Let me start by saying that air travel is a large part of my job. I typically go for longer…read moreperiods of at least 2-weeks, sometimes months. For the last 15 years, I have travelled with 2 large checked bags; one with suits, "work" shoes/clothes, and other personal items you would need on a long trip, the other with everyday clothes, work equipment, and any miscellaneous overflow. As such, these bags always exceed the 50lb. limit. I regularly refer to them as "The Evil Twins" or "Thing 1 and Thing 2"... always troublesome. In the past, I had looked for hard-side polycarb composite bags for durability and content protection (particularly the equipment which a soft-sided bag just could not protect). Never wanting to spend much on bags that were going to be abused no matter what, I eventually settled on a Traveler's Choice Tasmania set with two 29" bags serving as "The Twins". I replaced each one with the same bag once over the years as they were eventually beaten up by baggage handlers unable to properly deal with the weight, slamming them down on their wheels. The wheels were never great to begin with; always difficult to roll together on airport terrazzo and a downright burden to pull down carpeted hotel hallways. This was always made worse when they were slammed down, breaking the bond that solidly held the wheel to the case. To their credit, they never broke off, but they were never right after that. To their discredit, they were never particularly light or maneuverable even when new. Towards the end of last year, I got a great new job with an amazing company. As my travels would continue and the twins were tired and ready to re-tire, I decided to invest in new bags. I did not want to spend a fortune (I just can't see pulling the trigger on two $1000 bags, no matter how awesome), but wanted something more durable, as large as or larger, hopefully lighter, and, most importantly, good wheels. Please, sweet gods of travel, good wheels. I decided I needed the advice of a professional. I had passed by Bronx Luggage many times over the years thinking "Why are luggage stores still around? Why don't people just order luggage from Amazon?" You may be reading this because you have thought the same things. I'm about to answer those questions (which now seem stupid), but I digress.... So I thought; "I'll go in, give them the story (that I just told you all), and listen to what they have to say." I went in skeptical. I told the man my reasons and requirements, and he began to go over my options and selections. I was already starting to be swayed when Marty joined in with additional suggestions. Wow. He explained that for a little bit more, I could have Bric's B/Y Ulisse bags. Made of polypropylene, they're LIGHTER, bigger, more durable, and, the kicker... great wheels. Italian-made quality. Winner. Yeah, you can find these bags on Amazon. You can also find them in places like Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. No matter, because of their brand, these bags are the same price WHEREVER you buy them. But trust me when I tell you they made it worth my while to purchase them from Bronx Luggage Store. I left with new twins and a new outlook on Bronx Luggage Store. Places like these exist BECAUSE of people like Marty. Personable, helpful, but most of all, knowledgeable. I can talk to dozens of colleagues and countless people that travel. How many have personal experience with the sheer number of brands and options that Marty has? Want know which bags get returned for what reasons and which fit your travel needs the best? Ask them. After 30+ years in the business, they've probably handled it before (and then some). But more than all of that, in this day and age of superstores, websites that sell EVERYTHING, AI suggestions, return policies, phone-routed customer service, on hold, enter a callback number, leave a voicemail.... It's a blessing to be able to deal with real people. Try them, you won't be sorry. Posting a pic of the new twins after their latest excursion.

I could not pull it hard enough to close it so I took it back n just to exchange it. As I walked in there were a couple of young male customers getting ready to cash out. The gentlemen sales person immediately told me they do not take back, exchange or refund merchandise. I hadn't said anything yet because he was waiting on these young men. I told him yes he would but take care of his customers first. Thus began a heated exchange between the two of us. Still he did this in front of the customers. He did finally finished with the customers and turned to me wanting to know what was wrong with the luggage. He perked the zipper back and forth and did get it to advance. However I was not able to do it. Finally he did call the owner and the owner relented and exchanged the piece and I appreciated that. What I did not appreciate was his exchange and rudeness in front of customers.

