats, beavers and lots of turtles! We also went next door to Adkins Arboretum. They have no streams deep enough to paddle but omg their trails are awesome!! They are my favorite part. read more

nice park for the area... plenty of things to do. A pond/Lake to boat in, playgrounds. I went for the disk golf course. Mostly Par 3's lots of wood's and poison Ivy. Bring a extra disk because the bush's and trees are thick. I would recommend trying to get to Lums Pond state park if you can its about 1hr away from Tuckahoe but the Disk Golf course is much better. read more

2 friends, my husband, and I stayed here in May 2014. Camping here is nice and cheap since it's in the state park system. Seemingly, campgrounds that don't pack their sites together like sardines so that you can actually feel like you're getting away from... anything... without 100% roughing it and hiking into the middle of nowhere on foot do not exist. I have yet to find one in this state. They are all the same tiny little paved area with a tiny rusty iron "fire pit" that are within a minimum of 5 other campsites so nearby your own you can hear your neighbors' conversations spoken at a low mumble (because it is nice and quiet out there) and see everything they are doing. On the plus side, the bathrooms were very clean and water was easy to get from the pump near the bathrooms. Also on the plus side, despite the place being packed with campers, no one was rude or excessively loud (we were just so close together that it didn't matter and could hear them anyway... I'm certain they heard every word we said as well if they cared to listen). On the down side, bees are infesting the sign-in area with the map at the entrance as well as the wood storage shed (that houses the only wood you're allowed to use...) and no one seems to be alarmed by this... They are not tiny little honey bees either... I mean, I know it's nature and all, but you can't let bees nest in your facilities that are under regular human use. We left earlier than originally planned (didn't stay the second night we had reserved) because we were literally run out by a fiddleback spider (aka brown recluse) infestation... I am not exaggerating to use the word infestation. They were EVERYWHERE. A bunch of them must have hatched overnight, because we didn't notice any our first day there, and they were literally crawling everywhere by noon of the next day. We had to - very carefully - shake over a dozen (OVER A DOZEN! BROWN RECLUSES! YES I AM SURE THAT IS WHAT THEY WERE, THEY HAD THE FIDDLES ON THEM! I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH THAT I AM NOT EXAGGERATING!) out of our bags of belongings and groceries that we had set out to make brunch. This is not counting the ones that were crawling all over the little asphalt pad for the tents and all over the picnic table and out in the leaves immediately surrounding our site. These were the ones we could actually individually count as we shook them out of our stuff, which we went through both extremely carefully and extremely meticulously so as to avoid packing them to bring along home with us! It would've been an arachnophobe's nightmare! By combination of being very careful and some degree of miracle, none of us got bitten before we promptly beat feet out of there. This isn't the park's fault of course, just nature showing us its dangerous side, and we took the hint and left her alone. Really I'm just disappointed at the utter lack of ability to actually be able to go camping without feeling like a cow shoved into a small stall next to a bunch of others. I would rather pay more and have to reserve earlier and actually have a little bit of privacy and seclusion out in the woods than be crammed in like sardines... What's the point of that if you want to get out and experience being away from feeling crowded? The trees and lovely owl hoots at night were very nice though. Perhaps the world is just that overpopulated that it's basically impossible to get away anymore without hiking for 20 miles and risking getting lost or eaten by bears. read more
