Bob is a gem! I recently moved to Turlock and I needed help when my VW CC's clockspring snapped. This was the second time. Since this issue was a recall on my car before, I went back to Tracy Volkswagen and asked them to replace it again since it is a VW warranty issue. The service manager at Tracy VW refused to honor the second repair on the clockspring issue and wanted me to pay full price. When I called Bob for help he referred me to VW Merced for this issue. It was such an awesome referral because VW Merced contacted VW and I still had 5 years left on my recall for the clockspring. It was fully covered! When that issue was taken care of, I needed my brakes replaced and I took my car to Bob. They did an awesome job and even found another issue that I wasn't aware of. When I first called Bob about my Nissan Sentra's transmission problems he immediately told me to call Nissan and see if they'll help me with the expenses KNOWING that if they agreed I'd have to go to a Nissan dealership for the repairs. He was so honestly and upfront, not for one second did he try to swindle me into taking it in and paying over $3500 to replace my transmission. I called Nissan and guess what?! They agreed to cover half!!! I saved a pretty penny on that repair and then a month later my AC went out (don't buy a Sentra folks) and the first thing I did was call Bob. I wanted to take the time to let everyone know what kind of business this is. I called to ask how much it would be for s starter to be replace. I spoke to Bob the owner of the business and he asked me a few questions. I told him it had been replaced already and because he took the time to tell me about warranty's and parts , we ended up finding out that it was all covered under the original warranty. Bob made nothing on this phone call but , helped out a person that was in desperate need of getting the car fixed Just because he took the time to listen and help someone over the phone he saved us almost 700.00 I really appreciate people like this. I would like to commend Bob at Tumazi Auto Repair for his wonderful advice for repair of my 2005 VW Passat Wagon. The key fob for my door locks was not working and the lock was malfunctioning when I use the key. He was very helpful and explained what could be wrong and the this would need to be repaired by a VW Dealer. He highly recommend Merced VW. I felt very confident in following his advice and received awesome service. I live in Turlock and will be taking my VW to Tumazi Auto Repair for future service. Its been over four years since I was quoted that high price for struts and shocks. Previously stated I had my struts changed/installed for a total of $300. I have driven over 225,000 miles since then and they are still OK. Bob wanted to charge me $1500!!! What a rip off . read more

The owner was helpful when i was inquiring about the price of the work i needed done. He was very chatty and took the time to pull the error codes off my vehicle. I was told that the work would take two or three days, so when i dropped my car off over the christmas holiday and left it there for two weeks, i thought it would be done. When i called to check on it on the day it was supposed to be done i was told that it wasn't done and that additional parts needed to be ordered. To be fair, i had provided a kit for the repair and it turned out that there was an incorrect that was included by that vendor. However, i would have expected that Tumazi's would have discovered the mistake and ordered the part long before the car was supposed to be done. Still, my problem wasn't with that issue. I was quoted $400 for the work which was just labor, but it turned out to be over $600. I did not receive a call or any notification that the cost would be substantially higher, so since i had been budgeting and saving my money to have the repair done the higher price was a surprise. Still, i could have dealt with that. My problems started when, the shop changed the oil in my car which had just been changed a week prior to leaving it with them for the repair, without asking me or without my permission. They changed the oil because of a "noise" that they heard in the vehicle, which was a "noise" that i had already talked to them about at least twice and was an item that needed to be repaired but was/isn't crucial (in actuality i haven't fixed the noise yet and its been over a year and i just got back from a 2100 road trip, all with not problems.) My car is a turbo and as such i use specifically formulated synthetic oil in it and a specific oil filter based on manufacturer service bulletins that have been released. Both of those were essentially wasted since the oil and filter were discarded with less than 500 miles on the oil change (dealer says you can go 7000 miles on an oil change.) The oil and filter installed were run-of-the-mill. To make matters worse, the oil plug was over tightened in the oil pan which stripped it and resulted in an oil leak. I was told by the shop that I would have to replace the oil pan in order to fix the leak, for a cost of "about" $300. I found a kit online that had an upgraded oil pan (steel instead of aluminum and more ground clearance), pickup unit, and everything needed for the replacement for $125 and put it on myself in less than an hour. I've always done my own auto repairs and i decided to have the work done by a shop because i didn't want to take the time myself, as well as being out of town. I have never been as unhappy with my service as i was here. I guess if you own a German car and don't know or don't care about the work that needs to be done and don't really care what the cost is, then this is a good place. They did know what they were talking about, however, it seems that they are used to dealing with people that don't know about cars or don't care. read more

