Bryan was very helpful in getting us set up (and also kept asking if we could handle 2 hours haha). The next morning we met up with the tour guide Will at 840am and signed the waiver before starting the tour at 9am. Will was very helpful in getting us situated and starting to paddle. My boyfriend's kayaked once but this was my first time and it wasn't bad! Will provided some ecosystem information but unfortunately we didn't see any dolphins (he said there were 6 or 7 who lived in the area). We finally saw three or four dolphin fins in the water once we reached the dock and unloaded at 11am, the end of the tour. Unfortunately most of the time was spent either paddling or trying to spot dolphins so not too much conversation was made during the tour but it was still interesting and fun for my first time. Hopefully if we get another chance to come down to VA, we can see the dolphins and enjoy another tour. Pro tip is to wear waterproof shorts because your butt and legs get wet. Also bring a towel in the car and make sure to put lots of sunscreen on before the tour. Our tour was July 6th 9am to 11am and it was hella nice til 10am when the sun greeted us veeeeery well. A hat would help!

Also can book a room with a balcony overlooking the beach (we did). Parking is also free with stay and there's a garage-another positive. The area is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of Virginia Beach. Also, the indoor is nice with hot tub but very small. There's an outdoor pool too but it's also small. That's kind of where the positives end though . I will say on our two-night stay, I did not see any bug-even an ant-in our room. Housekeeping does not clean the room and only empties the trash so if you need anything ask the front desk. They are generally friendly. Our two double bed room has definitely seen better days. The beds seemed relatively newish but everything else very dated. We also had a handicapped room and that included the bathroom so it was just a massive tiled room with no borders. Not great for those that don't need that. Breakfast is not included. Be prepared. There's a general restaurant here but we only ate breakfast once and chose to not eat here again. TLDR: you are paying for private beach access. If that's your priority, reserve your room. If not, keep looking.

When I checked into the room I observed the air conditioner was dislodged from the wall, the light in tbe kitchenette was inoperable, the know for the hot water was missing on the faucet, and there was a leak at the faucet. I reported these issues. The following day I returned to my room. There was a plumber in my room with big machines. He mentioned that he had to remove the plumbing in order to fix the leak. I went to the front deck and asked when the leak will be fixed. The 2 people at the front desk were not wearing name tags. Come to find out the names of the 2 people at the front desk were Kameron and Dani. Cameron became upset and informed me they are repairing the leak I reported and they had to turn the water off in the building while raising his voice leaning over the counter! The plumber Eric, the only reasonable person gave me a free meal pass at the restaurant on property. At the restaurant, I ordered a beer, the glass was broken! The bartender poured the beer into another glass and gave it back to me! I checked out after 1 day! Dani did not want to give me a receipt upon check out. I called corporate and spoke with Ronnie! He refused to assist me in making it right! I did get a refund for the days I didn't stay there! Wyndham Virginia Beach Ocean Front and corporate office you earned your 1 star review! HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!

But I was thinking Back Bay Wildlife Refuge where I've seen lots of them. There were no cottonmouths. I promise you. Just lots of duck blinds and marsh areas that open into the bay. It was so serene. You get 2 hours, and rental includes the pfd and they loan you a waterproof phone case if needed which was nice. Because I was pretty dry until I got out of the kayak from our 2 hours. I landed in waist deep water, my feet sunk into the sand. I couldn't recover from the fall and face planted into the water - baseball hat, sunglasses and waterproof phone case and all. THAT waterproof phone case saved my phone and my key fob!! Don't do what I did Launch it parallel to the land so you don't end up in the water like I did. The young man that worked there was kind and genuinely concerned. When he arrived to pull the kayaks further up on land, he asked if I got hot. Because he saw I was soaking wet. I think he thought I took a dip in the water. But I told him, I actually fell in getting out of the kayak. (The older couple with their beach chairs outside Baja got quite a show of me splashing around. Haha. ) He made sure I was okay and asked if my phone was okay and to make sure since the waterproof phone cases aren't 100% waterproof. Thankfully, it was fine and so was my key fob. You can rent single or tandem kayaks and are free to roam the area. It's $35 plus tax but they offer military discounts 10% with ID so it came out to $33.39 for me. Staff was very nice the young man was the same person who checked us in and took our payments and the young ladies were friendly and kind as well. Kudos to the staff with their patience, because there was a large group (family) that was blocking the entrance to the shack. When it was time for them to gear up for their pfds, they ransacked the racks of life vests and staff had to politely inform them that they have it in order and will fit each of them individually properly. Therefore there's no need to take them off the rack. I looked it up on their website and if you have your own kayak you can pay a $15 launch fee so that's cool.

