I've been in Connon's shop several times. One visit was to do an initial visit. Another visit was to audition speakers. My latest visit was to audition DACs which led to my purchase of a Qutest DAC from Connon. I appreciate his dedication to providing the best in audio sound quality. He is very knowledgeable about the brands he carries and has a wide range of equipment available for audition. In a time when so much of the audio business is moving to Internet sales, my experience at Tune Hi-Fi is a excellent example of the value you get from actually being able to do a good in-person audition of the audio equipment you are considering. read more

I've been in the shop a few times in the last few years and purchased a Rega turntable and phono preamp in 2020. Each of my visits were with a friend of mine who has been a customer for many years who pre-arranged our visits. Connon has been amazing setting up multiple options and swapping out components so we could listen to the differences in various turntables, preamps, amps, speakers, subs, etc. for my listening room project which I hope to complete this year (summer 2024). Although I haven't personally taken advantage of his offer yet, Connon is willing to buy back equipment for upgrades (less than full price). This lowers the cost and burden of experimentation on the journey to build an amazing audiophile listening experience. Four years in and I'm still super happy with my Planar 6 turntable. Connon gave me a great deal on a demo model with a pre-installed Ania moving coil cartridge on which I've played hundreds of records. I don't know of a better place to shop in Seattle for HiFi sound equipment. Note: I noticed a handful of reviews complained about the hours (not open Sunday-Tuesday), lack of immediate personal greeting, or a verbal caution when interacting with expensive equipment like a $5K cartridge. I haven't experienced the same, but I've only been to the store on pre-arranged visits when we knew Connon would be here. That said, I don't compare this store with a typical "walk in, buy something, and leave" store that's open every day, has prices marked on everything, but virtually no expertise to help you make the best purchase decisions. With a little patience, you can get the most personalized service available, great deals, and fantastic products. Highly recommend! read more

We're in the process of adding some wall mounted speakers to our condo for a home theater setup. Walked in and wasn't greeted, walked around for a few minutes. My spouse gently raises the stylus of a turntable on display less than an inch using the provided finger-hold, and an employee tells us to be careful because the cartridge is worth $5,000. Walked out of the store. We'll take our business to somewhere else that isn't a museum. read more

The owner commented on my review and this is my response: I understand that you were busy, but you could have taken ten seconds to say something like "Hi, welcome! I'll be with you shortly, please look around in the meantime!". If a number of people that come into your store don't know how to use the products you have on display, or if the products you have on display are so very fragile and expensive, maybe consider putting up some signage showing how to use the products. There was nothing when we were there - no product details, no instructions, no prices. It's incredibly awkward to walk into a small, quiet shop with absolutely no information communicated about how I'm expected to conduct myself when the staff is too busy and inconsiderate to greet visitors. Please consider making your shop and your conduct less intimidating. read more

I was introduced to the store 4 years ago when my dad bought me a starter turntable and speakers from Tune. My dad raved about the shop and recommended I go in and talk to the owner. Over the next four years, Connon and his staff were very patient in answering my questions and providing advice as I made small upgrades to my system. Even though the store sells some very high-end systems, they also sell quality products for customers like me on a budget. I've now bought over six products from Tune and have never felt like I was up-sold; if I've paid more, it has sounded night-and-day better. They've also let me trade in past purchases to upgrade. If you're curious about what you've been missing in recorded music, Connon, Frank, and Bill can guide you through the sometimes overwhelming world of hi-fi. I'd recommend visiting on a Wednesday or a Thursday when they are less busy to get some individualized attention, or calling ahead so they can set up some gear for you to listen to. One of the few Hi-Fi stores in Seattle with a good array of higher-end headphones like Audeze, Mr. Speaker and Grado along with some similar level dac/amps. The staff seemed knowledgeable and was more than accommodating in helping me demo some products. I liked the fact they had almost every type of adapter to get connected into the headphone accessories, which can get convoluted at times especially if you have an iPhone 7 or something. This store definitely fills a regional gap between Echo Audio in Portland or Headphone Bar up in BC. It's a niche store though so not really for folks just walking in to find any pair of headphones or speakers for that matter. You will also pay a premium for buying local / brick and mortar versus online or at a larger hi-fi distributor. read more

