After taking their enormous fee up front and delaying the start date for the Medicaid penalty process costing the family more money, an OVERSIGHT was found on the firm's submitted Medicaid application resulting in an additional MASSIVE penalty. This oversight was based on an estate distribution between my mother and myself. And I, as a non-expert, thought a legal waiver from my mother that was drew up by an attorney would cover the estate share percentage indifference to satisfy the Medicaid application. However, as the "SO CALLED EXPERTS" in the Medicaid application field, this law firm should have REVIEWED, IDENTIFIED and CORRECTED this oversight BEFORE the application was submitted. But instead of OWNING up to their oversight and FIGHTING FOR THEIR CLIENT to REDUCE the massive penalty, the owner of the law firm decided to gaslight me with some law jargon and falsehoods saying, I thought I would not have to pay any penalty after ALREADY PAYING over $127,000 in penalties. He continued on by stated there was NOTHING THEY COULD DO about the oversight to REDUCE THE PENALTY at this point. Furthermore, he went as far as to PERSONALLY DEGRADING me with a NASTY EMAIL because I called him out on his oversight that ended up hurting the family. But it was actually before I received his nasty email that I concluded that this law firm WAS NOT going to provide their CONTRACTUAL DUTIES and ADVOCATE for their CLIENT. So, I decided to FIGHT FOR MYSELF. THEREFORE, I CONTACTED THE MEDICAID CASE WORKER WHICH RESULTED IN REDUCING MY PENALTY IN A MATTER OF 15 MINUTES, SOMETHING THE LAW FIRM CONFESSED THEY COULDN'T DO. I guess they should hire me with a "CAN DO" attitude to get things done. Moving forward, I hope the owner of the law firm reads this because MUCH OF THE TENSION between the firm owner/paralegal and myself could have been AVOIDED COMPLETELY if they had just CALLED ME BACK when I asked them too. THREE TIMES I asked them to CALL ME, the CLIENT, with EACH LACK OF CALL BEING MORE UPSETTING THAN THE LAST. However, instead of BEING BOTHERED by a 10-minute conversation with their client, which probably would have resulted in keeping the relationship on course, the owner of the firm decided to write that nasty email, which probably took him more than 10 minutes, resulting in DESTROYING ANY SENSE OF RELATIONSHIP with their client, UNFORGIVEABLE! In my mind, besides not owning up to the oversight and FIGHTING for their client, not CALLING back their client was the most UNPROFESSIONAL and UNPARDONABLE act a law firm owner could have ever done! If this UNETHICAL PRACTICE continues, clients will not come knocking. And just as a tip, besides not calling a client back, when you decide not to advocate or fight for your client, responding with ARROGANCE is not a good look for any business. Finally, as a past manager and business owner, if this law firm owner responds negativity to this review, he has not learned anything and will not be improving polices/protocols for his business/firm or future clients.

I called them to schedule that consultation and was told it would cost $300. I inquired about that fee and was told it meant I wouldn't be obligated to hire them after the consultation. I suggested that their statement was misleading and any law firm would likely offer the same thing. I also asked isn't a $300 fee an obligation??? My view is; Why would you hire a law firm that misleads you from the very beginning?

When at that time I was refereed to him, they did not tell me that his first consult is free. I spoke to Joseph for an hour or two, he promptly accepted $100 taking advantage of my lack of understanding. Once I was informed by the BAR association that he was NOT supposed to accept any money, I contacted Mr. Bergh numerous times. He failed to send a check in the mail. I traveled up to his cubical which he rents from another Firm. When I asked for the money he became very aggressive to the point he was shaking and sweating. When I told him I would contact the police he got even more hostile and began to walk towards me. At this point I made it clear if he stepped one foot closer or touched me in any way I would have no problem contacting Law Enforcement. Mr. Bergh stated that I was "desperate" and "Crazy". And also assured me that he "never wants to see my face again and I am not allowed to come back". Which, if he was a real attorney, he would know that he doesn't have the authority to trespass me from the premises, the owner of the establishment does. To top it all off, Silly Mr. Bergh did all of this in front of a client he was consulting. When I asked him to step out and discuss this issue in the lobby, he replied with "if my client is going to pay me, she's also going to be my witness to this." Unprofessional, disgusting, and lacks basic understanding of work ethic.