I've been a happy Travelpro customer for about 15+ years now. Their carry-on roller bags have been…read moresolid and reliable for my many travels through/on different airports, trains, vehicles, streets, sidewalks, and unpaved paths under a variety of weather and conditions. Simply put, I recommend Travelpro luggage to anyone who travels with any regularity. My mom, who is a decades-seasoned frequent international traveler, recommended Travelpro to me. She got me my first Travelpro bag. Travelpro is one of *the* brands that flight crews prefer and that's all you really need to hear. My first Travelpro roller bag replaced what I thought was a pretty good Samsonite roller bag. The reason why I replaced both bags was the same: the wheels wore out. However, the wheels on my Travelpro lasted several years longer than the wheels on my Samsonite (and it wasn't a cheap Samsonite either). I don't remember exactly when I got my first Travelpro roller bag, but I estimate it lasted me a good 10-15 years. Regarding my first Travelpro bag, the "tires" of the wheels fell apart while I was snaking through the TSA PreCheck security line at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Kind of embarassing. Fortunately, the "rims" stayed intact so I could continue to roll my Travelpro around for the rest of the trip and back home. Rolling around on the rims without tires, it was just a lot louder, more bumpy, and less smooth. I contacted Travelpro Customer Care by using the form on Travelpro's website. I received an automated email that said, "Please be advised that due to Covid 19 we are working with a limited number of employees and requests will take longer than usual. We appreciate your patience." I received an email from someone three days later. After providing the style number for my bag, I was informed that Travelpro did "not have the parts requested in stock. Your bag is covered with a Limited Warranty for defects only. Wheels are considered a wear and tear item and not a defect." "While we cannot provide parts or cover the repair, we can offer you 20% off at Travelpro.com for being a loyal consumer (Happy21)." While I had preferred to just replace the wheels on my bag since the rest of the bag was in excellent condition, it turned out to be a good thing I got a brand new bag because the new bag is just like my old bag except better. The new bag as the same capacity as my old bag except it's lighter, which I love. Travelpro definitely made some improvements to its luggage over the years. The new bag wasn't that expensive either. It was $120.40 after discount and taxes. Shipping was free. Travelpro has a wide selection of luggage to choose from and it can be overwhelming. I used the filters on the website to drill down to exactly what I wanted/needed, the Maxlite® 5 International Expandable Carry-On Rollaboard® ($139.99). It is wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a versatile roller bag. I use it all the time, almost constantly, not just for air travel, but for my numerous, monthly road trips as well. As far as overhead bins are concerned, unless I'm traveling on a small commuter jet, I've never had a problem with my Travelpro bags fitting into the overhead bins on any domestic or international carrier. One last thing - I've always preferred two-wheel roller bags while my wife prefers four wheels. There are pros and cons to each type. I prefer two-wheel roller bags because I can put my backpack on top of the roller bag and roll the two bags together. It's easier to do on a two-wheeler than a four-wheeler. I also have a bad back, so the two-wheeler is better for me given my back condition. The four-wheelers are nice because they glide so effortlessly. I do like that about them. Travelpro has an informative page on their site that describes all the differences between a two-wheel "Rollaboard" and a four-wheel "Spinner" which you can read here: https://travelpro.com/pages/2-wheel-vs-4-wheel-luggage.

It was $750+ (which is a lot for me). But I figured it was a worthy lifetime investment. However, when the luggage set showed up, the cartons were opened and one of the suitcases was unzipped and expanded and gave the distinct impression that it had been opened before. For $750+, I expect a brand new product in a properly sealed carton (a perfectly reasonable expectation). I reached out to customer service and provided some requested pictures, just to have them dismiss it as "minor cosmetic damage" and suggest I just keep it. I know Travelpro's warranty is great but I should not have to wonder if I need to take advantage of it immediately upon delivery. It looks like they don't do exchanges but rather I have to return it and rebuy. They have kept silent on whether they will honor the original price I paid (I bought during their Memorial Day sale). UPDATE: They refuse to provide a discount code so that I am not screwed over by their poor quality control. What a terrible way to treat customers who spend their hard-earned money with Travelpro.

