I think Smokey is one of the few real heroes out there, who have made their way into pop culture. I also think that everyone has had a Smokey the bear t-shirt at some point in their life, maybe a hat? Coming here, I learned about the origin of fire towers and controlled fires. There is reference to firefighters and firefighting, so this may also pass as a fire fighter museum. But the real reason I came here was to admire and look at the memorabilia of Smokey the bear. I really enjoyed seeing all the toys and items collected by the museum. I am really happy to have made it here.

Lots of interesting items on the inside and the grounds and views from where the museum sits is worth the stop in. I will visit again when in the area or traveling with people who have not been before.

There is quite a bit of information about her life throughout. I especially loved the Native American jewelry exhibit. There are many exquisite (and probably expensive) pieces on display, most donated to the museum by Anne Stradling. Cost: $7 for adults. Be advised: I couldn't find a water foundation inside but water is for sale.

Stanton, who was killed in a skirmish with the Apaches, Fort Stanton was built in 1855 by soldiers of the 1st Dragoon and the 3rd and 8th Infantry Regiments to serve as a base of operations against the Mescalero Apache Indians. It served as a military fortification through 1896. Built of local stone, the sturdy 1855 buildings have lasted to this day. The Fort was named for Captain Henry W. Stanton, killed fighting the Apaches in 1855 near present day Mayhill. Troops marched out from the Fort to search for and fight the Mescalero Indians during numerous campaigns from 1855 until the 1880's. One of the best preserved forts in America from that Era. Then passed by the cemetery and up to Mt. Serra Blanca reaching 10,090 ft. Beautiful scenery. Worth the trip!

Wow...what a beautiful preserve Fort. Made me feel like I was back in time…read more Staff and volunteers were friendly, helpful. Nice short video to give you some insight into what happened during the days of the activity at the Fort. Some of the buildings are being renovated to help the structure and preserve what damage was done due to time but that doesn't make the area less amazing. If you are interested into history it is one I highly recommend seeing.

All you have to do is be curious to come here. They have everything on display chronologically, some interesting visual displays, and it's a self guided with lots of captivating stories and tangible materials as it relates to the existence of aliens and UFO's. I went through here in about an hour. It would take you much longer if you read everything on display. Lots of the stories on the timeline are fascinating. I thought it was well put together and should be thrilling for the alien enthusiasts. After checking out all the museum displays, there's a decent sized gift shop offering various types of merchandise. I got a cool fridge magnet as a souvenir for visiting this infamous museum. If you ever come to Roswell, whether you are into or believe in aliens, you have to visit the UFO Museum.
