Our picnic was interrupted when a beautiful stallion started chasing rivals around us, we just watched and moved out the way as they ran around us!! In the photo he has just leaped off the bridge in front of us!! It was an exciting picnic that's for sure... if you do visit make sure to take all your litter and litter you see to a bin or home, we come to revel in these beautiful places let's all be good citizens and keep it beautiful. You can see so many wild birds from one of the steamers or private boats that plough up & back to Dittisham (& Agatha Christies' house which overlooks the river) & on to Dartmouth. I have even seen seals & otters playing in the water near Dartmouth. You can catch a steamer at the appropriately named Steamer Quay in Bridgetown on the other side of the River from the Town Centre. This trip costs £14 return drinks onboard A Round Robin : Bus to Paignton from Totnes,then Train from Paignton to Kingswear then Ferry to Dartmouth & Steamer to Totnes is £21 but is money well spent. Heavitree Pleasure Grounds is a lovely park situated just off Fore Street in Heavitree, Exeter…read more It is a very large park with something for everyone with a lovely childrens play area, which is fenced off and large enough for picnics as well. In the children's area there are all the usual park play equipment plus a paddling pool. There is seating as well and is nicely grassed. There are tennis courts, a basketball court, bmx and skate areas as well as another fenced off area away from the childrens play area. No dogs are allowed in the fenced off areas. There are paths all the way around the park, there is access from several different directions and plenty of on road parking.. There are toilet facilities. It is also disabled friendly. There are some beautiful really old trees here. There is also a Bowling Club attached to the park.
