** Tully Rinckey's response to my reviews is disingenuous. We already addressed this matter directly with the firm. The only options presented were to continue paying them to correct mistakes in their work--despite their already having the necessary information and documentation--or to close the matter and receive only the unused portion of the retainer. They had the opportunity to resolve this privately and chose not to. ** My 88 year old Mom and I retained Tully Rinckey after a year and a half of fighting dangerous snow/ice, blocked ADA access, egress aisles, repeated maintenance failures, and misleading "100% maintenance-free" representations in our 55+ senior community. We hired the firm to advise us regarding breach of contract, fraud, discrimination, and landlord retaliation under New York Real Property Law § 223-b, and to prepare a strong demand letter. Attorney Ashleigh Rousseau billed $1,815 to review our materials, research ownership, and draft the demand. Despite having the necessary information already directly in front of her, the draft was a complete failure. She addressed it to a former employee, mishandled basic ownership and recipient details, misstated our timeline, and omitted major facts and claims. Instead of forcefully addressing the retaliatory non-renewals, rent increase, ADA and egress issues, misleading "100% maintenance-free" representations, and serious impact on our household, Rousseau's draft merely asked for clarification, future procedures, and meetings. The demand read like an invite for tea and crumpets rather than the powerful legal demand we were promised. The necessary information was not missing; Rousseau simply failed to accurately reflect the facts we paid her firm to review. Between her subpar work and the "supervising" attorney's billing, a majority of our $4,000 retainer was consumed producing a defective draft. When the firm expected us to continue paying to correct Ashleigh's errors, we refused. As a result, we lost the majority of our retainer and walked away with nothing. Terrible Law Firm Hired Ms. Youngman (a partner at TR) to handle a breach of Separation Agreement/Divorce. After repeatedly telling me my case was cut & dry (which it was) she managed to turn it into a DISASTER which cost me $185,000! After months of getting no where, a trial was finally scheduled so the Judge could resolve the (1) outstanding issue in my Separation Agreement (disputed/delinquent alimony payments) and grant the uncontested Divorce. Two hours before our long-awaited trial, Ms. Youngman called and said my husband wanted to settle on the alimony. She rattled off his offer, I requested a change & she called back within minutes saying my husband & his attorney agreed on the change. This was a $185,000 CASH settlement so I told her I would meet everyone at the courthouse within the hour to sign the settlement papers, She abruptly said no need since my husband & his attorney would no longer be going to the courthouse now that we agreed on a settlement.. I told her I wanted the settlement in writing and that there was no reason we couldn't all meet for an hour at the courthouse to do so since everyone had already cleared their schedules for the trial that morning.. She insisted it was not necessary for everyone to meet and not to worry as she would contact the Judge's law clerk and have the clerk "put the settlement terms on The Record so my husband couldn't wiggle out later." Weeks went by and I had not received anything back from Ms. Youngman or the court so after several unreturned phone calls I called her supervisor Ms. King and finally received a call back. HY told me to stop stressing out- that everything was fine-and that she was just waiting on my husband's attorney to finalize some language in the settlement. She called it "housekeeping issues". When I asked what the hold up was getting these "housekeeping issues" done, she said my husband's attorney was tied up in a difficult and lengthy trial and would not be able to meet with her until his trial was over.... Another month went by with nothing, so I started calling her office again and this is when she informed me that my husband refused to honor the settlement! I was very upset but said OK lets get the Judge involved so he can enforce the settlement-since it was already on The Record with his clerk. She told me that too much time had gone by since our trial so the Judge won't get involved!!! She then tried to soften her huge $185,000 mistake by saying "these things happen" and "it's too bad but there is nothing we could do." This was totally unacceptable so I reached out to Ms. King-who was not at all helpful nor sympathetic and just seemed annoyed by my call. With no other resources at TR, I went ahead and called the Judge's law clerk who surprisingly informed me that Ms. Youngman never provided or recorded any details of our Settlement to her or the court! Ms. Youngman allowed a $185,000 CASH settlement for her client (and firm) to slip away because she was arrogant and incompetent. She did not listen to her client and instead she refused to make any effort to properly secure her client's $185,000 settlement in writing, even though she had the opportunity to do so before canceling her client's long awaited trial. Instead, she walked away with nothing more than a verbal promise from a sketchy 2-bit attorney! Trust me, you do not want this law firm representing you. They are unprofessional, unethical and do not respect their clients or the rule of law. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE read more

When I traveled home to see my family who had questions about my current situation, it was easy to set up a time to meet with the professionals in the Syracuse office. I called Tully-Rinckey because I was obtaining a divorce from a service member and their law firm was founded by former JAG attorneys. My lawyer was helpful in explaining the "civilian" part of the divorce, but there were some errors in the "military" part (regarding division of pension and SBP) that needed correcting. My lawyer consulted another lawyer for proper wording, yet even she got it wrong. I did my own research and brought it to their attention. My lawyer was always professional and as prompt as she could be with her court schedule as well. I would use my lawyer again if I needed to, but I would also be my own best advocate also... read more

Syracuse location review. Terrible service, took over 7 months to get basic estate docs. Original attorney said we would get a significant amount of the $5500 retainer back, turns out not true. Omg! Hired them for an open shut divorce, or so they told me. I've been separated from my wife for 12 years, we share no assets, custody and support for our child was already determined by the court, and my ex contested nothing. 2 years later they are ready to finalize the divorce, but unfortunately my retainer is gone and they need $500 more. Not to mention without explaining why, my lawyer dumps my case onto another lawyer without telling me. So I've got this broad I've never even met emailing me asking for more money to finalize my divorce. When I questioned them on their practices they started lawsplaining to me about process. I know a lot of people who have recently gone through divorces, contested to the max(cars, houses, children, debt.. none of these were concerns in my divorce) and they were done in a year. I now feel like I need a lawyer just to talk to my lawyer. 1 star rating on the Better Business Bureau's website, I should have checked before wasting my money. read more