Most Yelp reviews are about places that feed our souls by feeding our bodies but here's one about music which is at least as direct a source of nourishment. Many people are rightfully intimidated by "Hi-Fi" shops filled with expensive boxes, bewildering technical jargon and snobbery. Tune is SO not like that. Tune is all about music and it is the best place in Seattle to learn about and obtain what you need to reproduce music in a more meaningful way, a way that reaches into you. No matter what music you enjoy or how you listen to it now, I strongly encourage you to treat yourself to a visit to Tune. Tune: Hi-Fi SHOPPING for Humans. These guys are great. They aren't pushy, they won't try to upsell you, they're a little shy and maybe not extroverted sales-types, but they really don't want you to buy stuff you don't want or need. A pal sent me to Best Buy to check out the Sonos stuff, and the kids at BB are perfectly fine, and they don't know anything and they can't really help you because - they don't know anything. So I walk in here, and they could have set me up in ten minutes but I TALK A LOT. I'm an extroverted sales type! But here's the "Dirty Little Secret" - their prices are the same, or lower, as BB. In those ten minutes, however, they demoed the system with the stuff that I LISTEN TO (you don't have to bring that Poulenc or Ke$ha CD; they'll tune in NPR or RAI if you're so inclined!). They made themselves 100% available for support, questions, et cetera . . . They really do provide "Nordstrom" service without the service charge. There is every reason to shop here, and no reason at all NOT to shop here. read more

Tune is probably the coolest shop in downtown Seattle. Cool because it is entirely laid back. I was encouraged to sit down and enjoy my coffee while music played. And the best thing is that the owner will bring an array of gear to your house and help you get the best sound for your space. It was a little strange at first--Connon seemed to be fussing over small things---and once the music played in my living room it all made sense. Connon at Tune is super-knowledgeable and very low-key in his sales approach. Tune will bring gear that your are interested in over to your own space for an audition. I felt a bit sad that I couldn't keep everything that was brought over, but I did get a pretty amazing Naim Uniti 2 that is allowing me to rediscover my music collection. Tune only carries quality products, so the prices may be more than what you encounter at Best Buy, but the price reflects solid engineering, customer support and the knowledge that you are going to be getting something that brings your music to life. read more

Amazon and online purchases are great and convenient...but when you're a hobbyist, nothing beats being able to see a whole bunch of products in one place and being able to test them before buying. Especially because this is by no means a cheap hobby. So yeah, I think it's incredibly important to support the local stores that interest us. I went into Tune yesterday looking for a new DAC for my headphone set up. Connon, the store owner, was totally cool with me bringing my amp and headphones to test different DACs with. Here was my experience: I emailed Tune to ask if I could bring my gear, was replied to invitingly, walked in with my box of gear, was greeted warmly, was helped set up all my gear, then basically just geeked out with Connon taking turns listening to different tracks on the different setups! That's what it's all about...being able to have this place in Seattle to drop by and share a love of high-fidelity audio with others. Online forums are great, but this is the ultimate. Even if I'm not getting the best deal on a certain product, I'm getting the trial and a great time with a great store owner in my own neighborhood! That's worth it. The other customers were all really friendly as well, everyone was sort of tapped into this likeminded calm and good vibes of all being audio lovers. Connon though...he's a great guy, runs the store in a very cool and calm way, and made it the ideal local experience for me. If you care about exhilarating and revitalizing playback of your music, drop by and discover some gear that gets you closer to the musicians you love. There are even high-quality headphones for less than $100 (Grado) for those curious and just wanting to take a smaller first step. You can get closer to your music with audio brands that actually spend money on design and execution rather than mostly advertising *cough*Bose*cough*Beats, ahem, and at the same time, you can support a great local company. :) read more

