Rented 3 kayaks for July 4th weekend. I brought my own. Staff was super informative and friendly. I did get scolded for parking in a no parking zone. After I told them I'm just unloading my kayak, it was all good. Nice area for first time kayakers. One of the attendants even helped me carry my kayak up a little hill after we were done. Coming from Hampton Va, we failed to consider the traffic that would last past our reservation time. After giving Tula Paddle Sports a call, they were very accommodating and patient with us. Prior to arrival, I initially booked 2 kayaks and 3 paddle boards. When we got there, we all decided to paddle board and with the help of the staff, they were able to make it happen. They were kind enough to teach us a few tricks as it was some of our first time paddle boarding. So, thank you Tula Paddle Sports, for giving us an amazing experience. Ps. I love Tula! I rented once a SUP and it was so much fun. I spent the day at Long Creek, very nice area. Before arriving it is a bit confusing because they are doing works on the pavement, but if you continue driving to the end of the street, you will see them. There is free parking and they are very friendly. read more

Prices are fair. The kayaks are small and self-baling without plugs, so if you are a full sized adult you will be weighted down and sitting in at least several inches of water in your cockpit. The young people who work there are nice, but too busy when we were there. Make sure to fill out your waiver online before you arrive or you will be wasting a lot of time at the shack. read more

Wonderful rental experience! We were staying on the Virginia Beach Bayfront and found Tula on Google. It was only a few minutes away from our hotel. The office is located in a little hut on the marina past the apartment complex and the Surf Rider Restaurant. There's a lot of parking; they'll give you a pass to park in the marina member spots. We easily reserved paddle boards and kayaks online. All their equipment is in good condition and the service was great. In addition to rentals, they offer tours and classes. You have your choice of paddling up river toward the First Landing State Park and Broad Bay or down river toward the Chesapeake Bay. Great experience all around! read more

What a fun activity to do on the beautiful inlets on Shore Drive! Rented paddle boards on a Monday afternoon, and had a private instructor help us out (2 people I was with have never paddle boarded before). Our instructor was great and such a positive energy to be around- she even taught us a few tricks to try to those who here comfortable on the boards. Went on the water for about an hour, and the paddle boards were very well kept and nice to use. The only reason i am not giving 5 stars is because it was a little hectic and not organized when we first got to the Tula Shack, just seemed like the communication between the staff and us was not there(waiver issues, where we put our items,etc). However, as soon as our instructor took us to the water, it was all up hill from there! Would definitely recommend Tula is looking for kayak or paddle board rentals, just be patient if they are busy because it is well worth the wait! read more

These folks were so friendly, affable and helpful, and I'll DEFINITELY be giving them my business every chance I get. We took a paddleboarding lesson from them last week and found the instructor to be kind and laid-back, fun to hang out with. We then rented two paddleboards for the next 24 hours, to be dropped off at our rental and had a blast with them. We're at a different rental now and rented the boards again and everyone has really gone the extra mile to provide spectacular customer service even while understaffed at the tail end of the busiest season. I can't recommend these folks highly enough, and I hope they thrive in the years ahead. read more

When I called they were very understanding and refunded me right away with no issues. The experience overall was great. Awesome time! My friend and I were taken care of and paddling in the water with no delay. I cut my foot on a hidden oyster (they warned me) hiding in vegetation and the staff took care of it pronto. Antiseptic, bandage and some take later I was back on the board. read more

Just dropped my dog for grooming and had a couple of hours to do something fun so decided to take a ride to Tula kayaking. It was no problem for them. I got a single kayak on the spot and had 2 hours of fun kayaking and enjoying nature at it's finest. It was wonderful, not expensive and with top of the line customer service. Hi, I have been more than generous, yet I don't want random people trekking through my yard. And I have a large dog. I do not want anything to happen. I just told two women they could not walk through my yard to get to the other side of the island, back to you. I have to give it to them, they did ask me. This place was such a treat to visit on our trip this year! We had a great time on the kayaks and the staff was so friendly and ready to help if needed! The wildlife is so prevalent and lovely to see while you glide down the channel. All the staff wears masks and gloves and clean all the equipment down between each use. Had a great experience and am definitely going to rent again! Rented two single kayaks and a paddle board. It was an extremely easy process that was able to be done completely online (scheduling/ reserving, payment, and waivers) so that was great so nothing needed to be exchanged in person. When arriving, the staff was friendly and helpful and had marking time ensure safe distancing and were wearing masks and sanitized everything for us. Tula is the best place in Va Beach for charters - water sports or just sightseeing. I've now chartered Tula for 3 private events and sent my niece and nephew (8&9) to wakeboard camp for a week. Isa and her team are simply amazing. They are patient!! They interact with the kids in a way that makes them feel special. I know I would not have the patience, but Isa and her crew definitely get this! They also have adult only options... including a floating Tiki Bar that is on my agenda for next summer. read more