My wife and I were taking our '85 Westfalia on a tour of Central Valley taco stands. Stopping for gas, I noticed I was missing a lug nut on a wheel and asked where I could find a local VW place. They recommended Tumazi, I stopped by and talked with the owner. In addition to having a lug nut, he even took the time to put it on and torque it to spec, even though I didn't want to trouble him with that. Hello, I am a female who was discriminated against by this mechanic. It is my fault for not doing more to stop it, but if my story helps others prevent getting ripped off, here goes. I was charged a certain price for a new fan and radiator work....when I went to pay, suddenly Bob tried to raise the bill!!! It hasn't been long enough for my "New" fan to start falling out of my car! I have really babied this car since I had it repaired, so nothing I did should have caused my fan to fall apart. I could tell by the way Bob was talking to me, that he thought I was some kind of dumb Barbie doll, and who ever heard of your price going up, (adding extra "repairs") without your consent! For all I know he went to pick and pull, and put a used fan in my car. Like I said, I've learned my lesson. Please don't be fooled. Notice how the female Nikkole credits Bob with being so "patient" with her regarding her lack of knowledge. Sweetheart, you don't need to be apologetic to anyone for not being a mechanic. And for the men, I suspect he's treating them differently then the women. read more

My '93 Buick Lesabre broke down after my belt came off and my alternator broke. I took it in to Tumazi Auto and I had very fast service and great quality service! I had called a friend to pick me up thinking I would have to come pick my car up later and the repair was done before my friend got there! They rebuilt my transmission. Three months later, the car was leaking oil profusely. They told me I needed a new engine, or a rebuilt one, ranging between 5-7K. I took it to another guy for a second opinion. He told me Tumazi had called asking about the cost of a rebuild. The rebuild from the other mechanic would have cost 5K. But it turned out it did not need a new rebuild at all. Instead, it needed a new fly wheel seal, which Tumazi had mucked up on the transmission rebuild he did. Tumazi was going to charge me 5-7K to fix something that didn't need fixed, and something for which his own negligence was responsible in the first place. Yes, it even turned out that he was going to farm the work out, have the other guy rebuild the engine and scoop 2K off the top claiming the work as his own. Confronted with the evidence, Tumazi did pay the cost of correcting his own problem (after verifying from my receipts that he had done the work within the last year; if I hadn't had those receipts, who knows what would have happened--a lawsuit, no doubt). Bob has vast volks knowledge and takes time to share it. If your looking fo OG parts dont be afraid to ask. I did and he had what i was looking for in the back! He let it go at a fair price. He also has access to good german or refurbished parts. He will not sell you garbage parts to reduce cost. I still had some troubles after installing the part i ordered. i dropped by in the oval and he lifted the car up and pointed out my "shade tree" mechanic mistakes. He dialed it in, and charged me O. I took my vehicle for a check engine light. I was quoted 65.00 for them to hook it up to the machine to get the code. They took it to the back of the shop, it took about 15 min and then I was told that the code was 12 (EGR) valve, and that it would take 95.00 more dollars to check it out. I paid the owner the money for the " diagnostic " and asked him to for my vehicle. They brought my vehicle to the front and gave me my keys leaving the kick board and the plate from under the glove compartment apart on my Seat. I had told him I was going to bring it back, but after seeing the work they did I proceeded to take it to another shop for a second opinion. I pulled over to put the parts back and discovered that the kick board was broken. When I went back to ask him to fix what they broke he said it was my word against his. I did take it to anther shop which checked it and showed me that it was a bad wire and that it was not a code 12. It was a miss firing piston.
