My son has been going to Tangles and Knots since he was one. Every time has been a great experience. Mrs Lavonda knows how to make a child feel comfortable when getting there hair cut. They get to watch tv while they get the hair done. Then they get a sweet treat afterwards only after the parent says it's ok. If you have a smaller child they also have a cute fire truck that they can sit in and ring the bell too. I drive about 30 minutes to get to Garland and it's well worth it. 10/10 would recommend!

My son decided that he wanted to take a few inches of his off. We were fortunate to have Lady Tea as his stylist. She was extremely sweet and that's how we learned about the history of the shop. My husband also had an appointment for a wash, retwist, and style for his locs. There is no reason why it took almost 12 hours. There was only one girl in the shop certified to do it but when other stylists asked if she wanted help, she refused. 2 months later, here I am untwisting his hair for his next appointment (not with her I may add). I noticed that his two strand twists are all in different directions. Some of the stands are 3 strand twists and a lot of his "underneath" hair looks like it wasn't parted. I am being extremely generous with the 3 stars because I know they are up and coming and definitely have room for improvement. What I will say is that the entire time, they offered my son snacks and constantly checked on him while dad was sitting in the chair. The stylists create a safe space and make the kids (including my daughter) feel super comfortable while getting their hair done. I really appreciate their support for local black-owned businesses. Plus, I love how all the stylists greet every client with little friendly remarks. It might seem minor, but common courtesy really makes a difference. This all shows how well Lady Tea runs the shop. They're very professional, yet also down to earth and know how to have a good time. Anyway, back to Ms. Toya. She NEVER DISAPPOINTS. I'm in love with my braids. They look and feel amazing. In the past, at other salons, my braids would be so tight that I'd end up with a headache. First time the person did a great job (I have no idea what her name was) but she didn't talk at all. Which is fine. She wasn't personable but at the end of the day her job is to cut hair. She did a pretty great job. The second time I took him, the haircut was awful. They did a complete straight cut in the front and cut it too short on the right side. Unfortunately I didn't notice until after we left and got home. I brought him back in to fix it. They tried to fix it but ultimately it was just too many spots that were cut too short and it really just has to grow out before it can be fixed. I'm so frustrated. The stylist that tried to fix it basically insinuated that I asked for the wrong haircut. Um no. This is not on me. They made mistakes and tried to cover that up. Absolutely not, I will not be back. If you decide to go here, just understand that it is a complete hit or miss. Cheap haircuts but you will either get someone great, or your hair will get botched. Not really an in between. Unfortunately my sons hair got botched this time.