This was a great little spot for kayaking and we had a blast taking in nature in all her glory. We grabbed a quick bite right on the marina afterward which really made this hidden gem of a spot worth every penny. A well needed and enjoyable day out! We rented a double and single kayak as we had our 5 year old with us. Bring a change of clothes if you are renting a single as you will get wet, the kayak is designed to fill with a bit of water. The double was not like the single and did not fill with water so our daughter was dry as a bone but if you are paddling you will get wet which was no biggie. The day started out nice but the employees kept trying to upsell us on everything even though we only needed paddles they seemed nice and like it was part of the business however things took a turn very quickly. You could tell they were fun suckers and didn't want others to have fun which is sad because this should be a fun summer activity. One of our friends got a cut on his foot and we asked for the first aid kit the girl that was helping us the whole day laughed said I figured you would need one and when I asked why she said everyone needs the first aid kit very passive aggressive. And they didn't care that we got hurt, they just wanted all of their stuff but and said "did you have a fun time?" So passive aggressive. Just not what we wanted to hear, we actually ended up going to the ER afterwards. They were no help. Pretty rude staff I would say overall and they love to up charge you and don't have any medical experience. read more

Decided to rent 2 paddleboards for 2hrs from Tula. The total cost (purchased online) was close to $90. Although pricey I did find it is on par, if not slightly less expensive, then other water sport rental companies in the area. I made the reservations about 3 days in advance. When we arrived it was a bit confusing finding the launch area. I know marina shores well but have never noticed Tula. There was a small sign pointing in a general location so we walked that way and found ourselves in front of a small office building with the Tula name. Tried the door and it was locked so we decided to continue walking. Ends up they have a decent set up trailer at the very end of the marina in the back corner...they definitely need more signs/directions at the location or at the very least online! My suggestion, when you pull into the marina parking lot area, drive to the very end of the lot, it's a decent sized parking lot! When we finally got to the trailer there was a very nice but slightly hassled young lady at the trailer helping another couple who were walk ins. We had all of our paperwork signed and the verification of our reservation on hand but it didn't seem like they are strict on getting started on time. No worries though. The poor girl had to get two paddleboards and two kayaks with all the equipment ready by herself so we were patient. When we got to the water a young man was paddling in who we discovered works there. Maybe it was an off day BUT he wasn't particularly helpful to us or to the young lady who was trying to help 4 people by herself. At first he came to help us but was blunt and seemed disinterested in being personable. Again, maybe it was a rough day for him. Within 2mins of instruction (this was our 1st time paddleboarding) he had to go take care of another family that wanted to extend their time or something. Slightly disappointing seeing as we had an actual reservation and were already 15mins past our start time. The young lady realized we were waiting and talked us through everything in a very personable manner, super sweet and supportive with us asking questions. All of the equipment seemed well taken care of, no issues. They provide life vests which are mandatory. The lady gave us some tips and directions of where we should start paddling first to work with the changing tides. Then we were off. The rental boards are particularly wide and long which allows for more stability for 1st timers. We were able to stand up within minutes of getting on the water. We paddled through the various marinas and inlets during our 2hrs with no issues! The two of us truly enjoyed our time out on the water and didn't feel rushed or bothered. I got my reservations for 4-6p. Ends up they close at 5p BUT if you have a reservation they are fine with the extra hour. Again, I didn't feel pressured to come in early. Once we were done the 2 original employees and another (possibly the owner) were waiting near the shore to help us. The owner was kind and asked about our experience. The entire experience was very chill, what one would expect from a locally owned and operated water sports business haha. The only two negatives was the lack of signs about the location and the young man who seemed to be having an off day. But I don't think either of those warrant a loss of stars. I'd totally rent from them again. Their location on the marina is perfect and their chill demeanor made the experience relaxed and devoid of pressure. PS they did have a small sign at the trailer that they accept tips. Since they were closing and our car was literally parked a 10min walk from the trailer where we kept our wallets, we didn't have anything on us to give which I felt bad about...would have liked to give the young lady a tip. ALSO you can keep your bags, car keys, what have you in their trailer. read more

Ocean Rental suggested this place to me because they were really busy the weekend before July 4th. It was very reasonable in price and they took us as walk ins. Paid with credit card. 1hr tandem kayak for $30. Tula also does SUP (stand up paddleboards). There are some yachts and boats you have to share the saltwater with but it was fun nonetheless. We came to VAB for a wedding and casually decided to rent a boat. Isa took 6 of us wakeboarding in the bay and, suffice to say that this was the highlight of our trip. Isa brings her dad, who is an orthopaedic surgeon by day, first mate by night (and weekend). I highly recommend the mastercraft wakeboard boat over the pontoon. You will not regret it. read more