Peter/Connon set me up with a little station to listen, explained some of the tech, starting from Grado headphones and up to high-end Audeze. Unfortunately while I was told I could return an item I wasn't satisfied with I have found that to not be true. I can't recommend buying expensive stereo equipment at a store where returns aren't possible, so I can't recommend Tune Hi-fi. I had arranged the return over email. My girlfriend went to take the item for return once to the store during advertised business hours to find it closed with a sticky note on the door, as others here have noted is often the case. She went again the next week only to be told that the return was not possible as had been claimed both at the time of purchase and later again over email. If I had to do it again I'd buy from a reputable online dealer, even if it means I had to pay more, to know I had a means of returning the product. I will say that I had a wonderful experience with demos, delivery, and buying here. That said, messing up any part of the overall experience, especially handling returns, is a deal breaker for me when it comes to brick & mortar. read more

This place doesn't know how to treat customers. I walked up to the store at 5:30. The owner of place was on his cell phone looking out the window. I went to go into the store, but the door was locked. The sign on the door clearly reads they are open until 6. The owner looked at me, made a quick gesture with his hand, and then turned around. I couldn't believe it. It was very rude. I guess they don't need anymore business. I won't go back and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone else. read more

Very nice owner. My system broke so I was in here for an hour listening to a test pressing for my record label. No pressure to jump to a decision on a new preamp, and when I finally decided on one the owner was totally cool with me hanging out for another 30 minutes to listen to the rest of my record. I just want to add my 2 cents. This store makes the costly mistake of not being open during their posted hours. My final experience with this store (meaning I'll never go back) bordered on surreal. After trying many times to go there, I finally succeeded at showing up when they were "open" and someone was there. However, the door was locked and the employee was outside washing the windows. I know it was an employee because I had seen him there before and an owner would never treat a potential customer the way I was treated. Even though he was there, he wouldn't let people inside! This seemed strange because he could easily have watched us (yes there were others also waiting to go in) through the windows he was washing! Cool audio gear. I walked in the store not really knowing exactly what I wanted. The salesman was extremely helpful. He sat down with me and tried four different pairs. I was there for a couple hours. This dude knows EVERYTHING there is to know about sound equipment. Ended up settling on a pair that I was really excited about. The one concern I had was that I could have found the speakers for cheaper on the internet. When I came home and looked them up, I was pleasantly surprised to find them listed for the same price on Amazon. Not only was the salesman extremely helpful, but honest and competitive with his prices. I purchased a comparatively low end pair of speakers (~$400.) He has speakers and amplifiers in there for tens of thousands of dollars. Really the nicest sh*t you could imagine. He was demoing a really nice set that sounded better than any concert I've ever been to. I'm definitely going back there once I save up a bit more money. read more

This is a small store with great equipment and really knowledgable people. I spoke to Christian and described my setup for which I needed speakers. He made some great suggestions and did'nt just push products to make a sale. He provided entry-level, mid-range and high-end options that would solve my problem. He then let me know test out the equipment with some high fidelity music of my choice so that I could make the right choice. I was buying my husband a birthday gift and have no understanding of anything technical. They walked me through everything with great suggestions. They texted me personally and said they had opened the shop and I should stop by. They had set up the record player I was considering buying for me to listen. My husband loved his gift! Edit: I was upset when I came to return the product and the store was closed, and right as I submitted my review the store owner showed up, and I meant to withdraw the review, but didn't do so in time. The products at the store are excellent, and they did spent quite a bit of time helping me out. The issue I experienced with the product had more to do with how Sonos failed to provide clear instructions, and in fact had an outdated manual which incorrectly portrayed the functionality of their product. This should not be held against the store that sold me the product, and actually provided correct information. As someone who had to take time out of their day to make it to the store I was quite upset that the store was not open promptly at 10, and I spent a good 10-15 minutes building up my frustration, but it was an overreaction on my part, because overall this place provides an excellent experience, and is the best place around to buy high-quality speakers. read more

i could call this place "eclectic", but something is just a bit "off" about it. i went there on a tuesday but they are not open. i called twice and left messages about speakers i was wanting to hear, but they never called me back. finally made it there during their odd hours. they were nice enough but the owner looked like he just got out of bed and i'm sure he never brushed his teeth that day (stand back!). maybe he sleeps in the shop? they do have a couch. they were helpful enough letting me hear the speakers i wanted but they have to move each one around and hook it up before you hear it. i just never felt i was dealing with organized professionals. plus, they are always doing the "up-sell" thing, beyond my budget :( maybe these guys are in a band and run the shop when they find time? would not waste my time there. read more
