As you cross the Choptank River on US 50 East, you can see the park in the distance on the right side. Stay on the far right lane when you cross the bridge. Once you reach the Cambridge side of the river, take a right onto Byrn St. (which lacks a big sign) or at the traffic light (Maryland Ave.), then another right turn which will lead you toward the parking lot. We stopped by here in late December 2020 on a cold, sunny day. Inside the park, you will find clean public restrooms, the Dorchester County Visitors Center, and a lovely view of the river. The public facilities are open 8:30am-5:30pm every day. Parking is easy and free. The park also has a kid's playground and room to stretch your legs. If you have any family members who enjoy fishing, you can also walk on a path along the river under the Route 50 bridge. On the other side is a huge fishing pier!

The park has a picnic shelter with picnic tables under it and a grill just outside of it. It has two picnic tables. One of the tables is rectangular and the other is a square table with a checkerboard on it. There is also a couple of picnic tables and a grill in a grassy area in the center of the park's circle. You will also find a nice full basketball court at the park and a nice paved trail passes through it. It is a really nice trail and very peaceful. The highlight of the park though, is its playground. The playground has a rubber mud free floor, which is in great shape. There are benches around the playground's perimeter where parents can sit and watch their little ones. The playground's equipment includes a small jungle gym with slides, a large net climbing structure with a slide. There is also a bank of swings with a toddler swing, An ADA compliant swing, and some traditional swings. This is a very nice park. I didn't know if I would make a special trip to visit, but it is still very nice. I ended up here because I had picked up some food from a carryout joint and needed a place to eat it. The park's picnic shelter was the perfect spot. So, if you are in the area, and looking for a park to visit. I recommend checking this place out.

There is lots of space to park, very clean, and beautiful to look at. My nieces loved the blue color. There's a jungle gym, slides, swings for big kids and toddlers. The size is on the smaller side so it might get boring after an hour. My rec is 30-60 minutes stay. Also it's in a neighborhood which is a bit inconvenient when driving through. Stop by if you're already in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip again.

The playground, piccadilly castle, is a large wooden playground that could use some updating. They have a smaller area reserved for only smaller children, which is nice when it's crowded with older kids and they have no regard for your toddler. The swings could use an update and the slides could use a deep clean, but everything was pretty solid. The castle has bricks around it with names of those who contributed toward or helped build it. It's neat to see some familiar names! I recommend this park and playground for those who have kids needing to get rid of energy or those who need to walk and clear their head.

When I saw that Brecknock Park had a wooden playground, I figured I had to check it out. The park is absolutely beautiful. There's lots of open space for throwing around a frisbee, jogging, picnicking, playing soccer - you name it! There's a small garden area to walk through that has the plants and trees labeled (always nice to get in a little outdoor education). The wooden playground was everything I'd hoped for - very well-maintained, lots of different jungle gym options, and I got in my obligatory swing set time on a nice, sturdy swing set. Whether you live in the area or are just passing through, I'd definitely recommend spending some time at this park. Wish I could have enjoyed it longer! I'll absolutely plan on stopping by again next time I'm visiting that area.

That's the…read moreonly reason I've given it 3 stars, because the small playground itself would barely earn 2 otherwise. The Children's Memorial Playground is relatively new, according to the Queen Anne's County official website. The equipment is perfect for smaller children (my DGS, who is almost 10, quickly lost interest). But really, the lack of shade is a real deal-breaker for us - the equipment gets hot! It appears the park is mostly devoted to sports, with several softball/baseball diamonds, a sand volleyball court, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and a concession stand for refreshments. The website also lists batting cages and a lacrosse field, which we didn't see. It appears there is a paved trail that runs through it and off in two directions (Cross Island Trail) so the parking lot provides free parking for that. Whenever we travel, we always seek out a new playground so the kiddos can run off steam. It worked for that, briefly, but it was just too hot to hang out there for long. And I wish the info board had more, well, info on it.