NOTE: Employees and management suffer from ALCS syndrome. See next to last paragraph…read more This is not a review of their numerous offerings of overpriced luggage. It is based on two encounters, each for the same item. My initial experience with this store was calling them on the telephone. I googled for their number, 561-447-4315 - and phoned at 11:55 AM. The call went into voice mail. I did not leave a message. I called again, about an hour later, and the call again went into voice mail. I again did not leave a message. "Why not?", all my Yelp buddies may be asking, and the answer makes sense to me: The voice mail picked up, but there was no identifying information of what business I had reached. No recording such as "You have reached Bag 'n Baggage, we are helping others right now, please leave your name and number and we will..." So, it's my protocol not to leave my name and number randomly on answering units if I am not certain what number/person I have reached. I then checked YELP for their listing, wondering if I had, perhaps, reached an incorrect number. Nope, the number was as listed. I was planning on going to the Town Center Mall later in the day, and figured I would just stop by the store and see what's up. I arrived around 5 PM, and the store was empty, with two sales staff working at what appeared to be inventory management. Neither greeted us. I proactively inquired about the specific item I wanted - a DIGITAL LUGGAGE SCALE - and one of the staff showed me the various choices - if I recall, only two options. She explained which one she thought was better, and it was the one that I had in mind [its quite ultra uber] when I was considering my purchase, so I bought one of the two they had in stock. I then asked if their phone system was working, and showed her my iPhone, with the outgoing calls to her number earlier in the day, making sure I had dialed the correct number. She replied "oh yes, the phone is working, we were busy with inventory at that time, did you leave a message?", and I explained why I had not left one. She looked at me in an odd manner, so odd, that I snapped at her, and said "look, if I call what I believe to be a business and the business does not identify itself in its outgoing message, I will NOT leave a message". She still looked at me in an odd manner. BTW, this was Janeen T., the MANAGER. I finalized my purchase, and suggested to her that she consider adding an outgoing message to her phone system. And she said "I'll look into that." After I showed my friend Marsha my new cool digital electronic luggage scale, and asked her if she had a device to weigh her luggage, she said "no, can I use yours?", and I replied "no, the logistics on that would not work, I'll go buy you your own". I called the store on May 16, to ask them to put aside the one remaining device they had in stock, and no one answered the phone. And there was still no outgoing message. This time, I LEFT A MESSAGE, ASKING THAT THEY HOLD ASIDE THE LUGGAGE SCALE. I went to the store later that day, and was served by Jack. I asked him if he was there earlier, telling him what time I called, that the phone was not answered, and that I left a message. He said "oh, I must have been busy, and I haven't had time to check the phone for messages." [This store never looks real busy] Welcome to South Florida, where the poor level of customer service is pandemic. This establishment's staff and management suffer from ALCSS - Acute Lack of Common Sense Syndrome. It is a dangerous condition, be careful you do not catch this syndrome. As an aside, this ultra uber scale is a BALANZZA MINI DIGITAL LUGGAE SCALE, priced at $21.99. You can purchase it on Amazon.com for $15.32, and if you are a Prime Member, it ships free in 2 days. And Amazon's Customer service is awesome!

I've included a picture of it. So, I stopped by Shine Bags & Luggage in the Coral Ridge Mall. Shine Bags has been here for years and I've bought little things like backpacks from them previously. It's spotlessly clean and has bright lighting making your selection easy. Most everything in this store is of quality meaning meant to last. It's more expensive than the knockoffs found at the Swap Shop but worth it if you don't want to see your underwear, shirts and clothing appear on the luggage turnstyle prior to the remains of your fallen apart suitcase. As I've always used Zero-Halliburton Aluminum, I'm rather loath to change but now with them priced at $950, I might be just as well off with a new Samsonite carbon fiber that saw here for around $290. Anyway the selection a Shine Bags is really good with everything of good enough in quality for most travelers. Now I took a look at one, tried to unzip it and when I was done the zipper looked like it was going to break already, without any clothing on it. That's not going to last at all if you check it at the airport. I noticed most bags were around $35-$60 generally. Some bags looked like they'd be alright to travel with, but they were all names I'd never heard of before. Not saying that's good or bad, but I was not familiar with any of the suitcase brands. Would I get a bag here? Maybe. It depends on if I was looking for something long-lasting or not. If I'm looking for something to last a lifetime, then no way.
