    Meatloaf drenched in ketchup

Ordered to go, 2 dinners. One baked steak and the other meatloaf. Got home, opened the box and found a thin slice of meatloaf drenched in ketchup. Called the restaurant and the girl stated it was supposed to be a thick slice and they're not allowed to pour ketchup all over it, and she was sorry. She stated they had a new cook .

The bar staff was outstanding from start to finish. We had a few different bartenders taking care of us, and each one was attentive, friendly, and great at helping with recommendations. We ordered the New York steak and the Brussels sprouts special. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium, and the Brussels sprouts hit that ideal balance--crispy, flavorful, and just right. Everything we had was packed with flavor. The drinks didn't miss either--ice-cold beer and expertly crafted cocktails all around. If you find yourself in Charleston, this spot is absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommend.

My margarita was not good at all. So bad that I didn't even drink more than half which is just a sin when it comes to expensive cocktails. My husband's chicken sandwich had about as much chicken as a tiny tender strip. He left hungry. I had the steak special. Which had good flavors (as anything covered in cheese would) but if I'm paying $60 for a medium rare steak, it's a shame that it came out medium well. Roasted cauliflower was mid, I make better at home in my air fryer. Service was good but the waitress was pretty pushy with the extras like we were insane for not ordering appetizers and not letting her bring us a glass of 4 roses. Ambiance was fine. But the experience was not worth my money, not even if it was half the cost honestly.

And I like to eat where the locals eat, no chain restaurants for me if at all possible. So with those thoughts in mind I decided to give this restaurant a try. I'm so happy to have found this restaurant! A really nice place, serving huge portions of fresh food. The french fries were freshly made and delicious, salads looked extremely fresh, and the service was quick with a great attitude. The restaurant and bathroom was clean and without any bad odors, wonderful value for lunch. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries as you can see in my photos. Come hungry! This comes with two sides. The slaw was good, and the hash brown cheese casserole was okay. The corn muffin was decent, with just a hint of honey. The pulled pork was served on a slice of toast. My personal favorite sauce was WV Gold, but they're all quite good. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful by itself. Good friendly service. Prices are excellent, especially for the quality of food you are being served.

I had first heard about it on their last day of the season in 2021. 2022 they didn't open for personal reasons, so we were excited to hear about the opening this year! We went for lunch, and we were not disappointed! The portions were large, messy, and so incredibly delicious! While people with better manners than I might have gone for a fork, I made do with my hands and a stack of napkins! We both got the deep fried tacos, which were literally as big as our heads. Filled with meat, cheese, banana peppers, jalapeños, tomato, onion and shredded lettuce, these things were massive! We chatted with the owners, and if we weren't sold on the place before, their enthusiasm, personality and love of the people of WV would have done it! They were gearing up for the busy weekend ahead of travelers and trail riders, and we look forward to returning!

The Husky Den is a locally owned restaurant operated by Billy Wehrle, a Big Chimney, Elk River born and raised resident, and a huge supporter of HHHS sports for several decades. The interior of the newly opened restaurant is filled with memorabilia and artifacts from the new and old school. According to their Facebook page they have one goal, to become the #1 place for West Virginia style hot dogs in the state. I've eaten a lot of WV hotdogs at a lot of places all over the state, including the formally ranked #2 hot dog at Yokums near Seneca Rocks. The Husky Den puts up a really good fight with their hot dogs and they definitely belong right there at the top. This place is definitely worth the stop if you love West Virginia style hot dogs. The menu is ever evolving and they focus on locally sourced food such as using local beef and vegetables when possible. The restaurant has revived local classics that no longer exist such as the Larry Maynor Blue Creek Special which was a sandwich served to high school students at a local convenience store that was open for decades but was lost when Maynors closed. The prices are really great and affordable for all, aimed at being available and within reach of the high school students located nearby. The inside is quite small but the staff are well trained and move orders quickly. There is a really nice outside eating area adjacent to the restaurant and there is parking in front of and behind the building. Since the Clendenin Dairy Queen closed there was no where on the Elk River that you could get a proper WV dog until now. Stop in and support a local business that supports the local school and students.

If you've been searching the world for *the* perfect Reuben sandwich, stop. Put down your passport…read more Cancel your food pilgrimage. Because the greatest Reuben of all time isn't hiding in some upscale deli in New York or tucked away in a quaint European bistro. No, it's right here in Elkview, WV--at The Husky Den. I don't know what kind of wizardry they're working with in that kitchen, but their Reuben is *transcendent*. The corned beef is piled high, juicy enough to make a grown man weep. The Swiss cheese melts like it's been blessed by the culinary gods, and the sauerkraut? Perfection. But let's talk about the bread--crispy, golden, with just the right crunch, like it was toasted by angels. And don't get me started on the ratio. Some places drown their Reubens in dressing like they're trying to hide something. But The Husky Den? They understand balance. Every bite is a harmonious symphony of flavors, an edible masterpiece that could bring international peace if only world leaders would sit down and try it. Long story short--if you love food, you owe it to yourself to make the pilgrimage to Elkview and order this Reuben. Just prepare to have all other sandwiches ruined for you forever.