Today was my wife's birthday; she is very adventurous. The staff was amazing. They explained what to expect and provided the necessary safety equipment. The ride was fantastic. I am 50+, and I was holding on, with my eyes closed and a smile, to my two kids. The driver helped me adjust to changes in speed and water turbulence resulting from the boat ride. My kids and my wife were laughing. They helped us create a lasting family legacy moment we can cherish. I will come again and use them in the future. There is one nice wide family slide for everyone. There is one super steep one that my six year old braved successfully. The last two are like a twisty open one and then a twisty closed tube style. No life jackets are allowed on the slides but the lifeguards literally stand there and catch your kids and take them back to the side to get out and go again. I was there by myself outnumbered and nervous about my nonswimming kids and no life jackets but quickly relaxed and realized my kids were safe and having the time of their lives. The lifeguards were happy to pass my kids to me but also totally fine if I got out to go do the family slide with one of them if needed. That's always the tricky part of being outnumbered by kids - when the pack wants to split up and I can't be two places at once. Anyway the snack bar food was pretty terrible but pizza was alright. You can bring in a cooler though. Next time I'll pack a full picnic for everyone. They do a lot of adult swims so the lifeguards can rotate but that gives everyone a chance to grab a snack and potty and also gave us a nice window to exit. The pool temp was fantastic and the water was clean. It's a government facility so there's some stuff that could use an upgrade naturally but for $10 a person I was impressed!

Admission is $6 for active duty, retirees, reservists, & eligible family members, $8 for guests (up to 2 guests per adult w/ ID), kids 3 and under are free. Season passes are based on the number of people in your family... 1= $60, 2= $110, 3= $135, 4= $170, 5= $200, 6= $225 Despite the website's direction that no outside food is allowed and you must purchase food from concessions, *EVERYONE* brings a cooler with lunch in it. So, pack away and save yourself a fortune in concession stand prices. This is a clean and well-maintained facility, for sure. They offer pavilion rental and swimming lessons, which is great! One thing you'll want to warn your kids about ahead of time is "adult swim time" which is a 15 minute break for the kids from the pool they allows the adults to enjoy the facilities (and helps prevent sun-poisoned, exhausted kids)... my kids were upset because adult swim happened 10 mins after we arrived. Oops! There is plenty of seating and it's not so crazy (or wasn't today) that there are long lines... if you get here in time to snag a table, you'll have shade under an umbrella, but annoyingly, people fill the tables with their stuff (even though they aren't sitting there) and you'll be left without shade unless you plan ahead. The snack bar is an array of popsicles, string cheese, burgers, and preservative-packed packaged food that will run you between $0.50 and $5.00 per item. Not terrible on price, really, but far from health-friendly. Better than nothing! For $6/$8 per person, it's a great time. Pack a lunch to save more money, bring as many friends as you can fit in your car. We will be back!

We took our two children, ages 10 and 11 for the 9 am morning tour of 1st Landing State Park. We ordered the double kayaks, which was a good idea, because the kids could take a break from paddling when they got tired. The tour guides were outstanding. We had 3 guides in 3 different boats, all of whom were very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the bay, the wildlife, and the history of the region. We had two opportunities to get out of the boats and explore the sandy beaches. It was a perfect trip and we will definitely book in the future when we return to Virginia Beach. read more

If you want to have fun, Kayak Nature Tours is the way to go. I did the dolphin tour with my brothers and we hd a blast. It is work but is worth it, the dolphins were right next to me, probably one of the best experiences i had so far. The tour guides are friendly and help you to have a safe and fun experience. You can also jump out of your kayak to swim around which is ice especially if it is hot out. I would defiantly recommend this place! read more

Once back in the boat, we got to enjoy watching the other three groups of people have their turn. Each group (couple) got to be in the air about 5 minutes, then get dipped in the water toward the end, then back up in the air before landing on the boat. The rougher the water, the more likely someone will get seasick while riding in the boat. The operators provide sick bags and have an awesome sense of humor! And a great playlist!

He gave us a brief run down on how to paddle and we set off. He went at our pace and was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and wildlife. We all had a blast!
